Voor mijn doen een rustig weekje met slechts vier binnenkomers.

Ten eerste Take Me Beyond van Josefin Öhrn + The Liberation, een nummer dat ik dankzij aERodynamIC in het Maak Kennis Met 2016-topic heb opgepikt. Heb het sindsdien regelmatig gedraaid en hij is me niet gaan vervelen, integendeel! Ondertussen dus eens tijd voor een plekje in mijn lijst. Misschien wat voor de liefhebbers van Turning Light van Amber Arcades? Het is niet helemaal hetzelfde, maar het heeft voor mij toch iets vergelijkbaars, dezelfde dromerigheid in combinatie met een hoop zeggingskracht.

Ordinary Life van Ezra Furman draaien ze tegenwoordig veel op BBC 6, net als Fighting For van Roots Manuva dus. Ik kende het nummer al aangezien ik het album heb mogen recenseren, en het is wat mij betreft één van de hoogtepunten van dat album (samen met Restless Year). Ontzettend knap hoe hij persoonlijke misère met een enorme knippog kan brengen. Die speels doowop-invloeden zijn ook erg leuk. Het nummer is tegelijkertijd aangrijpend en grappig, dat moet je ook maar kunnen.

Franskild stond begin vorig jaar in mijn lijst met het luchtige Falling. Deze track is echter best anders. Wat donkerder, en het geeft meer een clubgevoel weer, terwijl Falling gewoon lekker dansen op een zomers grasveld was. Dit wordt versterkt door samples waarin wordt verteld over het clubleven. 'Mish means nothing, clish means nothing, and bang means, does a tune bang or not, is it a banging tune, do you know what I mean?'

Tot slot Mizan K, of gewoon Mizan. Ik kom beide namen tegen, het is me nog niet duidelijk wat nou haar echte artiestennaam is. Ik plukte haar uit mijn discover weekly-lijst, een tijdje terug. Looking For wist op den duur wel te beklijven, met de synthesizers en zang die op speelse wijze om elkaar heen lopen. Spannende kruising tussen electronica en R&B.

09: Kollektiv Turmstrasse is een hele fijne ontdekking via Panjoe, geloof ik. Hele dikke danceplaat met een gruwelijke bassline.
10: Jessy Lanza was me al eerder opgevallen, maar deze track is wel heel erg spannend en sterk geproduceerd. Met een lichte tropische vibe.
16: Cigarettes After Sex komt met een schitterende slowcore-cover van de vreselijke Journey-power ballad.
18: Flume is wel iets voor liefhebbers van Jessy Lanza, maar dan nog ietsje dansbaarder en meer richting glitch.
25: Riton volg ik al jaren, dit is een lekkere toegankelijke dansplaat die bv. ook door Crookers gemaakt had kunnen zijn.
28: Kate Tempest's Europe Is Lost is fijne electronische UK hiphop met een alternatief randje.
30: Massive Attack is tegenwoordig 80% 100th Window en 20% Burial-invloeden. De leadtrack van hun nieuwe EP is een fijne luistertrip.
