Ik heb deze in mijn boekenkast staan: Indie Hits 1980 – 1989 - Cherry Red Records - cherryred.co.uk. Zoals het Hitdossier, maar dan van alle platen die lijst haalden tussen 1980 en 1989. Vanaf 1990 begon de lijst te veranderen doordat grotere platenlabels kleine onafhankelijke partijen inlijfden en hun eigen 'indie' afdeling begonnen. Daarna verwaterde het en waren de platen in de lijst niet echt meer wat je 'indie' zou noemen. Maar interessant om te zien wat er in de lijsten stond en de biografieën van de bands te lezen. Daar zit veel tussen wat erg buiten de mainstream valt.

Ik doe nu al 5 jaar na dato ontdekkingen in mijn eigen chart. Toch fijn dat ik deze Human League single toen ook al heb mee laten draaien, is toch wel een favorietje in het HL oeuvre geworden. The Human League hier duidelijk in limbo met 80's sound en nog niet aan het aanpassen aan de ontluikende 90's.
Het nummer is ook enorm Pet Shop Boys achtig qua sound vind ik.
En wat ziet Susan er geweldig uit in de video (die ik blijkbaar zelden gezien heb) wat een zeer appetijtelijke dame

Even wat kanttekeningen weer na 5 jaar.
Beverly Craven zou de top 20 nu zeker niet meer halen, vind dr niet veel aan meer. Ook Janet niet, dat geldt wel voor een groot deel van haar repertoire. De hoge posities voor Depeche Mode, INXS, Bass-O-Matic en The Farm op 1 kan ik nog steeds onderschrijven. Die van The Human League blijft fijn en Never enough van The Cure is 1 van mijn favo's van hen. The High zei me totaal niets dus dat moet ik even nachecken, dat zal door anderen tijdens het originele posten wel zijn beinvloedt.

De videoversie van Come together is absoluut niet de versie die ik de 10e plek nu geef.

Ik dacht: dat ga ik deze week ook eens bekijken, want bij die oude lijsten heb ik soms hits die nu zelfs mijn playlist niet meer halen en andere die ik met terugwerkende kracht veelk meer waardeer. Maar met de lijst van deze week kan ik ook nu nog leven. The Beautiful South en Bassomatic zijn de top 2 als ik nu uit deze 30 zou moeten kiezen.

Nog steeds vrij tevreden na 5 jaar.
Beverley een no-go, Janet krabt aan de verkeerde trap en de new entries zijn terecht. Alleen had George Michael een veel langer verblijf mogen krijgen, net zoals The Human League.
Kicking Back With Taxman werd door de AVRO toen RTV tip, net zoals Fascinating rhythm, veel meer durf dan Veronica met voorspelbare alarmschijven meestal en weinig buiten de hokjes.
KBWT en Fascinating rhythm sowieso anno nu top 10 1990 singles voor mij.

De topper bij de binnennkomers is in 2021 de nummer 11: African Business met In Zaire, hoewel ook de nummer 20, tröckener kecks met 'met hart en ziel' nog wel eens voorbij komt in mijn playlist. Met een cover van Erwin Olaf, maar dat hoorde ik vorig jaar pas.

Mooi dat je wat Praying For Time betreft tot een beter inzicht bent gekomen dan toen

Double Dee feat. Dany - Found Love scoort bij mij dan hoog in een top 50 van de 90's. Evenals INXS' Suicide Blonde. Toch wel een lekkere tijd toen.

Ja die van Double Dee blijft leuk, wel een typisch Turn Up The Bass nummer. Was vroeger altijd gek op die zweepslag met funky drummer na ieder refrein.
Suicide blonde altijd geweldig gevonden, hoewel het ook een dikke hit was in veel landen heb ik wel altijd het idee dat het een beetje ondergewaardeerd is in hun single catalogus (het bands van de 80's stappen over naar de 90's syndroom, die grensalbums hobbelen vaak op 2 gedachten)
