Dream Theater op hun best met een nummer waar ik, toen ik het voor het eerst hoorde, echt stijl van achterover sloeg. Er zit zoveel in. Was ook vrij verrassend, voor mij, toen het uitkwam. Verwijzingen naar films van Robin Williams (wiens humor ik zeer mis) en een drive van muziek die nergens verveeld.

Dat de ene Genesis de andere Genesis niet is blijkt hier maar weer. En dan toch twee zeer sterke nummers. Ik vind Calling all Stations een top nummer (en album) maar kan net niet op tegen de muzikale en tekstuele waanzin van Epping Forest. En de humor van Gabriel.. Ergens zijn dit gewoon twee verschillende bands met dezelfde naam.

Veel grote namen met mindere nummers vandaag. Dan pakt een van Dream Theaters meer iconische nummers de maximumscore en het definitieve visitekaartje van Porcupine Trees metalkant staat ook nog altijd goed overeind. Eigenlijk is de koek daarna al op. Calling All Stations is verre van een slecht Genesisalbum, maar het titelnummer mist focus en heeft een raar random einde. In arren moede daar toch maar het laatste puntje heen, want hoewel ik mezelf toch ook een redelijk echte Genesisfan noem, vind ik dat Epping Forest ook maar een warrig nummer dat... tja... focus mist. Dat Karmakanic er zijn naam aan ontleent is dan wel weer een leuk feitje voor een progpubquiz, mochten we die ooit nog beleven.

Voorzie ellenlange discussies over alleen al de consumptieprijzen.
