Bespreking nieuwe binnenkomers:

08) Gelukkig was er tussen al het hitparadegeweld nog plek voor liedjes waarvoor de V15 ooit bedoeld was. Patti scoorde met deze voormalige parkeerschijf zowaar haar derde (en laatste) hit(je) in ons land. Nog altijd een prachtig, krachtig en energiek nummer.
11) Opnieuw werkte Revelation Time samen met Ruud Gullit, die om dat moment overstapte naar AC Milan en zou schitteren op het komende EK. In die tijd was een lied gericht tegen het apartheidsregime in Zuid-Afrika bepaald geen zeldzaamheid.
13) Heaven Is a Place on Earth wist de V15 eerder niet te halen, maar deze mooie ballad (en voormalige paradeplaat van de TROS) wel. Stiekem hadden al die stoere klasgenoten van mij die van ruigere muziek hielden wel een crush op Belinda.
15) Beds Are Burning is het enige nummer van Midnight Oil dat je nog wel eens op de radio hoort, maar deze opvolger is er denk ik al jaren niet meer gedraaid. Was destijds nog radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO.

13) Bruce was een vaste klant in de V15. Dit melancholische nummer behoort tot mijn favorieten van hem en was nog speciale aanbieding bij de KRO.
15) Er wordt altijd gezegd dat een paar van de beste muzikanten ter wereld in deze band zitten/zaten, maar dat is zeker geen garantie voor spannende of goede muziek als je het mij vraagt. Laat ik het er maar op houden dat dit niet helemaal mijn ding is.

11) Ik kan me nog herinneren dat ik dit nummer destijds een revelatie vond. Het was (en is) opwindend en anders dan wat er toen in de hitlijsten stond. Salt 'N' Pepa zou hier ook niet meer overheen gaan, latere singles werden al gauw gelikter. Was nog radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO.
14) Inxs scoorde destijds de ene hit na de andere en dit was zelfs één van hun meest succesvolle singles. Was nog speciale aanbieding bij de KRO.
15) Whitney was inmiddels V15-waardig bevonden en ik ben eerlijk gezelgd allang blij dat ze er deze keer niet met een kleffe ballad in kwam. Was nog paradeplaat bij de TROS.

10) Zoals wel vaker bij covers is het origineel (in dit geval van Dusty Springfield, die wel menig nummer beter wist te maken dan het origineel) beter en daar is dit nummer geen uitzondering op. Was nog paradeplaat bij de TROS.
12) De eerste van een reeks inhoudsloze en pretentieloze zomerdeuntjes (compleet met toen al gedateerde Italoreferenties) van de vrouw met slechts twee grote talenten. Gauw door naar de volgende!
14) Na Wipe out voorzagen de Fat Boys nog een gouwe ouwe van een nieuw jasje en Chubby (die het nummer wereldberoemd maakte) mocht ook meedoen (luister hier voor het origineel uit de jaren '50). Was nog radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO.

Fatal Flowers zijn wel cool. De rest , tja...

11) De groep brak door dankzij het ESF van 1988. Niet door er aan deel te nemen, maar door er met dit nummer als pauze-act op te treden (Celine Dion won dat jaar). Was nog paradeplaat bij de TROS.
13) Puike rockballad van een band die wel erg goed geluisterd heeft naar (of liever gezegd: gejat heeft van) Led Zeppelin. Was nog parkeerschijf bij de VARA.
14) Het jongensbandje van 1988, met een zorgvuldig gekozen stoer imago dat de leegheid van de act moest maskeren. Gelukkig was het weer gauw voorbij met hun 15 minutes of fame.
15) Dit nummer van Cat Stevens is veelvuldig gecoverd (de bekendste versie is van Jimmy Cliff) en deze versie van Maxi, een slap reggeapopdeuntje, is bepaald niet de beste.

11) Jimmy Helms had in 1973 een hit met Gonna Make You an Offer You Can't Refuse, maar echt succes had hij pas als zanger van Londonbeat. Wel meteen hun ruigste nummer, hierna werd het steeds zoetsappiger en poppier. Was nog Radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO én parkeerschijf bij de VARA.
15) Een liefdevolle ode aan de iconen van de soulmuziek en het zou uiteindelijk zelfs de eerste plaats van de hitparade halen. Drie hits later was het alweer over en uit voor de band.

Bespreking nieuwe binnenkomers:

09) Geen clip uiteraard (of misschien wel beter gezegd: nog steeds niet), maar inmiddels wel al op spotify, dus moet je hem daar maar even opzoeken. Was radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO en speciale aanbieding bij de KRO.
13) Vandaag de dag hoor je hem nog nauwelijks, deze vijfde single alweer van het album Faith. Misschien is dat wel omdat hij (in tegenstelling tot de vorige vier singles) ondertussen behoorlijk gedateerd klinkt.

Nogal ja, Gedateerder dan het meeste van Wham! zelfs.

Net trouwens Don't Go van Hothouse Flowers weer eens beluisterd, die had ik ook al jaren niet meer gehoord en is ook wel een beetje vergeten. In mijn herinnering werd de clip trouwens vertoond tijdens het Eurovisie songfestival. En was er geen optreden.

De lijst is nu eigenlijk een kopie van de gewone hitlijsten waar af en toe iets insluipt wat in de gewone hitlijsten lager staat (Hothouse Flowers, Kingdom Come). En soms iets voorloopt op de gewone lijsten.

Zelfs Tatjana haalde de lijst en Everyday is like Sunday van Morrissey blijkbaar niet (dat is uit deze periode!) om maar eens een voorbeeld te noemen. Of gaan we die nog krijgen?

Nee, die heeft (net als zoveel "alternatieve krakers" uit die tijd) de lijst niet eens gehaald. Zelfs een band als The Pixies stond nooit in de V15.

07) Het was destijds (in de reguliere versie) zijn doorbraakhit, maar deze versie (zoals hij hem eigenlijk op dat moment al jaren live speelde) vind ik veel beter en is al jaren een vaste waarde in mijn top 1000.
09) Nog een notering uit mijn top 1000, al bungelt dit nummer ergens onderaan. Het was nog speciale aanbieding bij de KRO en het was ook in de Miniparade (met die verschrikkelijke Eddy Keur als presentator) dat ik dit nummer voor het eerst hoorde (en het meteen geweldig vond).
13) De vorige (net even te gezellige) 8 singles van deze band gingen (gelukkig) aan de V15 voorbij en het is me een raadsel waarom dit nummer nou wel de lijst haalde (al is het wel hun meest "volwassen" single).
15) Destijds een populaire band, maar het doet mij helemaal niets. Was nog favorietschijf bij de NCRV. Leuk nieuwtje uit het boek 50 jaar hitparade: Dit is een cover van Phillip Walker die hetzelfde nummer 1 dag eerder in dezelfde studio met dezelfde producer en dezelfde blazerssectie opnam en dat nummer klinkt zo.

11) Een opvolger voor Fast Car kon natuurlijk niet uitblijven en dat werd dit nummer, dat het nog schopte tot speciale aanbieding bij de KRO.
13) Echt grote hits scoorde Crowded House nooit, maar ze wisten regelmatig de onderste regionen van de hitlijsten te halen met fraaie nummers zoals deze. Was nog parkeerschijf bij de VARA.
14) Alweer de zesde single van het album Bad en er zouden er nog twee volgen! Ik word er niet echt warm van.
15) Ook hier word ik niet echt warm van en al die poedelrockbands (wat een heerlijke term is dat toch) uit de jaren '80 kunnen me gestolen worden.

14) De band van de lelijkste zanger ter wereld (Shane McGowan) scoorde hiermee hun enige hit en een feestje is het zeker, deze voormalige favorietschijf van de NCRV.

08) Na Push It begon Salt 'N' Pepa regelmatig liedjes uit de jaren '60 als basis te gebruiken. Hier gaat het om It's Your Thing van The Isley Brothers uit 1962.
11) Ik Noemde Axl Rose al eens ergens het zingende speenvarken, dus laat ik hier maar geen woorden aan vuil maken. Was destijds parkeerschijf bij de VARA.
13) Nog zo'n nummer dat helemaal 1988 klinkt. Het origineel is van Otis Clay uit 1975. Was nog radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO.

Bespreking nieuwe binnenkomers:

04) Ik ben geen grote fan van Level 42, maar dit nummer heb ik altijd zeer goed kunnen waarderen. Er zit een lekkere INXS-achtige drive in. Was nog paradeplaat bij de TROS en tevens hun laatste grote hit.
10) In deze tijd begon de V15 steeds meer de hitlijsten te volgen dan andersom, want dit stond op dat moment al in de top 40. Hun derde hit en tevens hun derde radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO.
13) We kunnen natuurlijk een flauw grapje maken over de titel, maar ik heb hier wel vaker niet zo vleiend over UB 40 geschreven en dit is niet eens zo'n heel belabberd nummer.
14) Velen dachten dat deze Nederlandse band wel eens een internationale doorbraak kon realiseren. Aan de VARA heeft het zeker niet gelegen. Daar draaiden ze veel nummers van de band, die daardoor de V15 nog een snufje eigenzinnigheid wist te geven.

05) Op dat moment al vele malen gecovered en Phil deed het ook nog maar eens een keer voor de (matige) film Buster. De melodie is ontleend aan een pianosonate van Clementi, al wordt het daar een stuk sneller gespeeld. Dit was de eerste popversie uit 1965
08) Absoluut een leuk bandje dat a-ha, maar dit nummer heb ik altijd verschrikkelijk gevonden. Doet me aan Dance Hall Days van Wang Chung denken (wel een leuk nummer) en het was nog paradeplaat bij de TROS.
10) Als ik me niet vergis is dit nummer alleen in ons land op single uitgebracht (waar we dat nou weer aan te danken hebben.....). Het staat dan ook niet op de verzamelaar Past to Present 1977-1990. Was nog radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO.
12) Die waren jullie vast al lang vergeten he? Dan verkeer je in goed gezelschap, want er ging bij mij geen belletje rinkelen. Ik vermoed dat deze anti-apartheidssong met een flinke scheut gospel een voormalige parkeerschijf is, want het nummer flopte verder totaal.

07) De voorbode van wat later hun meest Amerikaans klinkende album zou blijken. Een wisselvallig album als je het mij vraagt, met dit als één van de betere nummers daarvan.
11) De dochter van Sam Cooke en de broer van Bobby Womack waren verantwoordleijk voor één van de grootste hits van 1988 en ik vind er nog steeds geen r*k aan. Was nog radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO.
12) Net als U2 had Sting een abonnement op de V15. Op deze voormalige speciale aanbieding van de KRO toont hij zich van zijn meest maatschappelijk betrokken kant.
15) De opvolger van Tribute was nog radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO en wist nog hoog in de hitlijsten te komen. Dat was meteen ook de laatste keer dat dit de heren lukte.

10) Ik kan me herinneren dat het destijds een beetje als een curiositeit werd gezien, een funky (hard)rockband met louter zwarte bandleden. Alsof zwarten alleen maar discomuziek zouden kunnen maken! Deze voormalige radio- en televisietip van de AVRO was de opmaat voor een snel rijzende populariteit.
15) Het was eind jaren '80 (en ook nog jaren erna) heel gebruikelijk dat oude nummers vanwege een reclamespot weer een hit werden. Vooral een bekend spijkerbroekenmerk had hier een houtje van en het wist deze bluesklassieker uit 1977 weer in de hitlijsten te krijgen.

13) Eindelijk was daar de verdiende hit voor de Duitse Springsteen, vandaag de dag nog steeds één van de grootste en populairste zangers in Duitsland. Schön das es dich gibt!
14) Zomaar ineens was daar uit het niets een grote hit voor stemacrobaat McFerrin, die daarna weer snel in de vergetelheid raakte. DJ Alfred Lagarde maakte er als Johnny Camaro nog een Nederlandstalige versie van.

06) Vandaag de dag vooral bekend als een mama appelsap nummer (Peter heeft het overleefd). Een cheesy hiphopnummer waar ik nog steeds heel vrolijk van word. Was nog radio- en televisietip bij de AVRO.
13) Eigenlijk zijn dit nummer en het bijbehorende album (Watermark) best wel goed, maar Enya verspeelde veel krediet door hierna steeds met nagenoeg exacte kopieën van deze sound te komen. Was nog favorietschijf bij de NCRV en speciale aanbieding bij de KRO.
14) Er gaat zoals wel vaker niets boven het origineel, maar het is nog best aardig gecoverd. Was nog speciale aanbieding bij de KRO.
15) House begon langzaam maar zeker de hitlijsten te veroveren en dit hoort vandaag de dag wat mij betreft nog steeds tot de beste househits. Was nog paradeplaat bij de anders toch bepaald niet zo hippe TROS.

12) Alsof het album Bad nog niet genoeg uitgemolken was! Ook dit nummer verscheen (dankzij de film Moonwalker) op single en werd zelfs zijn grootste hit. Later nog verdienstelijk gecoverd door Alien Ant Farm
14) Een uit de hand gelopen weddenschap met zijn zoon vormt voor Tom Jones in 1988 de spetterende start van een comeback die hem tot vandaag in de spotlights houdt.
15) John Hiatt mocht slechts af en toe ruiken aan de (onderste regionen van de) hitparade en deze ode aan zijn dochter en voormalige speciale aanbieding van de KRO deed dat ook bij de V15, want na deze ene week was het nummer alweer verdwenen.

11) Vandaag is de nieuwe single van onze eigen Nits (anno 1988 nog net met "The" ervoor) uitgekomen, de groep die in 1988 het prachtige ingetogen en melancholische mini-album Hat uitbracht met daarop o.a. deze single. Wat mij betreft nog altijd een band om trots op te zijn.
13) Kim Wilde in de V15, waarom ook niet? Het is een prachtig nummer en dat vond de VARA ook, want die maakten er nog hun parkeerschijf van.
15) Robert Palmer is wat mij betreft zo'n artiest waarvan ik nog nooit een vervelend nummer heb gehoord, maar ook nooit eentje waarvan ik helemaal uit mijn dak ga (al komt Johnny & Mary in de buurt). Geen straf om naar te luisteren.

12) Een samenwerking tussen één van mijn favoriete bands en één van mijn favoriete producers (Trevor Horn), dat kan niet misgaan en dat gaat het ook niet. Schitterende plaat die door mijn nominatie al een aantal jaren onderdeel uitmaakt van onze top 2000. Was nog paradeplaat bij de TROS.
14) Op deze zesde single van het album Faith is George Michael een jazzy crooner. Was nog parkeerschijf bij de VARA.
15) Een uit de hand gelopen opname voor een B-kantje van George Harrison leidde tot een supergroep vol mannen die er hoorbaar plezier in hebben. Was nog speciale aanbieding bij de KRO.
