Mijn adjectief doelde uiteraard op het feit dat de gedoodverfde nummer 1 slechts 3e stond

Ik vond zondag al dat Nick het zo goed deed. En toen stond ie nog niet eens op het podium. En daar voelt hij zich toch thuis. Dus eenmaal daar, werd hij ongedeeld frontman.

Het zesde album van Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is de meest happy plaat van hem tot dan toe. En blijkbaar worden wij daar ook blij van.
'88 gaf al een stijging in zijn populariteit weer met een top 10 (10) plek, maar het betreffende album, Tender Prey, was donker en intens. Indertijd was men niet geheel content met de meer relaxte Cave, maar heden ten dage wordt The Good Son hoog aangeslagen.
Voorafgegaan door single The Ship song verscheen dit album april 1990, opgenomen in Brazilië (São Paulo) met de nog niet zo bekende producer Victor Van Vugt (van Claw Boys Claw's Crack My Nut). Het mixwerk werd nadien door Flood gedaan, toen deze klaar was met Violator...

De stemming van Cave werd destijds ingegeven door de verliefdheid op (later) zijn eerste vrouw, Braziliaans journaliste Viviane Carneiro, moeder van zijn eerste zoon Luke. Daarnaast was hij net uit rehab en clean.
Een latere bespiegeling van de man zelf: "I guess The Good Son is some kind of reflection of the way I felt early on in Brazil. I was quite happy there. I was in love and the first year or two was good. The problem I found was... in order to survive you have to adopt their attitudes towards everything, which are kind of blinkered."

Een van de beste Caves, toch (net) niet in mijn lijst. Dat komt toch nog wel….

Ah, dan had ik je verkeerd begrepen.

Kolere..verrassend zeg voor n redelijk goede..maar geen meesterlijke Cave!
