Artiesten KO Fish

De goede man is de laatste periode regelmatig in het nieuws en daarom is de KO eigenlijk precies op tijd. Eind vorige week was het precies 30 jaar geleden dat het meesterwerk Vigil in a Wilderness of Mirrors uitkwam. Zijn eerste solo-album na zijn turbulente vertrek vanuit Marillion. Of deze plaat dan ook de winnaar in zich heeft gaan we de komende periode uitmaken. Ik heb de 40 beste, bekendste en populairste liedjes uitgezocht en daarmee gaan we aan de slag. De albums met zowel hoger in gemiddelde als in aantal stemmen leveren ook meer kandidaten. Geen samenwerkingen met bv Ayreon, Jeff Wayne of Tony Banks maar alles vanuit zijn solowerk. Ook geen (her)bewerkte Marillion nummers.

Hieronder staan de 40 uitverkoren liedjes, we spelen in KO vorm en gaan van 40 naar 20, naar 10, naar 5 en daarmee spelen we de finalepoule.

Yep, in ieder geval de enige die de Top 40 heeft gehaald. Brother 52 haalde de Top 100 ook nog wel maar dat is het dan denk ik wel. Credo had natuurlijk wel gewoon een enorme hit moeten worden maar ja...

B-kantje van Credo (Carnival Man, als ik me goed herinner) was ook een waanzinnige song, trouwens.
Ik raak wat overenthousiast, merk ik al. Vigil staat al te blazen op de koptelefoons in elk geval.

Ja ik moet me daar bij aansluiten, What Colour had menige battle gewonnen maar deze helaas niet.

Dank Bonk voor de Beach Boys. Nu verder met Fish. If all in life were that easy...

Fish ging, toch meer dan veel progcollega's, al snel zijn eigen weg. Loffelijk, maar What Colour Is God herinnert mij eraan dat hij mij daarmee toch wel regelmatig kwijtraakte. Hopelijk heeft de KO ook wat positieve verrassingen in petto.

En ik denk dat we ook rustig tot de 5 zouden kunnen.

Ik zou er ook wel voor zijn, om de stemming in ieder geval een bepaalde tijd open te laten. Dan heeft iedereen de kans om te stemmen. Bij the beach boys heb ik door de snelheid bijna alles gemist.

Wie ben ik om dat tegen te spreken, dus laten we dat doen. Klein aandachtspunt is wel dat er nu een hele bekende bij zit en het daardoor wellicht makkelijker stemmen is ipv 2 relatief onbekende tracks.

Dat 'risico' zit er in. Anderzijds waren we nu binnen het half uur klaar. Met wat meer trage battles moet het alsnog gek lopen willen we (met een beetje consequent toepassen van de 24-uursregel) niet binnen een maand klaar zijn. Voor een beetje doorlooptijd moet je ook niet te bang zijn.

Een prachtig intro van good old Mickey Simmonds met daarna een redelijk absurde overgang naar de gitaarriff van Steven Wilson, het is even wennen zal ik maar zeggen. De zanglijnen en refrein pakken me dan gelijk weer in tegen een loodzwaar maar schitterend stuk vanuit een prachtig conceptalbum.
