202 stoomt maar door, deze week 9 binnenkomers en nog moest ik enkele teleurstellen... geen ruimte meer. Blijft dat zo het hele jaar?
In elk geval is Grumes nu wel van 1 af, niet voor de tweenoise van Las Kellies maar het nederlandse electroduo Secret Love Parade grijpt de macht, geholpen door het feit dat ik ze vorig weekend weer eens live zag. Als voorprogramma weliswaar maar dat maakt niet uit... hoofdprogramma heb ik ook maar laten schieten.
Hoogste binnenkomer is voor girl in red, nog steeds zonder hoofdletters. Zij doet net als Mitski mee op de soundtrack van The Turning en ondanks dat spotify er geen eigen entry van heeft gemaakt is er wel een clip van, dan vind ik het acceptabel dat ze in de lijst mag. Verder is het gewoon een prima en echt girl in red nummer natuurlijk.
Las Kellies hebben dan met hun vorige de nummer 1 alleen virtueel gehaald, de nieuwe van het Argentijnse tweenoiseduo is alweer onderweg en klinkt vergelijkbaar aan de vorige. Iets minder poppy misschien toch.
Lewsberg komt volgende maand, ja het is februari dus dat klopt, met hun tweede album. Daarvan is nu de 2e single verschenen en die klinkt ook al erg bekend van de live optredens. Mooie mix van Velvet Underground met een vleugje Talking Heads, heerlijk.
Brooke Bentham scoorde met haar vorige dik top 10 bij mij en de opvolger klinkt ook weer lekker, prima singer-songwriter met gitaarband-geluid.
Pearl Jam, ik heb zoveel wisselende dingen gehoord, valt mee, valt tegen,nou, ik vind eigenlijk geen van beide. Het is gewoon typisch Pearl Jam. Geen opvallend hard nummer, geen ballad, maar zoals ze er zoveel hebben die ertussen in zitten.
Hanya scoorde na een moeizaam begin uiteindelijk toch nog goed met haar vorige, nu de opvolger klinkt helemaal in het verlengde en dus ook prima en zal nog even mogen groeien.
Beach Bunny heb ik uit de BKS lijst en na het commentaar van stardust_be dat het op The Beths leek was ik extra benieuwd. Ik ben het helemaal eens, wie The Beths goed vind zou dit toch ook goed moeten vinden. Gaat vast leuk worden op BKS...
Eliza Shaddad kwam met haar vorige tegelijk binnen met de vorige van Hanya. Ze scoorde wat hoger dan Hanya, de nieuwe komt voorlopig even wat lager binnen. Wat meer ingetogen dan de vorige.
Ellis dan nog als laatste, waar heb ik die vandaan gehaald, oh ook van stardust_be blijkbaar. In elk geval is het een Canadese singerw-songwriter.
En toen zat de lijst echt vol.

Stormachtige 20 - week 5

Kate Tempest heeft een alternatieve versie van Holy Elixer gemaakt en die komt hard binnen. Heerlijke synths en beats, precies zoals ik Kate graag hoor. Austra is een fijne dance-pop. De Canadese Katie Stelmanis zingt opvallend hoog en maakt daarmee zeker indruk. Livin van Jetta is 90's rave van de bovenste plank. Zeker een luistertip!

Ja hoor, ook bij mij pakt Billie de koppositie. Ik denk: ik help d’r even met dat record x
Nee ineens is het kwartje volledig gevallen en blijf ik hem maar draaien. Ook Harry Styles houdt beter stand dan verwacht. Blijkbaar heb ik door bepaalde gebeurtenissen zomaar een connectie gekregen met Harry Styles, je bedenkt het niet. Hij scoort nu zelfs een tweede hit, die me zin geeft in de zomer.

Ik voel me haast mainstream nu, dus compenseren we het maar met een wat spannender liedje van de nog veel te onbekende BEA1991, met wat lekker stevige trap van PlayThatBoiZay (Denzel komt hard als altijd), nog wat dance van Fort Romeau, wat meer folky met Julia Jacklin en hey Låpsley zit dan eigenlijk weer in de hoek van Billie Eilish met een subtiele elektronische productie.

Week 5
- De nummer 1 dezelfde als vorige week, maar Declan McKenna komt nieuw binnen op 2. Heerlijk nummer weer van de jonge artiest. Vaak afgespeeld dit nummer en ik vind het instrumentaal ook weer goed in elkaar zitten, vooral op het eind.
- De tweede binnenkomer is een nieuw nummer van Blossoms. Hoewel het album tot nu toe wat tegenvalt zijn de singles erg goed. If You Think This Is Real Life heeft weer zo'n heerlijk synthdeuntje en dat refrein gaat niet meer uit mijn kop.

Ik kwak er nog wat vrouwen bij, ze pasten niet meer in mijn top 15 dus vandaar een kleine uitbreiding; van een fluisterende Isobel en een poppy Alex naar een somber gestemde Brooke. Stuk voor stuk prachtige plaatjes. Wye Oak is een oudje maar ben nog steeds bezig met wat achterstallig onderhoud. Shopping is geweldig puntig en catchy en The Men is een fijn jaren '80 retro rockplaatje.

Week 5:
- Hoogste nieuwkomer is de samenwerking tussen Ry X en Ólafur Arnalds. Wat oorspronkelijk begon als een remix van een Ólafur nummer mondde uit in een volwaardige nieuwe song dat klinkt zoals je zou kunnen verwachten van deze twee topartiesten
- Voor dreampop is er altijd plaats in mijn lijst en de fijne single van Ciel (met Nederlandse zangeres) ging ik halen uit de lijst van ranja
- De vorige single van Caribou deed mij niet zo veel maar met Never Come Back is het weer helemaal raak, ik vind het zijn meest geslaagde dancenummer sinds Can't Do Without You
- Hazel English komt met Shaking de top 10 binnen en haar nieuwe dromerige single Off My Mind kan mij ook helemaal bekoren, check ook de nostalgische sixties video. In april komt haar debuutalbum Wake Up! uit. Tenslotte nog nieuwe nummers van TORRES, Wye Oak en de IJslandse JFDR.

- Caribou: net als je denkt dat Dan Snaith het kwijt is, na een paar mindere singles, komt hij ijzersterk terug. Zoals al werd gememoreerd zijn beste werk sinds Can't Do Without You
- U.S. Girls is al sinds Windows Shade een vaste waarde in mijn lijst en ook nu stelt Meghan Remy niet teleur. Fijne psychedelische Bowie-esque pop met invloeden van soul, gospel en jazz.
- Die Düsseldorf Düsterboys komen niet uit Düsseldorf en klinken ook niet erg düster, maar maken wel humoristische meeslepende indierock. Nooit iemand zo dramatisch horen zingen over koffie zetten en een spijker uit de muur halen.
- Ten Fé scoorde drie jaar terug bij mij een hit met Single No Return, maar de singles daarna deden me veel minder en zo verloor ik ze al snel weer uit het hoog. Maar Candidate is toch wel een return to form. Leuke ontdekking via de gezamenlijke weeklijst.
- Over Harrison BPB schreef Mausie recent: "Warme, melodieuze deep house en rijk met details. Wellicht ook wat voor herman en Dim." en dat was spot-on. Bij eerste beluistering was het meteen raak, precies wat voor mij.
- De Japanse Rina Sawayama scoort met een fijne crossover tussen electro, pop en r&b. Voor de liefhebbers van Robyn, Jessie Ware, Roisin Murphy, etc.
- Gage's E Anthem is er een voor de danceliefhebbers. Hoewel het duidelijk een Engelse sound heeft, is Detroit ook niet helemaal uit zicht.

Simon 's Top 20, week 5 [02/02/2020]

Mijn favoriete ruimtereizigster is terug met een heerlijke nieuwe single. I Think You're Great is minder zwaarmoedig dan I Like to Dance en gaat over vriendschap en dat je dit niet als iets vanzelfsprekends moet zien.




Best Coast is ook weer terug in de lijst na één week afwezigheid. De opvolger van For the First Time is steviger en doet mij erg aan I Love Rock 'n Roll denken van Joan Jett. Ook de nieuwe single van Sea Girls komt binnen. Ready for More is weer een heerlijke pop/rock nummer van deze band.

Deze week zijn er weer vele lijstjes ingezonden, 40 stuks in totaal (waarvan 2 halve). Billie Eilish gaat nog steeds fier aan kop, maar wordt nu voor het eerst serieus bedreigd. Ze deelt nu het record voor langst aantal weken aan kop met Harmony Hall van Vampire Weekend en I Don’t Know How To Speak van Manchester Orchestra (9 weken!). Gaat ze volgende week het record verbreken?

Inhaler - We Have To Move On
Inhaler heeft een patent op hits in de MuMeAfrekening. Volgens mij is dit al de 3e single op rij die de gezamenlijke haalt. Bij gebrek aan goed materiaal bij pa Bono, hebben we gelukkig zoonlief Elijah Hewson die de honneurs waarneemt. Inmiddels hebben ze een herkenbare sound te pakken en We Have To Move On ligt dan ook in het verlengde van zijn voorgangers. Toegankelijke poprock die met passie en energie gebracht wordt.

Mac Miller - Good News
Voor het eerst dat ik een volledig Mac Miller nummer beluister. Ik verwachtte iets totaal anders. Dit klinkt meer als Eels dan hiphop. En dat vind ik helemaal niet verkeerd, lekker laidback nummer voor als je onderuit gezakt op de bank hangt. Of straks voor op de veranda met een pilsje in de hand, genietend van de zon. Waar blijft die lente?!?

And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead - Into The Godless Void
Zo, een flinke dosis gitaren! Maar geen metal, het genre wat ik om een of andere reden met deze band associeerde. RateYourMusic geeft zelfs Indie Rock als main tag voor hun nieuwe album. Lekker voortstuwende song in ieder geval, lijkt mij ideaal materiaal voor in de auto.

Ten Fé - Heaven Sent Me
Ik plagieer even Titmeister, want die had dit nummer al eerder gerecenseerd:
Ten Fé is een band, die al een aantal jaar in de periferie van mijn muzikale bewustzijn opereert. Heaven Sent Me is wel het eerste nummer dat ik echt bewust van ze beluister. Ik hoor een band, die ondanks hun herkomst, vrij Amerikaans klinkt, mede door de gladde productie. Het nummer heeft verder wel een fijne drive. Verder kan je stellen dat de mannen van Ten Fé harde werkers zijn; Heaven Sent Me is alweer hun derde single na het album Future Perfect, Present Tense - dat nog geen jaar geleden uitkwam!

Four Tet - Baby
Four Tet bereikt eigenlijk standaard de gezamenlijke met zijn singles. Baby is daar dus geen uitzondering op. Herkenbare beat en percussie die erg doen denken aan zijn dampende en stomende remix van Nelly Furtado van vorig jaar. Dit nummer is echter wat zwoeler en warmer. Hopelijk een voorbode voor de plaat die in maart uitkomt.

Alice Boman - Don't Forget About Me
Dit fraaie indiepop nummer heeft ook aardig wat punten van ondergetekende gekregen en ik verwacht nog wel een flinke stijging. Deze track heeft zo ongelooflijk veel sfeer en de zang glijdt je oorschelp binnen. Jessica Pratt bracht ons vorig jaar terug naar de 60s/70s, Alice Boman maakt de 2020 variant van deze folky chamber pop. Laat je betoveren door haar magische dream pop!

Other Lives - Lost Day
Toevallig laatst hun album Tamer Animals in mijn gigantische to listen lijst gezet, een cultplaat binnen MusicMeter. Maar dit is dus voor het eerst dat ik materiaal van Other Lives hoor. Zeker goede reclame om aan die plaat te beginnen, want Lost Day klinkt erg goed. Stemmige folk/indie rock, met mooie strijkers. De nieuwe plaat For Their Love verschijnt op 24 april.

Froukje - Groter Dan Ik
Ik heb werkelijk waar geen idee wat ik hierover moet zeggen. Nog nooit van Froukje gehoord en de muziek is echt niet mijn ding. Nederlandstalige nummers staan sowieso bij voorbaat al 1-0 achter bij mij, dus dan moet je sterk voor de dag komen om mijn interesse te wekken. Ik hoor een soort bubbling beat en er wordt gezongen. Verder kom ik niet helaas.

Froukje, soort Drank & Drugs met serieuze boodschap. Grappig dat het in de gezamenlijke lijst terecht is gekomen
