Oké, ik heb van de gelegenheid gebruik gemaakt om wat albums te herbeluisteren, en nieuwe (die binnen mijn genres vallen hoofdzakelijk) voor de eerste keer te luisteren. Daarbij kan wat recency bias optreden, maar to be honest, dat geldt ook voor albums die ik "herbeluisterd" heb, en voor een groot deel v/d lijst. Het is en blijft een momentopname, en dit is de samenstelling waar ik het meest tevreden mee heb, na kritisch te zijn. Het verkennen van enkele jazz-albums is vooral te danken aan het nummer Strange Fruit van zowel Nina Simone als Billie Holiday die passeerden in de MuMeladders, anders had ik dat wellicht niet gedaan. Het succes van de 50's kan ironisch genoeg voor een deel verklaard worden door recency bias. Het probleem dat ik met de seventies heb, zien we hier ook enigszins wat in terug, hoewel uiteindelijk dat nog meevalt, omdat op basis van het resultaat van de 60's en 80's er misschien 2-3 albums meer van dat decennium in mijn lijst had moeten staan. Dat valt dan nog mee. Bij de nineties heb ik wel het gevoel dat de muziek gemaakt die algemeen gewaardeerd wordt me ook het meest ligt, en op zich valt er nog heel wat uit dit decennium te halen. Uit de 2010's heb ik met voorsprong het meeste muziek geluisterd, maar uiteindelijk haalt veel van die muziek de eindlijst niet, waardoor ik meer albums uit de nineties uit deze eindlijst beluisterd heb dan muziek uit het afgelopen decennium, en daarvan behaalt dan ook nog eens een hoger percentage mijn lijst hier, wat nog maar eens aantoont hoe mijn smaak qua het afgelopen decennium enorm devieert met de smaak van de gebruikers van deze site / dit forum, alsook deels verklaard kan worden door redenen die ik in dat topic heb gegeven heb, zoals o.a. het succes van de streamingplatforms en de bredere toegankelijkheid van allerlei soorten muziek, alsook dat het eenvoudiger is om anno 2021 zelf muziek te maken, met als gevolg een kleinere consensus en meer specialisering.

Binnen twee jaar hoop ik mee te doen in alle decenniumlijsten, en zeker de 80's / 90's / 00's en 10's. Volgend jaar hoop ik ook mee te kunnen doen in de MuMe top 1000. Dat zal ook iets makkelijker gaan dan dit, gezien er dan vrije keuze is, en de kans is best wel vrij groot dat er een heleboel uit deze lijst uiteindelijk die top 100 niet zullen halen.

Ik heb nog even gekeken hoeveel albums ik met iedereen gemeen heb. Met iedereen heb ik wel iets gemeen, maar er zitten gebruikers bij waarvan dat bij de hele top 50 soms maar 2 of 3 albums zijn. Bij de gebruiker boven me heb ik zelfs enkel The Colour of Spring gemeen, bij hem/zij op 47, bij mij op 37.

Ja, ik ga natuurlijk niet alle posts in dit topic doornemen verdorie. Ik was even benieuwd wanneer de deadline was en checkte de openingspost van de Sjef zelve.

Deze lijst illustreert de bedroevende trend muziek te herleiden tot alleen maar stoere, Engelstalige mannen. Vrouwen zijn zwaar in de minderheid. Niet-Engelstalige muziek komt er vrijwel niet in voor. Latijns-Amerika, Afrika en Azië zijn afwezig. Zelfs het Europese continent is slechts beperkt aanwezig. Er staat geen enkele zwarte vrouw in van na 1965. Disco is verboden, net als al wat dansbaar of romantisch is. Van verborgen pareltjes en eigenzinnige stijlen is al helemaal geen sprake (vb. Astor Piazzolla, Paco de Lucía, Jean Michel Jarre, Nina Hagen, Einstürzende Neubauten, Laura Marling, GoGo Penguin, Hiromi, Holly Herndon...).

Maar ook binnen de categorie Engelstalige mannen gaan de subtielere artiesten eruit: Steely Dan, Queen, The Alan Parsons Project, Elvis Costello, Dire Straits, The Police/Sting… Wat overblijft is een eenzijdige lijst met nogal wat macho’s die het meer van hun stoere imago dan van hun muzikale talent moeten hebben. Het is de smaak van oude rockrecensenten en opiniemakers op internet. Er staan natuurlijk nog goede platen in, maar minder dan acht jaar geleden. Dat bedoel ik dus wanneer ik deze lijst conservatief noem.

Niet om je punt wat betreft de wittemannenmetgitarenbias op Musicmeter te delegitimeren hoor, maar ik heb wel het gevoel dat er juist dit jaar wat minder conservatief spul in de lijst staat dan vorige jaren. Ik tel op het gebied van grote namen een Björk en Newsom extra en een entree van Grouper en Lana Del Rey in de startlijst, en bovendien op het gebied van niet-Europese muziek Fishmans en Ichiko Aoba erin. Ook meer hiphop dan ooit volgens mij, met Danny Brown, Cannibal Ox en Public Enemy erbij. Ik kan me eigenlijk niet voorstellen dat de lijst er acht jaar geleden gevarieerder uit zag, in de gebieden die jij noemt (behalve misschien op het gebied van "subtielere artiesten", maar dat is ook vrij subjectief natuurlijk, want ik vind de namen die jij noemt persoonlijk ook best conservatief). Dat is niet om te zeggen dat er genoeg ruimte voor verbetering is - volgend jaar samenspannen voor één of meerdere Braziliaanse artiesten in de lijst, wie doet mee?

Hulp nodig

Ik begrijp uw punt eigenlijk niet goed. Subtielere artiesten binnen de categorie Engelstalige mannen is al een uiterst subjectief begrip. Mochten "verborgen parels" er wel in staan, zouden ze niet langer "verborgen" zijn. Met Ichiko Aoba staan er trouwens wel verborgen parels in de eindlijst. En als de 2020's hadden kunnen meedoen had Windswept Adan er ook zeker ingestaan. Buiten de eigenzinnige stijlen die jij opnoemt, zijn er veel meer andere eigenzinnige stijlen die er meestal niet instaan (je kan niet alles in de eindlijst stemmen), en ook wel wat eigenzinnige stijlen die er wel instaan (Ichiko Aoba, Grouper bvb., maar ook bvb. de post-rock van Talk Talk of Slint).

Ik vind niet dat je gelijk hebt. Als ik naar je 5* kijkt, zie ik die verborgen parels of die "eigenzinnige stijlen" en de Latijns-Amerikaanse/Aziatische muziek eerlijk gezegd niet echt. Dat het een erg-rock georiënteerde lijst is, ga ik wel mee akkoord. Maar deels is dat ook omdat in de geschiedenis v/d muziek de platenlabels enzovoort ook niet hebben ingezet op diversiteit. En de zogenaamd zwarte muziek lang niet populair was of cool genoeg was. Maar ik denk dat vooral de latere decennia (00's en zeker de 10's) wat diverser kunnen in de toekomst. Daar heb ik het gevoel dat er te veel mensen stemmen voor muziek die niet representatief is voor dat decennium.



De tropicalia wordt wat onderschat hier.

Maar bvb. ik denk dat uit de 00's en 10's heel wat rockmuziek flink zal zakken terug. Heel veel zal de tijd gewoon niet doorstaan. Dat zie je nu al gebeuren, aan hoe artiesten als Coldplay compleet terugvallen en irrelevant worden. En dat is met name met elke sprekende rockgroep uit de 2000s het geval. Heel weinig baanbrekende muziek, en ik zie de 2000s pop rock eigenlijk als een laatste stuiptrekking uit de geschiedenis van het rockgenre.

Gelukkig is dat ook geen criterium voor het spel.

En we kunnen wel klagen over een niet representatieve of conservatieve lijst. Maar deze lijst is ontstaan uit meerdere samengevoegde lijsten, dan winnen de populairdere het natuurlijk altijd. Ik mis ook genoeg meesterwerken, maar die zijn schijnbaar niet populair genoeg om in de top mee te dingen.

En dat Superbitch klaagt over een conservatieve lijst maar daarna ook klaagt dat cliché artiesten uit de lijst verdwijnen is wel hilarisch.

Zou ook graag meer variatie zien met helden en heldinnen uit de Reggae, Hip Hop, R&B, en Neo-Soul gebieden, maar de lijst is de representatie van MuMe stemmers en daar kan je het objectief gezien niet "oneens" mee zijn.

Ik begrijp het wel, maar ik heb het probleem met de 2010s al een beetje verklaard. Als je al vergelijkt met RYM dan is het resultaat van de 2010s ook hetgeen dat het meest afwijkt met ons resultaat. En beide resultaten wijken ook het meest af met mijn favorieten. Ik vermoed ook wel dat het met leeftijd, generatie en cultuurverschillen tussen Benelux en globaal te maken heeft. Ik heb wel wat meesterwerkjes waarvan ik vind dat ze de top 50 inmoeten, maar in veel gevallen is de populariteit niet het probleem, maar het feit dat ze niet eens meer dan tien of twintig stemmen hebben op MuMe.
