De jaren 80 heb ik heel bewust meegemaakt: dat gegeven maakte de keuze er niet makkelijker op.
De nrs. 1 t/m 7 heb ik afgeleid uit mijn eigen top 10 (wel zo consequent lijkt me). Deze top 20 is eigenlijk een dwarsdoorsnede wat ik toen veel luisterde c.q. nu nog steeds graag hoor. Mijn nummer 1 heb ik overigens voor de 1e keer in zijn geheel in 1988 gehoord, toen ik het album op cd kocht. 1988 was wat dat betreft een cruciaal jaar in mijn muziekbelevenis, daar toen ook voor de 1e keer de nr.1 in mijn top 10 hoorde: Dark side of the moon van Pink Floyd. In de jaren 80 was ik overigens meer een single- dan een albumkoper.

Unknown Pleasures komt uit '79 en R.E.M. maakte nooit een album dat The Queen Is Dead heet.

Hier is mijn inzending!

Enkel mijn favo band mag met 2 platen meedoen, voor de rest max 1 plaat per artiest. Al de 20 platen zijn minimaal een 4,5. Zoals wellicht bekend zijn de 80's mijn zeer dierbaar dus makkelijk was het niet. De onderste tien hadden op een andere dag zo maar wat plaatsjes hoger dan wel lager kunnen staan.

En ik maar denken dat de '80's een waardeloos decennium was. Ik had anderhalf week geleden even een overzichtje gemaakt van interessante albums, bleken dat er zo'n 40 te zijn Nu zijn er al bijna 10 albums daarvan die wellicht in mijn Top 20 komen (Galaxie 500, Young Marble Giants, Sonic Youth, The Feelies, Slayer, Dinosaur Jr., Violent Femmes, Philip Glass, Cybotron en The Stone Roses). En dan heb zijn er nog een paar die ik voor de deadline zeker nog moet gaan luisteren (Eric B. & Rakim, Marc Almond, Japan, The Fall, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Minutemen, Hüsker Dü en op dit moment staat My Bloody Valentine aan). Het bekende werk (zoals U2, Bruce Spingsteen, Simple Minds, Prince, Marillion en Depeche Mode) is niet mijn cup of tea, maar er is meer dan genoeg plezier te beleven in de '80's! Vooral aan het einde gebeurde er genoeg (opkomst alternatieve rock, hiphop en dance).

Pfoe, wat is lijstjes maken toch lastig. Gelukkig heb ik precies 20 stemmen van 4 sterren of hoger op '80s albums dus dat maakte het kiezen al wat makkelijker. De volgorde kan morgen weer flink anders zijn, maar ik heb hem als volgt vastgelegd:
