Ik heb echt moeite met progmetal gekregen. Het voelt zo claustrofobisch. En dat is helemaal persoonlijk. Doet niets af aan de muziek, wat vaak ontzettend technisch en knap is. Ik voel er alleen niets (meer) bij. Ik luisterde wel veel naar dat subgenre, en had ook echt gedoodverfde favorieten, maar als ik dit allemaal zo terughoor, valt me de ruimte en rust van Gazpacho weer eens op. Een band die ik wat uit het oor was verloren. Misschien maar weer eens terugluisteren.

Eloy en the Crim zijn goud, en deze van Porcupine Tree is alleraardigst. Geen idee waar het nummer over gaat, maar het voelt ook alsof je in een trein zit.

Wat Mssr Renard zegt over progmetal begrijp ik wel. Ik mis soms ook de rust in de muziek. Al vind ik ook dat Gazpacho dat onderdeel soms wel erg tot kunst probeert te verheffen. Ik vind dat Dream Theater hier toch wel een knap nummer heeft afgeleverd, waar ik wel waardering voor heb.

Anyway, mijn tien centen zijn verdeeld.

Als je niet van progmetal houdt zou het de keuzes wel een stuk gemakkelijker maken, denk ik. Want dit is een bijzonder sterke ladder. Want 'helaas' houd ik niet alleen van progmetal. Ik kom dus punten tekort. Porcupine Tree en Dream Theater hadden in menige ladder minimaal drie punten gepakt.
