“We’re doing a thing called “Orphans,” a lot of songs that fell behind the stove while making dinner, about 60 tunes that we collected. Some are from films, some from compilations. Some is stuff that didn’t fit on a record, things I recorded in the garage with kids. Oddball things, orphaned tunes.”

Ik weet niet of deze al genoemd zijn (heb het topic niet doorgelezen) maar Amon Amarth en Manowar komen binnenkort allbei met een nieuw album.

Drag City is set to release the new album from Joanna Newsom, Ys (pronounced ‘eees’), available nationwide on November 14, 2006. It’s been two-and-a-half years since Joanna’s Drag City debut, The Milk-Eyed Mender, captured the hearts of fans and critics with its lilting harp and vocal majesty. On Ys, Joanna has recorded five (yup, 5!) songs clocking in at fifty-five minutes. The album was recorded with Steve Albini, mixed with Jim O’Rourke, and features orchestral arrangements from the legendary Van Dyke Parks.
On Ys, you will hear a dream collaboration between Joanna’s voice, her harp, and a full orchestra. The album is a ride that ebbs and flows in a scrumptious cacophony of layers and drama. Xela - The Dead Sea (Type Records)
(ergens eind oktober, datum is mij niet geheel bekend)
Iets totaal anders dan zijn albums met post-rock influenced idm of anders om...maar heuse folktronica in de beste stijl.
Ik heb van meneer Xela een promo gekregen en ik kan zeggen dat dit een hele mooi plaat is geworden.

Bijzonder goed nieuws voor alle Animal Collective liefhebbers:
Animal Collective Plan Live Box, EP, Tour
It must be mating season, because Animal Collective have a number of musical babies on the way. Dave Portner (aka Avey Tare) let fans at the Collected Animals forums in on a special band update yesterday, and we have since received confirmation that "wheeter" is in fact the real Portner, so on with the news.
First up is an Australian tour EP, which will feature "People", "Tikwid", "My Favorite Colors", and "People" (live) and will be available during the band's Down Under trek in November. It's possible that the project might see worldwide release, but plans are still up in the air.
The group is shooting to have its long-awaited live box set fully sequenced and mastered by the end of the month. It will be released via Catsup Plate Records, and will likely include three LPs of material packed to the brim with Sung Tongs songs and other pre-Feels material. Not only that, but Animal Collective is "starting to film for a very special release next year," according to their manager.
While we're on the topic of the live recordings, we'd like to remind you that Animal Collective will drop a reissue of the very rare Hollinndagain LP this Halloween via the band's own label, Paw Tracks.
Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) just finished recording a nine-song record, set for release in the winter 2007. There might be a tour around that time, too. The tunes will be divided up into three EPs. A 12", Bros should be out by the end of this year, with a Paw Tracks EP following shortly after. Panda Bear will also be featured on a split with Excepter, due this January on...you guessed it, Paw Tracks.
Portner also recently recorded a track for a forthcoming compilation of bands that have recorded at Brooklyn's Rare Book Room studio.

Op Carparck Records zit er een interessante dvd aan te komen van multimedia artiest Takagi Masakatsu. Hij maakt niet alleen mooie muziek, maar ook prachtige animaties gebruikmakend van videobeelden waarover hij zijn tekeningen maakt. In beweging en in combinatie met zijn muziek ziet het er heel indrukwekkend uit. Hij heeft ook een clip gemaakt op deze manier voor UA waarvan je een stukje kunt zien via onderstaande link. De dvd (die in 2003 al in Japan verscheen) komt op 14 november uit en zal “World Is So Beautiful” gaan heten.
Hier staat een filmpje waarin je een indruk kunt krijgen van zijn werk, je moet alleen wel even om alle Apple worship heen kijken....

Goeie goden, de clip is voor Lightning, van het album Sun, de nummer 2 in m'n top 10 (en toekomstig nummer 1, vermoed ik)! Hulde, bubba.
Tevens is deze Masakatsu supertip, wat mij betreft - het ziet er allemaal geweldig uit, moet ik zeggen, en klinkt ook erg goed!

Het nummer Running The World is te horen in de film Children Of Men, met Michael Caine en Clive Owen, die afgelopen week in première ging. Het is nog niet duidelijk of het betreffende nummer ook op zijn soloplaat

'New' Beatles album set for release
A "new" album of Beatles music mixed by their legendary producer George Martin and described as a new "way of reliving the whole Beatles musical lifespan", will be released in November.
EMI Music and Apple Corps Ltd say Martin and his son Giles began work on the album, called Love, after getting permission from Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, and Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison representing John Lennon and George Harrison.
The music has already been used as the soundtrack to the theatrical Cirque du Soleil show called Love. "This music was designed for the Love show in Las Vegas but in doing so we've created a new Beatles album," George Martin said in a statement. "The Beatles always looked for other ways of expressing themselves and this is another step forward for them.
"What people will be hearing on the album is a new experience, a way of re-living the whole Beatles musical lifespan in a very condensed period."
The Martins worked from the original master tapes from the Abbey Road studios to produce a medley of Beatles music by remixing favourite songs, such as Harrison's Within You Without You being played to the drum-track of Tomorrow Never Knows.
EMI Music says the album would be released worldwide in November.
Additional information such as the track listing will be released later.

Lost In Translation star Scarlett Johansson has signed a deal to make her first record, Scarlett Sings Tom Waits, according to media reports in the US. The album is being recorded at the moment and sessions will continue through the winter, with a possible release next spring from Rhino Records' currently re-activated Atco label. According to Fox News, the 21-year-old is recording a whole album of songs by premier singer/songwriter Waits. Sources says the eventual release date will be coordinated to coincide with Johansson's movie schedule.

Blijkbaar lang geleden toen Nick Cave nog jong en bezonnen was. Speelde hij in een band genaamd: Grinderman. Nu hebben Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos besloten nummers in die tijd geschreven alsnog op cd te zetten. En zal in maart 2007 verschijnen.

Megadeth komt begin volgend jaar met een nieuw album, United Abominations genaamd.

* Testament is bezig met nummers te schrijven voor een nieuw album, dat naar alle waarschijnlijk in het voorjaar van 2007 uit zal komen. * Annihilator is bijna klaar met het opnemen van hun nieuwe album, dat waarschijnlijk eind dit jaar al uit zal komen. Volgens mij heeft zanger Dave Padden ook meegeschreven en heeft hij ook een van de twee gitaren mee opgenomen. Mike Mangini zal drummen.
* Ik wacht nog steeds 'geduldig' op nieuws van een nieuw AC/DC album (waar ze schijnbaar als 3/4 jaar mee bezig zijn).
* En last but not least: Judas Priest is bezig met een nieuw album (al sinds april, maar ik zag het hier nergens staan). Release-datum is nog niet bekend, maar wel is het bekend dat het conceptalbum zal worden over het leven van Nostradamus. In een interview met MTV2 zei Rob Halfrod:
In addition to digging new lyrical ground for the band, the album will contain musical elements that might surprise their fans. "It's going to have a lot of depth," the singer explained. "There'll be a lot of symphonic elements. We might orchestrate it, without it being overblown. There may be a massive choir at parts and keyboards will be featured more prominently, whereas they've always been in the background before."

* Annihilator is bijna klaar met het opnemen van hun nieuwe album, dat waarschijnlijk eind dit jaar al uit zal komen. Volgens mij heeft zanger Dave Padden ook meegeschreven en heeft hij ook een van de twee gitaren mee opgenomen. Mike Mangini zal drummen.
* Ik wacht nog steeds 'geduldig' op nieuws van een nieuw AC/DC album (waar ze schijnbaar als 3/4 jaar mee bezig zijn).
* En last but not least: Judas Priest is bezig met een nieuw album (al sinds april, maar ik zag het hier nergens staan). Release-datum is nog niet bekend, maar wel is het bekend dat het conceptalbum zal worden over het leven van Nostradamus. In een interview met MTV2 zei Rob Halfrod:
In addition to digging new lyrical ground for the band, the album will contain musical elements that might surprise their fans. "It's going to have a lot of depth," the singer explained. "There'll be a lot of symphonic elements. We might orchestrate it, without it being overblown. There may be a massive choir at parts and keyboards will be featured more prominently, whereas they've always been in the background before."

The album was produced by Radiohead collaborator Nigel Godrich.
According to Billboard, 'Pocket Symphony', which also includes vocals from The Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon, heavily features Asian classical instruments, such as the koto and the shamisen.
