Dat alles doet natuurlijk geen milimeter af aan hun onpeilbare reputatie in Nederland.
Als levende band uit hetzelfde kraambed als de nummer 5 van deze editie.

In 1982 zouden ze de Billboard top 10 nog eens verblijden met Twilight Zone.

Ik vond niet meteen een clip uit 1973 van deze zingende dame
die met de jaren toch wel verdacht veel op Mick Jagger is gaan lijken.

Vrouw aan piano, het is een beeld van alle tijden en levert wel eens een hit op.
Van Cahi Coltrane en Carly Simon over Stevie Nicksl tot aan Tori Amos en Regina Spektor.

Uiteraard verklapt Carly de identiteit van haar risee niet.
Want dat zou net de hele pointe uit deze prachtsong weghalen.
Nu mag elk ijdelhoofd denken dat het over hem gaat.

Ik geef toe dat het moeilijk is om er meer te hebben dan Stevie.

Slechts 18 platen die ik graag nog eens hoor, om toch aan de 20 te komen Charles Aznavour en Barbra Streisand er bij gedaan (beetje twijfelgevallen). Deze keer voor het eerst sinds 1965 geen een nummer dat ik helamaal geweldig vind. Wel veel aardige tot heel aardige nummers (ja, ben beetje verwend). T.S.O.P. is de eerste hit die ik disco zou noemen, een stijl die we de "komende" 5 a 10 jaar nog veel tegen gaan komen.

Nog geen handvol echt goeie songs, en dan heel veel leuke, tijdsbepalende hits zonder veel eeuwigheidswaarde (dat is althans mijn mening).

De mijne ook! Terwijl dat voorgaande jaren toch anders was, de een na de andere klassieker. Je zou toch zeggen, over de hele wereld gebeurt altijd van alles, bijzonder en gewoontjes, en gemiddeld is er per jaar weinig verschil. Nee, het lijkt toch alsof vooral eind jaren 60 begin jaren 70 bijzonder veel inspiratie op de plaat werd gevangen. Of is dat mijn subjectieve ervaring?

Ik vind deze lijst best meevallen. Natuurlijk wat minder dan de jaren 1965-1970 maar het aantal sterke songs voor de eeuwigheid is hier nog duidelijk in de meerderheid. Dat zal met verloop van de jaren steeds minder het geval worden.

Ben het met je eens, maar zou dat nou objectief zijn? Als wij over 30 jaar ouwe lullen zijn en de zoon van Dazzler weer een Greatest Hits doet dan blijken misschioen de jaren 90 of 00 de topjaren, en de 60s en 70s alleen voor bejaarden...

In elk (hit)jaar zijn er songs voor de eeuwigheid alsook wegwerphits. Deze nummers zijn nu 40 jaar oud, akkoord, maar de meeste hierop (niet allemaal) klinken nu nog steeds prima en hebben niets van hun pluimen verloren. Kwaliteit overleeft steeds de ouderdom.

De eerste helft van de jaren 70 worden gedomineerd door albumartiesten.
Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin en Pink Floyd om er maar een paar te noemen.

Maar ik vind 1974 toch een beter jaar dan 1973 of 1972.

Amerika trekt steeds meer de kaart van de ballads en musical (Barbra Streisand).
De souldagen zijn over, de country rock is daar, maar niet sterk genoeg in de top van de lijsten.
Eigenlijk zijn die laatste (Eagles etc...) ook weer album artiesten.

Het is wachten op de disco, maar dat zal wellicht ook tijdsgebonden gevonden worden.

Dit keer een duidelijke afscheiding (geen ex aequo's).
