Vorige week had ik moeite om een echte duidelijke nummer 1 aan te wijzen, deze week is het zowaar nog moeilijker. Er zijn veel goede liedjes; maar niet echt één, of een paar, die er bovenuit steekt/steken. Dus een genivelleerd lijstje deze week en dan maar gekozen voor een liedje over een lijstje op 1 en ook omdat het vanaf het begin in mijn hoofd blijft hangen (meestal duurt dat wat langer bij Tame Impala liedjes). En volgens mij is die 'piep' er bewust ingedaan, Herman, om ons, bij het wegdromen bij dit nummer, plots weer bij de les te krijgen
Nieuw uit de tiplijst is Nilufer Yanya – Baby Luv, staat op de BBC Sound of 2018 shortlist; overigens net als yaeji en ook Sam Fender uit mijn tiplijst. Billie Eilish, bekend om het feit dat Poetertjes haar niet ontdekt heeft, staat daar ook in. Inzake de casus Billie Eilish: Simpelweg zoeken op die naam in dit topic levert als eerste resultaat (14 april) een post van Poetertjes en op 18 april van AstroStart.
Dan ook nog Gus&Jim: Nu pas? Ja. Een geval Alvvays. Ik vond het wel aardig, maar niet echt bijzonder. Maar wel opgenomen in een playlist voor op het werk en toen viel het, net als Dream Tonite een paar weken geleden, plots op.

Er zijn maar weinig foto's te vinden van het jonge Zweedse talent Hannes Ferm (jawel!), nu beter bekend onder de naam Holy.

Stormachtige 30 - week 49

Hehe, eindelijk wat vernieuwing in de top. Thunder Jackson is misschien wel de grootste stijger van het jaar en schiet van plek 28 naar de tweede positie. Thunder Jackson is een nieuwe artiest en Guilty Party is zijn allereerste single. Een fraai popnummer waarbij het moeilijk is om stil te zitten.

Sufjan Stevens komt hoog binnen met Tonya Harding, een nummer over de beroemde kunstschaatser (die meehielp aan een poging om haar tegenstander uit te schakelen). "Tonya Harding, my friend. Well this world is a bitch, girl. Don’t end up in a ditch, girl. I’ll be watching you close to the end."

Dan nog even aandacht voor Anna Burch. Deze artiest moet in staat zijn om wat puntjes in andere lijsten bij elkaar te sprokkelen. Ik moet denken aan Amber Arcades, al is het liedje van Anna Burch iets poppier. De jengelende gitaren ontbreken gelukkig niet.

Enter:
24. Ik probeer normaliter geen releases van ouder dan een halfjaar te nomineren, maar voor Coffee Time, uitgekomen op vinyl in februari, maak ik een uitzondering. Ik ben de laatste tijd erg gek op house - bossanova crossovers, en deze track is een subliem voorbeeld van hoe fijn die twee genres samen gaan. Heerlijk.
29. Ikebe Showdown is een funkband uit de VS die zich laat inspireren door afrobeat. Supermoon doet wat denken aan de soundtracks van Curtis Mayfield, en dat kan natuurlijk nooit een slecht teken zijn.
34. Een goeie electrotrack van een Londense producer, die zoals de naam al suggereert klinkt alsof hij uit Frankrijk komt. De nostalgische synths stelen de show wat mij betreft.
38. Ik ben er nog niet helemaal uit of ik deze remix zo geslaagd vind. Misschien heeft Soulwax iets te veel respect gehad voor het origineel, want ik heb het idee dat hij nog een stuk harder had kunnen knallen. Met de stijl van Soulwax had het een echte ruige nu-disco clubbanger kunnen worden. Toch een leuke interpretatie van een fantastisch nummer.
39. Typische Juan Maclean track uit het lijstje van herman. De drums, bass en pianostabs zijn een beetje dertien-in-een-dozijn, maar de subtiele acidsynths die in de laatste akte doorbreken redden het geheel.
40. Geen fantastische protesttrack van Os Mutantes, maar ik ben de laatste tijd gek van Tropicália en daarom gun ik ze toch een plekje in de spotlight.

De nieuwe single van First Aid Kit gaat hier hoog binnenkomen.

Week 49, 2016. Een zekere Jerry Williams debuteert met Mother in mijn lijst, een fijn vrolijk popliedje. Een uitgelicht krijgt ze echter niet en na drie weken in de Tip wordt Mother nét te licht bevonden voor mijn hoofdlijst. Fast forward exact een jaar en inmiddels is Jerry de meest dominante muzikale factor in mijn leven en heeft ze met Grab Life al haar tweede multiklapper van mijn Afrekening te pakken. Vanavond ga ik haar live zien aaaaaah! De rest van het podium is deze week trouwens net zo ongewijzigd als de afgelopen drie weken: Eliza op twee en I Want op drie. Wel is er aansluiting gekomen met het podium in de vorm van Yotto; North is een ultieme kille sneeuwstamper waar ik maar geen genoeg van krijg. Ook Home stijgt weer fors in wat al de zestiende week is. Had Jerry niet bestaan dan was ik vermoedelijk nu helemaal voor Alice Jemima gevallen met haar schattige kuiltjeswangen en haar charmante verlegenheid. Verder twee fijne dromerige binnenkomers.

- Prins Thomas: lekker lange instrumentale scandidisco; de beat die er 1:04 doet me denken aan Nelly's Hot in Herre;
- Djrum: melodieus beatsfestijn, met wat drum&bass-invloeden, fijne ontdekking via Panjoe;
- The Horrors: helaas geen echte iconische singles a la Moving Further Away of Still Life van het laatste album, maar het blijft prettige muziek;
- John Legend: mooie cover van de klassieke song. Wel vrij glad, maar JL kan ook gewoon wel erg goed zingen.
