Bij het kijken naar mijn nieuwe binnenkomers zie ik dat ze allemaal al in november in mijn tiplijst stonden. Deze heb ik de laatste tijd een klein beetje uit weten te dunnen (met dank ook aan de nieuwe_release_luwte); volgend jaar moet de tiplijst weer structureel richting de (maximaal) 100.

De twee hoogste nieuwe binnenkomers vind ik wel echte stevige klappers, beide house: de ene (Seven Davis Jr.) meer Prince-georiënteerd en de ander (Confidence Man) had zo op Turn Up The Bass 14 kunnen staan.

Sleaford Mods' cover van Pet Shop Boys heb ik vanwege het markante karakter best vaak gedraaid, maar vind ik eigenlijk meer een aardige novelty dan een echt goede uitvoering. De remix door PSB zelf is beter, maar in een week zonder kerst had hij het niet gehaald. Hetzelfde geldt voor A Beacon School's Mantra, meer traditionele jangle pop en niet zo'n superplaat als Jon. Mantra heeft wel iets fijns en intrigerends, maar blijft ook niet genoeg hangen om hele hoge ogen te gaan vermoedelijk. Of hij moet me na 6/7 weken draaien nog gaan verrassen.

Toch nog even tijd gevonden om een nieuwe lijst in te dienen met eigenlijk allemaal nieuwe binnenkomers die al in de wachtrij stonden. Hoogste binnenkomer is de hyperpop van yergurl waar ik helemaal fan van ben. Deze exactly the same vind ik nog niet zo goed al hard, maar dat kan de komende weken nog komen. Verder nieuw de Nederlandse singer-songwriter néomí met een nummer dat bij mij bij iedere luisterbeurt verder groeit. Mede geschreven en geproduceerd door Will Knox. Dance is er van Marten Lou en Jasper Tyger en voor de nodige introspectie zorgt Jonas Winterland met Het lied van vuurvlieg. Prachtig nummer dat ik via enkele andere lijstjes hier heb ontdekt.

2023 het jaar van de comeback. De terugkeer van jaren '60 en '70 iconen The Beatles en de Rolling Stones. Maar ook van Alice Cooper (nooit weggeweest), George Kooijmans (Golden Earring), Peter Gabriel (Genesis, inmiddels al legendarische terugkeer), Graham Nash (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young), Yes, Iggy Pop, Roger Waters (Pink Floyd), Sparks en Jethro Tull.

Hoe lang gaat dat nog goed.

Maar er zijn meer bands teruggekeerd, ook al zijn die dan minder 'oud'. De jaren '90 bands van nu. Uiteraard Shed Seven maar ook 12 Rods, New Model Army en de Levellers. En er zijn natuurlijk bands die onbeperkt blijven doorgaan nadat ze in 90's zijn gevormd. Ash, Goo Goo dolls, Foo Fighters, Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree), d'EUS, Noel Gallagher (Oasis), Suede, Metallica, Dandy Warhols en Dave Gahan (Depeche mode, al vanaf 1980).

En dat allemaal naast al die prachtige jongere bands en artiesten van de afgelopen jaren.
Ik was nooit zo ver gekomen zonder alle andere leden van dit Topic, moet zeker nog even worden gezegd.
Dus laten we het maar blijven volgen!

Ik las het net pas. Beterschap en goed idee al ben ik te laat. Hoop het snel beter met hem gaat.

Hopelijk heeft ieder fijne kerstdagen gehad, met passende muzikale omlijsting. De goedbedoelde lobby vóór Xmas in DE lijst heeft een heel klein beetje gewerkt. Ik dacht nog even “geef mij die laatste week maar, makkie, gebeurt toch nix”, Maar zie daar: 5 serieuze new entry’s die ik graag voorstel.
Want daar waar de rest van het land nostalgisch terugblikt met 2000 nummers uit een ver verleden, kijken Afrekenaars met een scherpe blik voortuit, naar de songs van de toekomst. Zoals de meest zichtbare stijger: de dancehit van Floating Points klimt in hun 2de week naar pos 5.
Ook wij blikken traditiegetrouw nog heel even terug met de MuMe Eindafrekening 2023 die de komende dagen in blokken zal komen met de finale op oudjaarsdag.

NIEUW in de lijst.

18. MGMT - Bubblegum Dog
“Kids” van MGMT staat op nr 1650 van de Top2000 dit jaar. Zullen ze zelf opzoeken of ze gedaald of gestegen zijn. Vermoedelijk niet want de februari release van hun nieuwe album verdient meer aandacht. Daar is dit 2de singel van en die voorspelt veel goeds want hoor ik daar niet pure Britpop invloeden.

23. The Reytons - Market Street
Half januari komt nu al het 3de Album uit van de rockers uit Yorkshire (the Midlands), precies 1 jaar na “What's Rock and Roll? Met als nieuwe titel: ”Ballad Of A Bystander” die al aangeeft dat ze verder willen groeien naar een gevarieerdere geluid dan puur rocken vanuit de garage. Op deze singel hoor ik zelfs een poppy synthesizer, maar in combi met de expressievolle zang blijft het een echte Reytons en dus een fijne toevoeging. En wie al eens bij een consert van ze heeft staan zweten weet dat er toen al behoefte was aan variatie. Dat gaat dus zeker goedkomen in de Maassilo en Melkweg.

26. Lo Moon - Evidence
Vanuit Los Angeles geeft Lo Moon een warmbloedige popsong waarmee ze overduidelijk gaan bewijzen dat ze de status van support-act voor bv. London Grammar en The War On Drugs achter zich willen laten. En daar word in bijna 7 minuten uitgebreid de tijd voor genomen. De viool waarmee “Evidence” heel voorzichtig opent blijft sferische accenten geven, stap voor stap richting de groots klinkende apotheose.
Het is evident: een vakkundig gemaakte diamant.

27. The Pineapple Thief - The Frost
Het Zuid Èngelse The Pineapple Thief gaat volgend jaar vast vieren dat ze al 25 jaar muziek maken. Welliswaar in wissende samenstelling maar dat houdt het avontuur op gang. Dat feest begint in februari met de presentatie van album nr. 16 titel “ It Leads to This “. The Frost is daar de eerste voorproef van met atmosferische zang afgewisseld met een groots gitaarriff. Met echo’s van PinkFloyd en Radiohead, heel passend als op radio2 de top2000 klinkt.

30. The Rills - Bones
Leuk te zien dat de 3 Engelse Ketelbinkies van The Rills regelmatig voldoende punten bij elkaar sprokkelen om weer een nieuwe singel de afrekening in te loodsen. Ook fijn te horen dat er stap voor stap meer subtiele details te horen zijn tussen de strakke riffs.
