Een wat latere Afrekening dit keer en dat komt door zowel de lijstmaker als de eindpubliceerder. Laatstgenoemde zit deze week met tentamenstruggles en kan dus wel klagen over hoe zwaar zijn level momenteel is maar vond het tegelijkertijd nog wel verantwoord om gister naar de Efteling te gaan dus ja, hallo hallo? Over klagen gesproken: Vorige week ontving ik zowaar een paar klachten over mijn Afrekening, en wel van twee users die vonden dat hun wekelijkse escapades onderbelicht bleven. Over wie het gaat verklap ik lekker niet, maar deze week organiseren ze de Timbaland-GH en over een tijdje ook nog een RTJ-GH. Omdat ik het eigenlijk wel hele lieve jongens vind beloof ik ze deze week wat meer tegemoet te komen. Dus als een soort Where’s Waldo zullen er hier en dar weer spectaculaire verhalen opduiken in de Afrekening. Want wat er toch altijd weer gebeurt DAT ZAL JE NOOOOOOIT KUNNEN GELOVEN JONGUUUHHH.

Ook spectaculair is de overmacht van de MuMehuisband deze week, die op lek één en drie te vinden is. De tweede single The National maakt een sprong van bijna een lichtjaar en speelt hiermee met één puntje de koppositie veilig, waarmee het Madrugada in de sandwich klemt. Berninger en zijn matties speelden afgelopen avond trouwens nog de pannen van het dak van een kathedraal concerthal in Parijs en ja, wie was er weer bij? Gretzie was trouwens niet de enige die bergen bewoog om zijn favo’s te zien en dan heb ik het nog niet eens over zijn eveneens aanwezige chicks: Fred gedroeg zich deze week blijkbaar als een volleerd groupie bij de band wiens laatste single inmiddels tien weken in de lijst staat en werd zowel door (familieleden van) de band als andere concertgangers herkend. Geniaal, zet Musicmeter toch maar een beetje op de kaart. Volgende stap naar populariteit: 20 cavia’s leren tapdansen om volgend jaar een Songfestivalact mee te maken. Over Songfestival gesproken: Sebi stijgt jippie! Niet veel maar het is iets. Grootste stijger is een nieuwkomer die van buiten de lijst hoppetee meteen de toptien binnenstormt en dat hebben we inmiddels toch al vijf weken niet meer gezien. Hiernaast hebben we nog drie binnenkomers alsmede een herintreder.

in de week dat bad guy ook de top 40 bestormt nu ook een plekje in de afrekening voor deze fenomenale single. het is – na wat uitroeptekentjes en een bitje – de opener van het wat wisselend ontvangen debuutalbum WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO van de 17-jarge billie eilish. het meisje dat de gemoederen nu al een hele tijd bezighoudt met haar opvallende personalia en haar plotse opkomst als superdupermegaster. als je billie niet kent doe je niet meer mee, als je haar nog niet behandeld hebt in een podcast trouwens ook niet. tweetrapsraket bad guy werd direct na de albumrelease de nieuwe single en was tegelijkertijd ook een van de beter ontvangen nummers hierop. iedere bad boy die bijkans gearresteerd wordt vanwege vermeende inbraak terwijl ie eigenlijk alleen maar de tas van een hysterische chick wil terugvinden kan zich identificeren met dit nummer. billie is speels met haar woorden die als een stroomversnelling het refrein ingezogen worden. tegelijkertijd blijft de atmosfeer tamelijk donker en ingetogen want ja, zo rolt billie nou eenmaal. haar clipje is dan weer kleurrijk en een beetje raar. de regisseur dave myers is overigens beschuldigd van plagiaat en rightfully so, want het lijkt bijna één op één een kopie van in toiletmagazine verschenen foto’s, zonder bronvermelding. volgende keer fix je die shizzle maar beter weer zelf, billie.

Big Thief - Cattails
Alle vier de binnenkomers zijn namen die we dit jaar al eerder in de Afrekening gezien hebben. In het geval van Big Thief vervangt de één de ander. Cattails is de tweede single van U.F.O.F. dat 3 mei uitkomt. Licht aangezette folkrock rond Adrienne Lenker die nu net SvhJ 2018 heeft moeten wieberen. Adrianne heeft een opvallend beetje zeurderig maar bovenal erg lieflijk stemgeluid (ik zou het eigenlijk poeslief willen noemen maar zo’n grapje verdient eigenlijk een gele kaart en daar he ik geen zin in) die goed past bij de lichte instrumentatie met hier en daar een onheilspellende ondertoon. Lekker spannend en tegelijkertijd weer geschikt om op te picknicken ofzo. Miauw.

Vampire Weekend - This Life
Vampire Weekend mag mister Batmanglij dan kwijt zijn, er zijn nog genoeg superhelden over om in dezelfde oude vertrouwde stijl verder te gaan. This Life is instant herkenbaar als VW en brengt de zomer weer in huis. Handjeklapritmes met Afrikaanse touch, sweeeet zang en gewoon weer het ultieme feelgoodgeluid. Deze grijpt weer iets meer terug naar het debuut al lijkt het wel net iets gepolijster en volwassener. Het nummer werd tegelijk uitgebracht met Unbearably White waarmee er nu zes nummers bekend zijn. Da’s een derde van het (ook) 3 mei te verschijnen vierde album Father Of The Bride. Lekker voor het festivalseizoen begint dus. Over eenderdes gesproken: da’s ook het aandeel van Haim dat gastvocalen verzorgt op deze track.

Bear's Den - Laurel Wreath
Arjan heeft het er al vaker over gehad: veel artiesten die Lauren/Lauran/Laurel heten dus het is ook niet verwonderlijk als we nu ook vergelijkbare songtitels gaan krijgen. Nu is een laurel wreath geen persoon maar een lauwerenkrans. Het Londense Bear’s Den met Glaswegian (en da’s te horen zo duidelijk als een Vlaamse die hallokes zegt) frontman brengt binnenkort een nieuw album uit dus het zou kunnen dat je m over anderhalve week hoort. Voor het derde vooruitgestuurde nummer op de plaat is de banjo weer van stal gehaald, al speelt ie wel maar een klein rolletje en blijft de insteek van het nummer nog altijd tamelijk bombastische folk met een klein geluidsmuurtje die bijzonder makkelijk en als een warm bad in het gehoor ligt. Sommigen zullen het nummer trouwens uitspreken als Yanny Wreath, maar die mensen zijn gewoon niet goed bij hun kanis.

Dat was hem weer voor deze week, ik ga weer even leren. Vergeet trouwens niet de Spotifylijst te volgen die sinds dit jaar in handen is van Fred. En #stemtimbagh

Stormachtige 20 - week 16

De eerste single van Tame Impala viel een beetje tegen, maar Borderline klinkt als een klok, alhoewel het allemaal niet heel vernieuwend is. Bad Guy van Billie Eilish is ook weer een klasse single. Toch mooi dat deze de top 40 heeft bereikt. De Sloveense inzending voor het Eurovisie Songfestival blijft groeien en staat inmiddels in de top 10.

CHAMPS is de top 3 van de eindejaarslijst ingerold met Douglas Firs. Dit is bijzonder, want Douglas Firs is nog nooit hoger gekomen dan de 7e plek in de weeklijst. Een kwestie van veel punten bij elkaar sprokkelen in veel weken tijd. Helemaal bovenaan staat momenteel Sharon Van Etten met Seventeen: 113 punten met als hoogste positie een 2e plek. Toch is 113 punten niet genoeg voor een top 10 in de uiteindelijke eindejaarslijst (historisch gezien), ondanks dat we al bijna op 1/3e zijn. Benieuwd waar dat heengaat.

En dan voor het eerst weer eens een single van King Gizard waar ik mij helemaal in kan vinden. En dan mag je ook gelijk de eerste plek krijgen, daar doe ik niet moeilijk over.

Maar Rammstein (is dit nu echt zo sterk afwijkend, ik dacht dat er hele andere muziek werd gespeeld) maar ook zeker de andere nieuwe nummers zijn eveneens prachtig.
Fucked up een mooi, net als Rammstein (bijna) instrumentale single. Maar tegelijkertijd onweerstaanbaar.

Lekkere psychedelische pop met disco-invloeden en een Turkse flavor uit het lijstje van Dance Lover. De naam Altın Gün heb ik wel vaker voorbij zien komen, maar de muziek heb ik nooit nader beluisterd, en die blijkt me nogal vrolijk te stemmen.

38. Chase & Status ft. Irah - Program
Aan dit nummer te horen, en aan de naam van hun aankomend project (RTRN II JNGL) te zien, gaat Chase & Status eindelijk weer terug naar hun roots in de drum & bass. Nadat hun recente muziek meer in de dubstep / drumstep / breakbeat hoek zat, is dit weer gewoon heerlijke beukdnb, vol drumsalvo's en rollende bassen.

Sundara Karma. Het is geen Rock, het is geen Pop het is geen Dans. Wel expressieve zang hoog & laag; Kopstem versus Bas. Dynamische Artrock of Glamrock met Inspiratie van Bowie.
Blijkt dat er ook een puik album is, met nog veel meer moois.



The Pale White uit NewCastle ga ik morgen zien in Pandora. Daarom extra aandacht voor deze strakke rocksong die al 7 weken in mijn Top20 rondwandelt en daar vermoedelijk na concert nog wel even blijft.



JAWS is driemanschap uit Birmingham en ondanks dat JAWS weinig onderscheidends heeft in vergelijk met al die bands uit London is dit n leuk PopRock nummertje voor in de lentezon, ondanks dat er pas na 30 seconden een eerste nood klinkt.



Absurd is Nieuwe single van Declan Welsh (uit Glascow).

Week 16

De warme temperaturen zorgen ervoor dat de zomerse tracks hard stijgen deze week. Daarnaast lost het prachtige Bloodless van Andrew Bird de veulens af als de nieuwe nummer 1. Verder veel nieuwe binnenkomers:

- Sonic Winds van Smallpeople is een uitstekende deep house plaat overgoten met een licht psychedelisch sausje. De diepe kicks in combinatie met de dromerige melodieën en sfeer zorgen voor een euforische trip. Volume vol openschroeven is het advies.
- De tweede single van Tame Impala, Borderline, is ook weer fijn en hopt over Patience heen. Kevin Parker schuift nog meer richting pop op, George Michael is niet ver weg op deze plaat. Vind ik helemaal niet erg, wat een oorwurm zeg!
- Time Out Of Joint van The Juan Maclean heb ik uit de lijst van herman gepikt. Lekker zomerse deep house die de pan uit swingt. Probeer die melodie maar eens uit je kop te krijgen.
- Nakhane heeft kennelijk een deluxe versie uitgebracht van het mooie album You Will Not Die. Daarop is een samenwerking met Anohni te vinden en dan is mijn aandacht snel getrokken. New Brighton ligt in het verlengde van de reguliere plaat en is retecatchy.
- Ik blijf genieten van Good For Nuthin’ van The Good People en daarom gooi ik er deze week maar een tweede nummer van die plaat bij, Off The Block. Boom bap hiphop die keihard door je speakers knalt.
- Broken Social Scene komt met de Arcade Fire-achtige track Can't Find My Heart. Als je van bombastische indie rock houdt, kan ik je deze track zeer goed aanbevelen.

week 16 van 2019 met 6 binnenkomers en Angie nog op 1 al komen er 2 nederlandse producties aandringen op 2 en 5.
Hoogste binnenkomer staat op 20, Grizzly Coast is een singer/songwriter uit Canada die al een voornamelijk akoestischalbum heeft gemaakt maar het op haar laatste 2 single met band doet. Dit is het eerst nummer dat ik van haar ken en dat bevalt meteen prima.
Abbie Ozard uit Manchester stond rond de jaarwisseling al in mijn lijst met een east 17 cover, nu heeft ze een nieuw eigen nummer. Singer/songwriter met een popgeluid.
Charly Bliss is een band die ik al een poos ken maar net zo vaak weinig aan vind als goed vind. De heliumstem van de zangeres doet denken aan Mars Argo of Stefany June, muzikaal is meer pop/rock. Op dit nieuwe nummer bevalt de combinatie me voorlopig wel.
Svedaliza is een Nederlandse singer/songwriter met Iraanse roots; op haar nieuwe single klinkt ze een beetje als Portishead qua dramatiek en zeker ook begeleidende muziek.
Lily Denning heeft een prima popplaatje gemaakt, weinig meer, zeker niks minder.
Saltwater Sun scoorde met hun vorige top 3 bij mij (staat zelfs nu nog in de top 10); het titelnummer van hun nieuwe EP lijkt dat niet te gaan lukken al is het ook best een ok nummer.

Binnen De Zestien 20/04/2019

Goh, wat plaatste die Mausie weer even een paar heerlijke nummers. Eén daarvan is meteen nieuw binnengekomen in mijn eigen lijst: Juan MacLean doet de toch al hoge temperatuur nog enkele graadjes oplopen. Smallpeople neemt plaats op de reservebank.
Ontdekking van de week is een nummer van Drab Majesty; de band staat op de (veel te) lange lijst van artiesten waar ik echt eens wat meer van moet luisteren, en Ellipsis bewijst dat dit alleen maar een goed idee kan zijn. Ook de laatste Four Tet alsmede de prima nieuwe van Silversun Pickups hebben de zestien gehaald.
In mijn lijst is het een komen en vaak snel weer gaan van nummers: veel platen houden het maar één of twee edities vol. Niet geheel en al verrassend bij een relatief korte lijst, overigens. La Dispute lijkt zich van deze "wet" overigens niets aan te trekken; de plaat stond al zes weken bovenaan, staat nog altijd bij de beste vijf en daarmee hoger dan de nummer-1 ná Fulton Street van Alex Lahey, die een vrije val maakte van de derde naar de achtste plaats.
Royksopps I Wanna Know moest het veld ruimen, maar daar staat tegenover dat In The End het podium heeft bereikt.
