Technisch geen heel ingewikkelde exercitie, wegens mijn erg succesvolle eerste ronde (19 van de aangevinkte nummers door). Eén van de niet aangevinkte nummers krijgt het genadebrood. Heb getwijfeld over Bon Jovi (enerzijds: vond ik indertijd toch wel echt goed; anderzijds: is in retrospectief toch wel een tragisch kantelpunt in de carrière van de band). Dat rare Haagse dancenummer uit de carnavalsperiode dan maar...

Jammer dat het flauwe No Limits wel de finale haalde, maar The Real Thing wat 3 klassen beter is niet. Had van mij 20 punten gehad.
Verder moet ik bij 7 Seconds vooral aan mijn eerste vakantiewerk en kennismaking met Sky Radio draaide. Destijds draaide ze daar dit nummer elk uur, dus ik was het al snel zat... Cranberries vond ik in die tijd helemaal geweldig, maar nu niet veel meer aan en Zombie nog de minste van hun hitsingles.
Ook Bruce en Crash Test Dummies vond ik toen schitterend, maar hoef ik nu ook niet meer te horen.
Doop en D:Ream daarentegen word ik nog altijd erg vrolijk van.

Als vrolijk een eufemisme is van krankzinnig, kan ik je volgen.

D:Rream: ik had geen cent ingezet op een finaleplaats en kijk nu.
Was het in Nederland misschien een grote hit (alleszins geen top 3)?

In Vlaanderen maar een middenmoot, maar uiteraard een topper in de UK.
Things Can Only Get Better stemt mij vrolijk, zonder krankzinnig te bedoelen.

In Nederland kwam ie tot 31 ofzo, gok ik/staat me bij. In Engeland had hij ook nog een hitje met U R The Best Thing, maar dat deed in Nederland niets denk ik.

Het nummer kreeg eind jaren 90 een tweede leven als het lied waarmee Tony Blair de Tories eindelijk uit Downing Street 10 verdreef. Dat heeft wellicht ook meegespeeld.

De kwaliteit van dit nummer had wat dat betreft misschien een voorbode kunnen zijn, maar dat terzijde.

1994... Het jaar dat ik met een groep gasten op vakantie was in het pittoreske Lloret de Mar, vanuit deze lijst was het vooral Mo-Do die veel voorbij kwam in de discotheken, helaas mis ik Marusha in deze. D:Ream was wel in mijn straatje, ik kocht de cd-single van U R the Best Thing en later ook de hele CD. Verder vind ik best jammer dat East 17 het net niet gehaald heb. Best een leuk nummer van deze groep die van de boybands toch (ondanks de coverhit West end Girls) wel de betere was.

Voor mij niet maar ik kan goed begrijpen dat die stem niet bij iedereen in de smaak valt.

21 jaar na dato heeft Zombie eigenlijk alleen maar aan kracht gewonnen, dus de nummer 1 was niet al te ingewikkeld. En als de stem van Brad Roberts een love-hate is, dan zit ik duidelijk aan de love-kant, jammer dat ze voor het album verder zo weinig deugdelijk songmateriaal bij elkaar kregen.

Ik treur enigszins mee over het uitvallen van 2 Unlimited, maar veel meer nog over het uitvallen van die andere Real Thing, die hier zeker in de topdrie gestaan had. Anderzijds is bij herbeluistering D:Ream een redelijke vervanger daarvan.

Eins Zwei Polizei is de zomerhit die ik indertijd snel richting nummer 1 zag vliegen. Nou, vooruit, voordat Mo-Do zijn verdiende nummer 1 plek haalt, mag die Marco Borsato eerst nog even een weekje op 1. Tja, we weten wat daarvan gekomen is.

Ja, kan me nog wel herinneren dat ie in Engeland binnenkwam, daar was het echt een hele dikke hit (anders deed ie hier ook niet mee). Dacht eigenlijk zelfs dat ie op 1 binnenkwam.
