De nummers die jaarlijks de hoogste posities scoren in de jaarlijst van dit topic stromen daarna rechtstreeks door naar De Witte Trui van het jaar erop, derhalve zijn er hier wellicht nog mensen die geïnteresseerd zijn om mee te doen aan de finale van 2021.

Beste allemaal,

Na bijna 11 maanden stemmen op 311 ladders zijn we eindelijk toegekomen aan de finale van De Witte Trui, editie 2021!

Van de 720 platen die de strijd aangingen zijn er nog 24 over. Van deze 24 platen zal er eentje over drie weken 'de witte trui aantrekken' en zich het beste nummer van de afgelopen 10 jaar mogen noemen.

Natuurlijk mag jij gaan bepalen welke plaat dat wordt. Of je nou het hele jaar heb meegestemd of pas net voor het eerst van De Witte Trui heb gehoord maakt niet uit, we willen natuurlijk graag zoveel mogelijk lijstjes hebben.

Je lijstje inleveren gaat als volgt: beluister alle 24 onderstaande finalisten en selecteer wat voor jou de beste 12 zijn. Deze 12 platen zet je vervolgens op volgorde waarbij de nummer 1 jouw favoriete plaat is. Het lijstje van 12 platen stuur je vervolgens per pm bericht naar ondergetekende en wanneer ik het lijstje heb verwerkt geef ik je hier een bevestiging van. (Krijg je de bevestiging niet binnen enkele dagen, schroom dan niet om nogmaals een berichtje te sturen.)

Ik zou het op prijs stellen wanneer je rekening houdt met enkele aandachtspunten bij het inleveren van je lijstje:

1. rangschik de platen in je lijstje met nummers van 1 t/m 12.
2. Zet jouw nummer 1 (dus je favoriete plaat die de meeste punten moet krijgen) bovenaan.
3. Zet alle platen onder elkaar zonder witregels er tussen.
4. Als je de titels en uitvoerenden niet kopieert uit deze post zorg dan dat je ze A) wel op dezelfde wijze hebt gespeld en B) een spatie-streepje-spatie tussen de titel en uitvoerende hebt staan waarbij de uitvoerende er voor komt en de titel erna.

Gaat bovenstaande mis dan is dat niet erg. Gaat het echter goed dan kan ik je lijstje binnen 10 seconden verwerken en is bovendien de kans op fouten van mijn kant nihil.

De puntentelling van de lijstjes gaat als volgt: alle nummers 1 krijgen 14 punten, alle nummers 2, 12 punten en alle nummers 3, 10 punten. Vervolgens tellen we naar beneden, de nummers 4 krijgen 9 punten, nummers 3, 8, enz. tot aan de nummers 12 die 1 punt krijgen.

Het bekendmaken van de eindstand zal ik doen in het finale weekend op 11 & 12 december en duurt op de zondag de gehele dag. Net als voorgaande jaren zal ik in Eurovision Song Contest stijl alle lijstjes een voor een presenteren met een tussenpauze van telkens 10 minuten op de zondag en bij overwegende respons, zoals in 2018, 2019 en 2020, presenteer ik het eerste handjevol lijstjes al op de zaterdag. Het laatste lijstje maak ik op zondag om 21:30 bekend en het tijdstip van het eerste lijstje wordt dus bepaald door het aantal inzendingen. In de praktijk zie dat er als volgt uit:

De deadline voor het insturen van je lijstje is daarom op vrijdag 10 december om 23:59 's avonds.

Let's Eat Grandma ken ik natuurlijk door de diverse spellen hier op MuMe, maar ik had eigenlijk niet verwacht ze in mijn wekelijkse hitlijst aan te treffen. Muzikaal doet het me namelijk niet zo bijster veel, maar op Two Ribbons laten ze horen over fantastische stemmen te beschikken. Na een paar weekjes in de tiplijst, komen ze nu nieuw binnen.




Eerlijk gezegd viel de oogst ook wel enigszins tegen afgelopen week. Van de vier binnenkomers stonden er drie al in de tiplijst van vorige week. Het Deense Brimheim komt net als LEG en Bear's Den van die tiplijst. De enige 'nieuwe' single die binnenkomt is Old Flame van de Britse Sody, die al een aantal jaar muzikaal aan de weg timmert, maar bij mij nog niet bekend was. En dan is dit een fijne eerste kennismaking.

nieuw:
Rustig weekje qua nieuwe binnenkomers, lig ook hopeloos achter met luisteren. Zal in december wel bijtrekken, alhoewel al die eindejaarslijsten ook leuk zijn natuurlijk...

Duran Duran had ik niet direct verwacht als nieuwe binnenkomer. Ze zijn dan wel verantwoordelijk voor een van mijn eerste muzikale herinneringen (The Reflex -evenals La Isla Bonita- in de playbackshow op de basisschool), na de jaren '90 hebben ze me toch nooit meer echt beet gehad met nieuwe muziek, al waren de kritieken soms best positief. Ook de recente singles vond ik niet veel, al zou die met CHAI mijn lijst wel hebben gehaald als ik een top 50 had. Deze met Tove Lo grijpt me dan wel weer behoorlijk. Het lijkt eigenlijk erg op de recente output van New Order, maar dan met andere vocalisten... heerlijk sluimerende synths ook, die in de break dan eindelijk de boventoon krijgen. Ik zie nu dat is geproduceerd door mijn vroegere held Erol Alkan, door wie ik 15 jaar geleden een aardige Duran Duran-revival beleefde en zelfs Rio in mijn top 10 had.

Black Rhythm Happening is origineel een spiritueel jazznummer uit de late jaren '60, van Eddie Gale. In deze cover van drummer Makaya McCraven wordt het omgebouwd naar een opzwepende mix tussen acid jazz en instrumentale hiphop. De extatische chant-achtige vocalen van het origineel zijn gebleven, toegevoegd is een gruwelijk lekkere baslijn.

Geen idee via welke playlist PVA's Exhaust / Surroundings mijn tips is binnengewaaid, maar ik zie nu dat deze al uit november 2020 stamt. Wel een dijk van een nummer, geweldige post-punk/dance-crossover. Hun beste sinds Divine Intervention.

Ibibio Sound Machine maakt al een paar jaar een soort mix tussen elektro en afro-funk. Deze is wat minder opzwepend dan eerder werk, maar nog altijd erg goed.

Gang of Youths - the man himself
Na the angel of 8th ave. komt de band Gang Of Youth met de explosieve nieuwe single ‘the man himself’: geschreven na het verlies van Dave Le’aupepe’s vader. Een hoopvol nummer van deze Australische rockers.

Marillion - Be Hard on Yourself
De single Be Hard On Yourself is uitgebracht in drie delen, namelijk Tear in the Big Picture, Lust for Luxury en You Can Learn. Het is het eerste nieuwe nummer van de band in vijf jaar tijd. Fans moeten nog even geduld hebben, want in 2022 komt het nieuwe album An Hour Before It’s Dark uit.

alt-J - Get Better
Alt-J doet het wat rustiger aan op tweede single U&ME. Het nummer bestaat eigenlijk uit twee liedjes: het eerste liedje zong Joe Newman voor zijn partner in 2018 (die een langere periode ziek was) en het tweede liedje gaat over iemand die een sterfgeval verwerkt. Ik hoor liever wat meer uptempo werk van deze band, maar geen kwaad woord over Get Better, gewoon heel mooi.

Froukje - Een Teken
De lijst kleurt rood wit blauw met drie Nederlandse entries. Om te beginnen: Froukje. Een sfeervol gevoelig nummer met een prachtige tekst. Ongelofelijk dat Froukje op dit moment songwriting studeert, maar op dat gebied nu al schrijft alsof ze al jaren meedraait in the scene. Talentje.

Pip Blom - I Know I’m Not Easy To Like
De liefde voor Pip Blom is een beetje bekoeld, maar I Know I’m Not Easy To Like is een van de beste nummers op het nieuwste album. Agressief en energiek. Terecht dat de videoclip een registratie van een live-optreden is, want dit nummer komt live het beste uit de verf.

Beach Bunny - Oxygen
Zoete indie-poprock uit Chicago met een rauw randje. Heerlijk gitaargeluid met de breekbare stem van Lili Trifilio. Op 17 februari 2022 treedt Beach Bunny op in Paradiso en tickets zijn nog steeds verkrijgbaar.

In 2019 stopte Lisa Brammer met de band Dakota. Lana, Jasmine en Annemarie zochten een nieuwe zangeres en kwamen uit bij Julia Korthouwer. Samen richtten ze Loupe op. Een nieuwe Nederlandstalige band om trots op te zijn. Inmiddels is dit de tweede single die de wekelijkse MuMeAfrekening bereikt. Net als Leave Me There is er sprake van een heerlijke uitbarsting op het eind.

Soms klinken kerstnummers als een volgend schilderij van Alaska onder supervisie van Bob Ross. Maar het wil ook nog wel eens iets aan afstand nemen van de enigszins serene sfeer die altijd moet worden opgeroepen rond de feestdagen. Nu we toch weer allemaal zo'n beetje thuis moeten blijven, is een Kerstsingle van The Wonder Years een prima alternatief. Of van de Waterboys, hoewel de Waterboys zich juiste verre van de feestdagen houden.

Eels & White Lies hebben sterke singles in de aanbieding maar vertegenwoordigen bekende namen. Tot recent had ik werkelijk nog nooit gehoord van Greer, Fire Horse en de geweldige Nederlandse band Orange Skyline. En dan vind je ook nog eens nauwelijks iets aan muziek terug van deze bands.

Maar fraai zijn de debuten wel.

Een ongelooflijk snelle stijger op 1 voor Tom MacDonald, hij kreeg de meeste stemmen met zijn spiegelende teksten.


Elbow staat nu vier weken op de tweede plaats, elke week dus net niet de nummer 1.
Met superstip naar 3 gestegen is Bastarda + João de Sousa, een Portugese-Poolse band die een intieme en hallucinerende vorm van fado brengt.

Elf weken al in de Eigenwijze 30 en daarmee staat London Grammar als langst genoteerd.

Ik heb de afgelopen week 231 nieuwe tracks beluisterd (ik heb ze voor de verandering maar eens geturfd). Daarvan heb ik er 42 bewaard in de shortlist. Vijftien daarvan komen binnen in de top 50, een heel beschaafd aantal dus. Samen met drie herintreders zijn er achttien entry's. Bovenin verandert er echter niets; al zeven weken lang voort Gang of youths mijn lijst aan; de top 5 is gelijk, maar wel in gewijzigde volgorde.

Even in vogelvlucht langs de binnenkomers:
Lucifer is in dit geval niet de groep van Margriet Eshuijs, maar een gelijknamige metalband uit Zweden. Op 'Gone with the wind is my love' is er van die metal echter niets meer te horen; samen met een gastzangeres coveren ze -bijna noot voor noot- een obscure Northern soul-single uit 1967 van Rita & the Tiaras.
'Harridan' van Porcupine Tree is al eventjes bekend in deze contreien. Ik had de progrock-kraker al eerder in m'n lijst staan, was 'm alweer uit het oog verloren maar pikte hem afgelopen week weer op. Absoluut geen progrock-fan, maar deze springt daar positief bovenuit.
Aoife O'Donovan maakt heerlijk-zweverige Americana-liedjes. Ik volg haar al een aantal jaren en deze groeiplaat 'Phoenix' gaat langzamerhand ook tot haar classics behoren.
LP zet spannende violen in op 'Cling to me'; het lijkt verdorie wel alsof ze richting de symfometal gaat.
Zangeres Kerryn Fields zit met 'St Kilda pier' net als Aoife O'Donovan in de folk/Americana-hoek. Geen genre waar de gemiddelde MuMe-deelnemer voor warm loopt, maar meer voor de connaisseur, zeg maar...
Rockford maakt z'n groepsnaam waar; op 'The noise in your system' is het lekker grungen, alsof het 1993 is.
Zowel Jamestown Revival als Billy Strings zit in de country/bluegrass-hoek. 'Young man', van het eerstgenoemde duo, is een lekkere, melancholieke track; daar zorgt de fiddle wel voor. Billly Strings fiddlet er op 'Know it all') ook een eind op los en gooit er bovendien nog eens een fanatieke banjo in.
Komen we uit bij twee opvallende covers van twee overbekende nummers. 'Apache' was eenenzestig jaar geleden al een hit voor the Shadows, maar is nu via the Heritage Orchestra terug in een uitstekend passend Northern soul-jasje. 'Let's stay together' is een jaren '70-soulslijper van Al Green (voor de jongere lezers: is bekend als de comeback-hit van Tina Turner (al zullen de jongere lezers niet eens door hebben dat Tina Turner destijds een comeback maakte)). De Night Owls maken er een even onverwachte als lekkere ska-versie van.
Yola was al een tijdje bekend; kwam bij mij weer langs en ik concludeerde dat ik 'Stand for myself' niet de waardering had gegeven die het verdiende; terug binnen dus.
Folk/Americana maar weer met een duetje tussen singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile en indiepopkwartet Lucius. Resultaat: het erg fijne 'You and me on the rock'.
Frank Turner geeft op 'Miranda' een originele draai aan de gender-discussie. Gouden openingszin: 'My father is called Miranda these days'...
We zakken af naar de onderste regionen van de top 50 met twee bekende MuMe-namen. Loupe (voorheen: Dakota) is een erg prettige Nederlandse damesgitaargroep. Het breekbare gitaargeluid van 'Leave me there' begint bij mij te groeien. Lil Ugly Mane stond bij mij ook al een paar weken te trappelen in de bubbling under. 'Porcelain slightly' breekt met z'n aparte geluid langzaam maar zeker door.
Supergroep! NHC bestaat uit (en staat voor) Dave Navarro (van Jane's Addiction), Taylor Hawkins (van Foo Fighters) en Chris Chaney (ook Jane's Addiction). Op 'Beat the cruel' rocken ze er lustig op los, inclusief ouderwetse gitaarsolo.
De Shout Out Louds komen uit Stockholm en zingen daar ook over op 'As far away as possible'. Een single met Cureinaanse (Curesque?) gitaren.
De rode-lantaarndrager/ lijstduwer van deze week is Joss Stone. 'Never forget my love' bevat de van haar bekende gladde soul, en dat heeft niet per definitie een negatieve connotatie.

Achttien binnenkomers, tsja dan is het toch nog een hele lap tekst geworden. En ruim een uur muziek:

Vier nieuwe binnenkomers: De nieuwe Yard Act vervangt de vorige. Deze is leuker. Iets met potholes en sla.
Ook de nieuwe SnailMail haalt de weeklijst. Marina strooit ook zonder diamonds weer met levenswijsheden en tot slot een nummer dat al een tijdje in enkele lijstje hier staat en na een paar weken tiplijst heb ook ik eindelijk ruimte voor NOBRO, lekker meebleren, beetje MyChemichalRomance vibe. Wordt eigenlijk met de dag beter.
