24: Helena Hauff dook hier al op bij yeahyeahyeah en terecht, want dit is een dijk van een gruizige acid technoplaat. Zeer benieuwd naar meer nieuw werk van haar. In het verleden haalde ze al eens mijn top 10 met Gift (in 2017), maar dit vind ik nog een stuk beter eigenlijk. Ik draai overigens wel de lange versie van 8:40, de veel kortere videoclipversie geloof ik verder wel...
31: Bubble Love is een nieuw pseudoniem van Felix Clary Weatherall, hier beter bekend als Ross From Friends. En Felix zoekt alles behalve de duisternis, want Believe is een wel heel dartele housetune. Ik ben benieuwd naar het nummer dat hier gesampled wordt, klinkt als een jaren '70 soulplaat. Kan het nu zo gauw niet vinden.
33: Neighbours Burning Neighbours zag ik laatst in Paradiso, met een fijne show. Deze single had bij mij even nodig om hier in te voegen, al was ik meteen al wel onder de indruk. Goede bak gitaarlawaai met invloeden van midden jaren '80 Sonic Youth o.a..
38: Lou Hayter is onderdeel van Metronomy en eigenlijk dit jaar pas goed op mijn radar gekomen met diverse goede singles. Het is te merken dat ze maar een paar jaar jonger is dan mij, want ze pakt precies die trage late 80s/vroege 90s dancesound die ik altijd heel fijn vind (wat je ook terughoort bij o.a. Soul II Soul, Massive Attack, etc.
39: Coeo is een Duits duo met ook weer opgewekte housemuziek. Ook hier hoor ik subtiel weer wat 90s house voorbij komen, of in ieder geval wat etherische samples die je rond 1992/1993 ook voorbij hoorde komen. Geen plaat waar je even snel doorheen moet skippen, maar een die je lekker 7 minuten over je heen moet laten komen.

Maus' Weeklijst

The Cure staat er deze week weer alleen voor. Zal ze weinig deren. The Times meldde afgelopen week dat de iconische band mogelijk tot 2028 (hun vijftigste verjaardag) op tournee blijft gaan, om daarna af te zwaaien. Op zijn zeventigste wil Smith in 2029 in rustiger vaarwater belandden, mits hij het natuurlijk haalt, zo zegt hijzelf. Zeker nog een keer meepakken als je de kans krijgt!

De rest van het podium wordt verdeeld over Fontaines D.C. & FKA Twigs, die beiden bevestigd zijn voor Primavera Sound volgend jaar. clipping. en Tindersticks zijn ook zittenblijvers, en vinden het prima vertoeven zo in de Top 5. Daarachter gebeurt wel wat meer, met een hoge nieuwe binnenkomer en een paar nieuwe entrees in de Top 10 (The Horrors, Bon Iver).

Hunkerend denken we nog even terug aan het strand, want ''The Beaches'' zwaaien af na 12 weken dienst. Niet getreurd, beabadoobee (ook geboekt voor Primavera Sound) houdt de moraal van het strand nog hoog. Wanneer komt de nieuwe Beach House?!

Het tweede wapenfeit van de lange tijd ijzig stille band. Prachtig hoe de band compleet zichzelf blijft en toch met fijne dingen voor de dag weet te komen. Geen brat hier om maar met de tijd mee te gaan, maar nummers verpakt in sterke thema`s die spelen bij de zestigers onder ons, op zeker niet bij deze doelgroep alleen.

22. The Rope - Nightbird

Deze Amerikaanse postpunk band uit Minnesota, meer specifiek Minneapolis bestaat alweer 15 jaar! Mooie wall of sound effecten tijdens het schurende refrein. Een aanrader voor alle rockers.

24. The Murder Capital - Can't Pretend To Know

De Ierse rockband timmert in de schaduw van hun landgenoten, goed aan de weg. Ze zijn vaste klanten in dit topic en komen op de proppen met een prachtige, haast spookachtige productie. Perfect voor Halloween. Jammer dat de zang net teveel van hetzelfde is.

30. Mother Mother - Devil Town

Tot slot een Canadese rockband met een wat meer poppy geluid. Zeker een aanstekelijk nummer, zo te lezen in de comment sectie onder de song, wordt hij vooral omarmd door een nieuwe generatie tieners. Immer schattige monoloog ook op het einde, weinig verrassend maar mooi betoog voor meer monsters in boeken en films, anders heeft het kroost niemand om troost bij te zoeken.

week 43 van 2024 waarin de top 2 nog met moeite standhoudt, zal zeker de laatste week zijn. Kleine verschuivingen in de top 10 maar de opvolgers zijn hard onderweg, waarbij ook zeker met de binnenkomers van deze week rekening moet worden gehouden.
Een nieuwe Momma - 3 x top 5 in 2022 -, heerlijk nummer dat nog steeds aan Veruca Salt doet denken moet toch - voorlopig - z'n meerdere erkennen in de nieuwe Pit Pony die al ook 2 top 5 hits bij mij hebben gehad in 2022 en 24. Lilly Hiatt komt ook met haar beste single in tijden en ook Fightmilk komt eindelijk weer in de buurt van hun top 5 single van 2020. En wat te denken van een verrassende comeback van Sixpence None the Richer die in het historie topic van 1999 goed scoren bij mij.

Sander's Music Chart, week 44 - 2024

En daar is ‘ie dan—de verrassende wisseling aan de top waar we allemaal stiekem op hoopten! Duran Duran grijpt met hun nieuwe track ‘NEW MOON (DARK PHASE)’ de felbegeerde nummer 1-positie. Na maanden van sterke concurrentie weten de 80's legendes met een mysterieuze twist opnieuw de aandacht te trekken. Geen wonder dat ze nu op de hoogste trede staan—dit soort come-backs blijven indrukwekkend, zeker na zo’n lange carrière.

Maar dat is nog niet alles, want The Cure klimt deze week naar nummer twee met hun meeslepende single ‘Alone’. Ondanks dat Robert Smith de pensioengerechtigde leeftijd allang gepasseerd is (en het schijnbaar nog steeds heeft over “geesten en vleermuizen”), blijft zijn invloed onmiskenbaar groot. Met een drie minuten durende intro, durven ze zich als vanouds niets aan te trekken van de trends—en dat wordt beloond. ‘Alone’ geeft ons dat klassieke, melancholische Cure-gevoel dat ons al decennia weet te raken.

Gavin Friday houdt zich ook stevig vast in de top drie met ‘Ecco Homo’, en hoewel het podium deze week door grootheden wordt bezet, is het onderin de top 10 dat de echte beweging plaatsvindt. Stevie Nicks schiet door naar plek vier met ‘The Lighthouse’, een nummer dat bewijst dat deze rockheks haar magie nog lang niet kwijt is. Ook New Order maakt een knallende comeback met de remix van ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’, en zelfs The Horrors maken een duistere indruk met hun nieuwe entree in de lijst.

Op de Tipparade zien we een explosieve start voor The Bracknall met ‘Get Better’, die deze week de Chart Breaker is. Deze track heeft alle potentie om de rest van de lijst op te schudden en snel door te stoten naar de Top 20. Oscar and the Wolf keert terug met ‘Spill My Liquor’ en wie weet gaat deze hit nog flink scoren in de komende weken.

Bij de Bubbling Under staat Tamino met ‘Babylon’ op nummer één als Robert's Bamischijf. Zijn ingetogen, melancholische stijl heeft hem snel een plek aan de top van deze lijst bezorgd. Verder valt Charles Aznavour op met ‘Comme Ils Disent’, dankzij de hernieuwde aandacht voor zijn werk door de film Monsieur Aznavour. Een prachtig eerbetoon aan een tijdloze legende. Daarnaast duiken ook namen als Suede en Bryan Ferry op, wat laat zien dat klassiekers nog altijd hun plek in de moderne muziekwereld weten te behouden.

Het blijft spannend en vol verrassingen op Sander’s Music Chart, en met zoveel verschuivingen is de vraag: wie zal volgende week de felbegeerde top drie veroveren? Eén ding is zeker: als je fan bent van klassieke, tijdloze artiesten, zit je deze week goed!
