Als een ware Dumoulin pakt The National dan uiteindelijk de eerste plek met een waanzinnig puntentotaal. Boven de 300!

Naast twee re-entries hebben we deze week ook vier kersverse nieuwe binnenkomers. Hoewel kersvers? Chromatics' Shadow komt binnen op 18, maar scoorde in 2015 al goed bij diverse mensen. Het nummer is sinds het werd gebruikt als aftitelingsmuziek bij Twin Peaks weer helemaal terug onder de aandacht. En dat is een goede keuze, want de droevige romantische muziek van Chromatics past perfect bij het Twin Peaks-universum.

Fleet Foxes' enteren de lijst met de tweede single van hun binnenkort te verschijnen comeback-album. Mooi zingen kunnen we wel aan ze overlaten en ook het nummer weet te boeien door de plotselinge tempowisseling die het refrein inluidt en het opvallende coda.

De overige twee binnenkomers komen uit Frankrijk en zijn beide fijne synthpopplaten, op hun eigen manier.
Las Aves heeft zoals 123poetertjes een tijd geleden al memoreerde wel een beetje de 'La Femme'-gekte in zich. Leuk speels nummer, een beetje als een kauwgombal die af en toe van kleur verandert. Fishbach put wat meer uit de jaren '80 en heb ik al helemaal grijsgedraaid (staat al een maand op 1 in mijn lijst). Catchy nummer met een klein donker randje. Beide nummers ga ik maar eens op een vakantieplaylistje zetten, want ik heb net de afgelopen dagen mijn vakantie naar Bretagne en Normandië uitgestippeld. Kan ik alvast in de stemming komen.

Ach, het houdt hem van de straat.

Ja, het moet natuurlijk kult zijn, het mist elk eerlijk vergelijk met welk nummer dan ook in de lijst. Waar Arcane Roots en Neptune Blue met daverende nieuwe singles aan komen zetten (hoewel, Walk away al wel een maandje uit) en Real Estate ook met zeer genietbare muziek aan komt zetten.

De nieuwe The War on Drugs:

De afgelopen weken was het vrij rustig qua nieuwe muziek; maar deze week (en vooral vandaag) plots nieuwe Alt-J, nieuwe Muse, nieuwe FooFighters, nieuwe War on Drugs en dan ook nog her en der wat leuke tips in de lijsten hier.
De top2 is ongewijzigd, nog steeds the War on Drugs en The Veils; op drie nu Thomas Azier; ik vind het echt een heel mooi liedje. Ook SnailMail kruipt nog langzaam omhoog .
De nieuwe Alt-J stijgt ook flink. Adeline komt pas na een minuut of drie op gang en daarna is het heel jammer dat het drie minuten later al afgelopen is.
De nieuwe FooFighters komt hoog binnen. Ik had er na dat vorige album niet heel hoge verwachtingen van, wellicht mede daardoor positief verrast, het is typisch FooFighters, maar dan met een twist. Ook de nieuwe van the War on Drugs is weer gewoon goed en bijna een beetje lente-achtig ipv het normale herfstachtige. Verder ook onderin het lijstje nog wat nieuwe muziek. Na drie weken in de tiplijst vind ik It's All Good toch leuk genoeg voor in de lijst, ondanks de grote concurrentie; ook de nieuwe Courtney Barnett uit de tiplijst; het zal geen hoogvlieger gaan worden, maar het is wel gewoon een goed liedje. En daar net boven: Public Service Broadcasting; het liedje stond hier al hoog in de lijstjes, toen heb ik er ook naar geluisterd en vond ik het interessant; door de eveneens interessante nieuwe single die ik hier voorbij zag komen toch weer gaan luisteren en het kwartje is gevallen; de nieuwe blijft voorlopig nog in de tiplijst hangen.

De nieuwe Arcade Fire valt me tegen. Te makkelijk, commercieel klinkend. Bombastisch. Niet dat daar iets mis is maar deze keer is het ook te lomp, met te weinig emotie of passie. Dat is mijn 1ste mening vlak na de luisterbeurt.

Ik ben (uiteraard) wel direct enthousiast. Vooral dat pianoriedeltje komt heerlijk binnen! Voor mij wel geen instant classic zoals de titelnummers van Reflektor en The Suburbs destijds, dat dan weer wel

Persoonlijk vind ik dat Everything Now akelig veel overeenkomsten heeft met het themaatje van If I can't have you van Yvonne Elliman, het pianootje van ABBA en de panfluit van Kygo...

Ik vind het een heerlijke single, ook al klinkt het wat commercieel.

De Song Van Het Jaar 2016 kende gisteren haar ontknoping, maar stiekem weten jullie allemaal dat dat maar kinderspel is vergeleken met de beste lijst van allemaal, namelijk mijn Afrekening! Maar er komt wel stevige concurrentie aan, een zeker iemand komt met een veranderde stijl direct binnen op plek 2 en ook Antistar blijft zijn draaibeurten maken. Verder een adembenemend fraaie nieuwkomer op twaalf en nog twee toffe Tippers die doorschuiven. In de Tip veel entries van lichte, zomerse nummers.

Someone - The Deep
Sneeuwpopprinses Tessa Rose Jackson is de laatste jaren ontzettend druk bezig geweest. Duetje met Newton Faulkner, zomerprojectje Copy Club, samenwerking met enkele danceproducers waaronder een volwaardige collaboratie met Pitto (leverde nog een Afrekeningkanon af) en nog wat foute filmscores. Haar laatste echte solowerk dateert echter alweer uit 2013, met nog een enkele single in 2014. Maar nu is Tessa eindelijk weer terug! En ook weer een beetje niet, want ze heeft haar naam veranderd in het zoekmachineonvriendelijke Someone. En ze heeft zich ook een beetje heruitgevonden, het is een echte stijlbreuk vergeleken met haar folky (Songs From) The Sandbox. Deze ademt vooral dreampop met vollere instrumentatie. En ik zou liegen als ik zeg dat ik de belletjes en de dumdumdums, oowooohooo’s en oeoeoeoeoeoeoeoeh’s niet een beetje mis. Paar dingen zijn hetzelfde gebleven, zoals de warme stem en simpelweg de uitonderlijk hoge kwaliteit. Wat een talent.

Aldous Harding - Imagining My Man
Net als Tessa had ik deze Nieuw-Zeelandse al dus reeds aangekondigd, dank Herman voor de tip! In de stijl van Weyes Blood en Bat For Lashes, met nog een laagje mysterie en zelfs even een kinderkoortje. Het weet mij in elk geval compleet stil te krijgen. Een ideaal nummer voor een stille nacht.

Avante Black - Make a Mess
Avante Black is een collectief met Zweedse, Britse en Italiaanse leden. Hun stijl is verder niet heel divers, gewoon zeer solide synthpop. De zanglijntjes doen erg denken aan Shura, maar dan net met wat meer power wat het een verfrissend liedje maakt.

Uitgelicht:
Devin-Jade - #CutCakes
Het gaat goed met de muziekindustrie in Portsmouth. Jerry begint al echt door te breken wat onwijs tof is, maar net zo tof is het feit dat haar opvolger eigenlijk ook al klaar staat. Devin-Jade is net zestien maar volgt eigenlijk een beetje hetzelfde traject als Williams. Akoestische gigs in de lokale muziekcafés en al enkele festivals in de regio, waar ze covers met zelfgeschreven songs afwisselt. En haar liedjes zitten ook enorm goed in elkaar, althans die paar die ik nu ken. Not Crazy bijvoorbeeld, heerlijke sneeuwpop. #CutCakes is dan weer een aparte, ze doet hier een soort poging tot rappen, wat niet helemaal lukt maar het geeft het nummer wel iets speels. En het refrein is zoooo catchy. Voor de last.fm-gebruikers onder jullie: dit is een buitenkansje om bij de Top Listeners te komen, ik ben voorlopig de enige luisteraar.

Lake - Magazine
LAKE is een lo-fi softpopbandje dat wereldwijde bekendheid heeft vergaard door hun nauwe samenwerking met het geweldige Adventure Time . En het is een goede keuze geweest, de lome zang en laid-back instrumentatie passen perfect in de sfeer van the Land of Ooo, en specifiek in de eindcredits. Hun nieuwe is exact in dezelfde stijl, en moet je eigenlijk naar luisteren al liggend in het gras. Clipje is trouwens ook leuk, maar het is vooral weer wachten op dansende BMO.

Lauran Hibberd - Favourite Shade Of Blue
Ook weer zo’n zomers popliedje. En ook weer van een Brits jonkie. Lauran is negentien en heeft een stem die heel erg doet denken aan post-Soviet Kitsch Regina Spektor en Kate Nash, en zo doen haar liedjes.

Naaz - Words
Naaz is getipt door Verweggistan. Een Nederlandse dame (jaja, ze houden maar niet op met goede liedjes maken) met Koerdische roots, met een fijn, kalm electropopnummertje. Een beetje Alice On The Roofachtig

The Aces - Baby Who
Eigenlijk is dit nummer gewoon Dog Years van Maggie Rogers, maar uiteindelijk lijken al die synthpopliedjes wel op elkaar. Ik ben ze trouwens nog altijd niet zat, maar deze Amerikanen mogen wel net wat creatiever worden willen ze mijn uiteindelijke lijst halen.
