Kon gisteren geen stukjes meeleveren en kan m’n post niet meer aanpassen, dus plaats ik hem even opnieuw. Dit is dus níet de lijst van week 18.

Voor de verandering een keer een lijstje ná de deadline. Van donderdag tot en met zondag geen internet gezien dus wat muziek betreft ben ik deze week nogal afhankelijk geweest van een kleine Spotify-reislijst en alles wat de Madrileense kroegen en met name karaokebar Laser te bieden hadden (T'ERES AAAAAAAAAAAAIILGOOOOOOOO). Bij terugkomst toch nog het één en ander bij bepaalde lijstjes weggevist en daar zit goed spul tussen. Mijn drie nieuwkomers zijn logischerwijs wel allemaal uit mijn eigen Tip afkomstig.
Just to get things straight: mijn nummer één is nog altijd niet veranderd, de andere twee stekjes van mijn podium zijn omgewisseld. La Femme stijgt veel, Kasabian daalt veel en Kite Base waait er na één week weer uit. Kate Tempest moet twee weken voor het passeren van de Beauvengrens het spreekwoordelijke loodje leggen.

Uit het lijstje van AstroStart (tevens de daadwérkelijke ontdekker van Billie Eilish) en Verweggistan (die dacht dat ik dat was, de vleier ) een zijprojectje van die andere van Balthazar, nadat Maarten Devoldere al als Warhaus teen en tander solo heeft gedaan. In beide gevallen zijn de invloeden van hun vaderband duidelijk te horen, waarbij ik die van Jinte nog wat fijner vind dan Warhaus. De lijzige zang en de strijkers blijven een goede combi.

Loyle Carner ft. Tom Misch - Damselfly
De nummers die ik ken van Benjamin Coyle-Larner bevallen me eigenlijk allemaal wel, dus het wordt eens tijd om zijn album te gaan beluisteren. No CD heeft al een paar weken in mijn lijst gestaan en na maximale drie weken Tippen is zijn nieuwste nummer dan eindelijk ook aan de beurt. In zijn rust en relaxtheid is Damselfly onovertroffen.

Estrons - Strobe Lights
Estrons heeft in die enorme poel van female fronted punky rockbandjes (ze prefereren zelf de term heavy pop een behoorlijk herkenbaar geluid erin gekregen, wat an sich best knap is. Je kan ook de andere kant op redeneren en zeggen dat hun nummers allemaal wel een beetje op elkaar lijken, dit is bijvoorbeeld bijna een heruitgave van Belfast. Of ik een heel album van hen ga trekken weet ik dus nog niet, maar zolang ze hun nummers los uitbrengen is het allemaal prima te doen. Het blijft namelijk enorm opzwepend, en haar manier van screeuwpraatzingen bevalt me enorm goed. En u eens een keer een clipje maken bitte.

Ibibio Sound Machine - Give Me a Reason
Dat ik met Marie Davidson vrij laat was weet ik nu wel . Maar er is altijd een overtreffende trap: deze heb ik na elf weken eindelijk uit het lijstje van panjoe geplukt en komende week ongetwijfeld te bewonderen in mijn hoofdlijst. Dit Brits-Nigeriaanse achttal is toch wel heel erg fijn. Voor wie Jessy Lanza te gek vindt, hier heeft u de warmere variant met allerhande Afrikaanse invloeden.

Meg Mac - Low Blows
In tegenstelling tot die andere Meg weet deze Australische zich nog niet echt te onderscheiden maar het is wel gewoon een fijn popnummertje dat op de één of andere manier wel verslavend werkt. En ze heeft een prima, superheldere stem.

Natalia Lafourcade - Te Vi Pasar
Voor mijn Spaanse tripje moest er natuurlijk nog iets Spaanstaligs in. Dus kwam ik weer terecht bij de Mexicaanse dame die een tijdje terug nog in m’n Tipafrekening had gestaan. Lekker licht, zwoel en zomers, vooral wanneer ze ongeveer 1:40 in begint te fluisteren.

Onyx & Dope D.O.D. - XXX
Poeha is back en meteen met wat toffe nummers. De k-popinbreng kende ik al van Sfeermaker maar haalt het hier net niet. Deze daarentegen… Deze gasten gaan blijkbaar al sinds 1988 mee en zijn dus nog ouder dan hun kronkelende naamgenoot. Maar je kan zeker niet zeggen dat ze wat van hun energie zijn verloren, integendeel. Dit nummer gaat gewoon ontzettend hard. Retelekkere schreeuwhiphop. Dope shit enzo.

Treffende vergelijking! Bij dezen neem ik me meteen voor om dieper in Russells discodiscografie te duiken!

The War on Drugs gaat mij niet wijsmaken, dat Thinking of a Place niet beter en korter had gekund als we het eens zouden terug klokken naar 4 minuten. Ik wil niet veel zeggen, maar ik vind 11 minuten plus voor dit nummer heel eerlijk gezegd een beetje aanstellerij.

Dan van 2 tracks geen youtube: van de nieuwe Deep Purple niet en ook niet van Car Seat Headrest. Gelukkig heb ik dan beide albums op cd maar wel jammer dat hier ergens een kink in de kabel zit. Vreemd sowieso, beide bands plaatsten eerdere singles wél gewoon op youtube. Is er iets gebeurd dat ik niet weet?

Van Styx heb ik stiekem wel eens gelezen dat de band door "buurjongetjes" is opgericht in 1961. Daar zou dan bassist Chuck Panozzo nog weet van moeten hebben gehad (2e van links), James Young (4e van links) is later gerekruteerd maar speelt al vanaf het eerste album (1972) mee. Tommy Shaw, tussen hen in, zit sinds 1976 bij de band.

Dat gezegd hebbende, kunnen ze nog (dezelfde) herrie maken alsof ze begin 20 zijn.

King Creosote voor de derde week op #1, nog immer prachtig.
Hoogste binnenkomer is van Syml, nummer komt uit 2016, maar in maart is er pas een video verschenen, erg mooi.
Future Islands en Slowdive heb ik net als 'Systemagic' van Goldfrapp uit de diverse lijstjes alhier. 'Moon In Your Mouth' van Goldfrapp bij mij op #10, al vraag ik me af of dit wel een officiele single is, volgens mij heb ik dat wel ergens gelezen. Dan Auerbach kennen we van The Black Keys en ook Klangstof komt binnen met een wat oudere plaat, die de laatste weken op Radio2 veel airplay heeft gekregen. Hekkensluiter van First Aid Kit, heeft lang geduurd, maar uiteindelijk toch in de lijst.

Oei, deze is helemaal langs ons gegaan - of, in ieder geval, langs mij. Wat hou ik er toch van als Four Tet op de dansvloer gerichte, maar toch compleet leftfield clubbangers maakt. Met de UK garage vibe maakt hij een absolute knalplaat van deze nooit gereleasete Todd Terje track.

De nieuwe single van LCD Soundsystem al gehoord? Zowel Call The Police als American Dream zijn dikke aanraders! Voor nu komt het meer up tempo Call The Police bij me binnen, maar het zou me niet verbazen als ook het wat rustigere American Dream het tot een grote hit weet te schoppen in mijn lijst!

Ook mijn nieuwe nummer 15 wil ik nog even kort onder de aandacht brengen: heerlijke afrobeat (what's in a name?), de tijden van Fela Kuti herleven! herman en panjoe, bedankt voor de ontdekking!

Weer een aantal heerlijke nieuwe binnenkomers deze week.

2. Algiers bevestigt zich als uitstekende band. Het nummer The Underside of Power blinkt uit met een geweldige drive.
8. Mercury is een nummer wat blijkbaar al 5 jaar oud is. Vooral door de heer Stevens en de kwetsbaarheid in zijn stem, is dit een aanrader. Had niet misstaan op een album van Sufjan zelf.
9. Falling for You is vermoedelijk geen single. Niettemin raad ik het aan en is via YouTube het gehele album te beluisteren. Een traag en weemoedig nummer, ideaal voor een verloren avond.
10. Ik heb mij nooit echt verdiept in de muziek van LCD Soundsystem. Maar zowel Call the Police als American Dream zijn niets minder dan fantastisch. Ik hoor een urgentie in de tekst en melodie die ik ook zo kan waarderen van Arcade Fire.

Nieuw werk van LCD soundsystem! Super!!
Had ik zonder dit topic waarschijnlijk ook wel eens ontdekt (over 1 jaartje waarschijnlijk), maar ArthurDZ duwde mij gisteren met mijn neus in de boter! Blij mee.
Voorlopig bevalt "Call the Police" mij nog iets beter dan "American dream", maar de kans is groot dat die volgende week ook wel bij mij gaat binnenkomen.

Het youtube filmpje van het optreden bij Saturday Night Live is trouwens hilarisch.
Zijn kapsel is briljant, maar dat ben je spontaan vergeten als je die jongen achter hem ziet los gaan.
Ik zou willen dat ik zulke moves had.

Stelletje brutale Engelsen die een lekker potje gitaarwerk neerzetten. Hun tweede album staat vol met hits, tenminste in mijn lijst. Ze hadden me al te pakken met "Wake Up" en "Fire That Burns" en nu dus ook met "Goodbye", terwijl een vierde track al weer staat te trappelen.

John Mayer - Moving On and Getting Over (17)
Tsja, het is totaal niet spannend, maar zó lekker relaxed en laid-back. Mayer weet weer een onweerstaanbaar sfeertje neer te zetten.

JMSN - Where Do U Go (18)
JMSN, spreek uit: Jameson, is de Amerikaan Christian Berishaj. De track "Where Do U Go" doet mij qua gitaren en strijkers denken aan Portishead, maar gaat vervolgens toch een iets soulfuller kant op. Prima singer/ songwriter.
