⚡Blanck Mass' You is een nogal schizofrene plaat, maar daardoor wel een hele hele goede die hier in een weekje naar de kop van de rotatielijst is gegaan. Het is grotendeels een licht-industrieel popnummer met een vederlichte gelukzalige melodie die me een beetje doet denken aan iets dat uit de koker van de Pet Shop Boys anno 1985 had kunnen komen. Maar dan is er ineens een stukje van 10/15 seconden met wat heerlijk cathartisch gekrijs dat er vreemdgenoeg helemaal inpast.
⚡London Grammar is goed onder handen genomen door Sofia Kourtesis. Origineel ging wat langs me heen, maar op deze manier kan ik dan wel weer erg van genieten.
⚡Chloé Caillet staat nog heel hoog in de lijst met een andere samenwerking. Deze keer heeft ze met de Frans-Braziliaanse electroband PPJ een heerlijke 90s house-revival plaat gemaakt. Vooral de break is zalig.
⚡Liedjes over tennis hebben als tennisser mijn speciale aandacht. Zoveel zijn er ook weer niet (ik houd me aanbevolen voor tips, al moet ik degene die ik al ken eens op een rijtje zetten). Deze van Meindert Talma is wel heel droog-komisch en de tekst soms vrij herkenbaar, want ik ga ook nog wel eens tennissen met mijn vriendin.
⚡Horsegirl had 2 jaar terug een van de fijnste albums van het jaar. Deze moest ik wel vaak horen voor het een beetje wilde landen. Het is een klein indiepop-liedje dat nauwelijks opvalt en voorbij is voor je er erg in hebt, maar gaandeweg ben ik het wel meer gaan waarderen. Hopelijk komt er ook weer gauw een nieuwe plaat aan.

MuMe Afrekening, gezamenlijke weeklijst 2025 - week 3

Na twee weken (plus nog een kerstweek) Haunted Youth aan de top van de MuMeAfrekening is het nu 'People Watching' van Sam Fender die lijstaanvoerder is. En dat is niet voor het eerst, want in december ging de track ook al twee weken aan de leiding. Komt vaker voor hoor, terug stijgen naar #1; de laatste die dat deed was 'Jon' van a Beacon School in oktober 2023. Maar een track die in twee afzonderlijke jaargangen naar #1 stijgt, da's dan wel weer uniek (ja je moet er iets van proberen te maken hè, van zo'n stukje). Het is trouwens al wekenlang retespannend tussen deze twee: in week 51 had Sam Fender 2 punten voorsprong, vorige week won the Haunted Youth met 1 punt verschil en nu slaat Fender weer terug met 3 punten ertussen.
De nieuwkomers in de lijst laten even op zich wachten; pas in het laatste gedeelte treffen we vijf tracks aan die we vorige week nog niet hoorden. Twee daarvan keren nota bene terug in de lijst, over de drie gloednieuwe binnenkomers lees je hieronder meer.

Voor alle fans van Charli XCX: als iets nóg leukers wilt horen, luister dan eens naar de hoogste binnenkomer in de MuMeAfrekening van deze week. Voor alle niet-fans van Charli geldt dat ook natuurlijk: dit is leuker. Tenminste, dat vindt chartsmaster. 'Sugar Water Cyanide' is in ieder geval een aanstekelijke mix van hyperpop en bubblegum. De Mexicaans/ Amerikaanse zangeres profileert zich op haar nieuwe single als een sassy, feisty dame (ik weet ook niet precies wat dat betekent hoor, maar mijn huisgenoot vindt dat mooie woorden) en maakt er een lekkere meezinger van. Over drie dagen is het ook terug te vinden op Blacks nieuwe, tweede album, 'Salvation'.

28. Pye Corner Audio - Underneath
Bij het woord banger in combinatie met muziek moet ik altijd aan Rob de Nijs denken, maar ook dit is weer een echte banger hoor! Martin Jenkins, zo heet deze Britse producer, maar omdat dat nou niet bepaald een flitsende naam is noemt hij zich Pye Corner Audio. Hij vindt van zichzelf dat hij gespecialiseerd is in "majestueuze, filmische electronica die sci-fi soundtracks, dystopische toekomsten en het geluid van spookachtige dansvloeren oproept", maar of dat zo is maken wij natuurlijk zelf wel uit. chartsmaster vindt het gewoon een lekker in het gehoor liggende, gelaagd opgebouwde, eeh, banger dus. O ja, en hij mist het woordje hypnotiserend, of Martin Jenkins dat ook nog even in zijn bio wil opnemen.

29. DJ Koze - Pure love (ft. Damon Albarn)
Da's ook wat, chartsmaster dacht dat deze al lang in de MuMeAfrekening stond joh! Nu dus pas binnen en niet eens zo hoog, maar wat niet is dat gaat hopelijk nog komen. chartsmaster is namelijk uitermate te spreken over deze Duits/Britse samenwerking tussen Hamburger DJ Koze (spreek uit: kotsen) en Britpoppert Damon Albarn (spreek uit: Albarn). De stem van de Blur- en Gorillaz-baas is stevig door de vervormer gehaald en Stefan 'DJ Koze' Kozalla heeft hem door een productie met een tropisch tintje gemixt. Wat resulteert in een relaxte track waar je een cocktail bij wilt drinken, maar die, vanwege de stemvervorming, toch een onheilspellend tintje heeft.

Binnen De Lijntjes

Dit is de lijst die ik dit weekend wilde plaatsen, maar ik kwam er niet meer aan toe. Dus deze is voor mijn eigen administratie, of mag mee voor de eerstvolgende Afrekening.
Met Celeste als een van de twee nieuwe binnenkomers - toen ik dit nummer voor het eerst hoorde, herkende ik het intro meteen van een ander nummer, maar welke...daar ben ik nog wel even zoet mee geweest. Ik kon het ook opzoeken natuurlijk, maar het was leuker om zelf de hersens te laten kraken en allemaal verschillende platen in te starten om twee seconden later te merken "nee, deze is het ook al niet". Uiteindelijk gevonden: Dirge van Death In Vegas. Fijne draai heeft Celeste hier aan gegeven.

Hardlopers zijn doodlopers, wordt gezegd, en misschien geldt het andersom ook. Na herbeluisteren vond ik de nieuwe single van The Doves net zo aardig als de nieuwe van Tuesday Night Whites.

Had ik ook nog nooit van gehoord maar ze staan erg hoog in de lijsten van meest talent- en beloftevolle Indie artiesten van dit moment. Energiek. Uiteraard komen ze uit het VK.

Altijd ook weer blij met de Waterboys. Eerste album uit 1983 en feitelijk nooit weggeweest. Maar liefst 10 albums in de 21e eeuw. Diep petje af. Hopper slaat uiteraard op Dennis Hopper. Weer eens een wat kortere single.
