5 keer Beautiful Freak en 5 keer Electro-Shock Blues. Eind '96 hoorde ik per ongeluk Beautiful Freak op de radio en viste ik de gelijknamige CD uit de uitverkoopbakken. Niemand had ooit van Eels gehoord, maar een jaar later kwam er dan toch nog een doorbraak. Eels was voor mij in de periode 96-99 één van mijn allerdierbaarste bandjes, maar daarna kwam Daisies for the Galaxy uit en verloor ik al snel mijn interesse. Tot dan toe had ik alles verzameld: moeilijk te krijgen solowerk van E, singles, promo's, etc. Volgens mij heb ik zelfs nog ergens een teepje met pornomuziek van Butch en liveopnamen met Jon Brion in de Largo. Heb de albums na Daisies vaak nog wel geprobeerd, maar het doet me niets meer eigenlijk.

Ik ken geen andere band waarvan het verval van mijn interesse erin zo enorm groot is geweest. Nu luister ik nooit meer Eels, maar die heel enkele keer kan ik nog wel erg genieten van de eerste twee albums.

Opvallend overigens dat Cancer for the Cure niet in de startlijst stond. Is met Last Stop: This Town toch wel de single/meest bekende track van ESB. Hopelijk wordt ie vaak genoeg genoemd door de rest, ik heb de andere lijstjes nog niet bekeken.

Ik ben een beginner wat Wilco betreft, maar die Greatest Hits heeft zeker mijn interesse.

Pff.... dit is lastig. Aangezien ik de eerste 4 op cd heb, hebben die een voorsprong. (Eigenlijk de eerste 5, maar die laatste is compleet ruk.) Vooral Electro Shock Blues & Daisies of the Galaxy zijn er fijn. Die twee albums heb ik derhalve dan ook gespaard.

Moeilijk om te kiezen, P.S You Rock My World is misschien niet het beste individuele nummer, maar de wijze waarop het Electro-Shock Blues afsluit is weergaloos. Na al die ellende recht Mr. E toch weer zijn rug. Een nummer waar iedere depressieve ziel zich kan aan optrekken.
