Weinig gele kaarten, trouwens.

Holland edge past Uruguay to secure their 3rd world cup final spot
Footballfans,
After 32 years Holland is back in the World Cup final beating Uruguay, but what a difficult match it was.
Cheered on by an army of Oranje fans, Holland struggle to find their feet in the early stages. After the opening it was, out of nothing, Giovanni van Bronckhorst scoring one of the goals of the tournament. From 35 yards the 35-year-old Holland captain conjured up an absolute screamer, sending a stunning left-foot drive into the top corner, just flicking the fingertips of Fernando Muslera on its way into the postage stamp. Magnificent.
But strangely enough after that goal Holland started even playing worse, losing control over the midfield and Uruguay, without really getting dangerous, slowly took over the game. And it led to the inevitable when, 5 minutes before half time, Uruguay captain Diego Forlan collected the ball 35 yards from the Netherlands goal, turned into some space in a central position and let fly a left-foot shot that seems to swerve in the air and bamboozle Maarten Stekelenburg, who can only help the ball one-handed high into his own net.
Also in the second half it remained a disappointing game for the neutral spectator, with Holland playing to slow and predictable and with Uruguay still looking the more dangerous side although they didn't get any real chances except a possiblility afterr a short back-pass of Boularouz and a Furlan free kick that was saved by Stekelenburg.
But after about 20 minutes Holland finally bursted into life a bit resulting in a chance for van der Vaart, saved well by the Uruguayan goalie. And in the 70th minute Holland was ahead again, again a lucky goal but who cares (I didn't
) when (with van Persie appearing to be just in an offside position) Wesley Sneyder's slightly deflected shot flies in the bottom left hand corner behind the goalie. And 3 minutes later, after (finally) a beautiful attack, we scored 3-1, a great header of Arjen Robben (I didn't know he could to this). Game, set and match you would think and it looked that way but Uruguayan Maxi Pereira had different thoughts and scored 3-2 in injury time. Suddenly Holland faced a frantic finale, Uruguay launched a few balls into the dutch box causing scary moments for the dutch fans but luckily Holland survived
Results and Points:
Uruguay - Netherlands 2-3
Netherlands in the final: 80 points. This was predicted correct by 47 participants.

Today:
Hollands opponent in the final will come from today's semi final clash between Germany and Spain, by many people considered to be the final. Spain is probably playing the best football overall and Germany are perhaps the best team in this championship.
It"s also a reprise of the Euro 2008 final that was decided by a Fernando Torres goal. Germany for sure is out on revanche. Spain was before the tournament started, together with Brazil, the main candidate for winning the World Cup. Del Bosque's men had set an impressive track winning record before coming to South Africa and it was a huge shock, not only for them but for all of us, to lose the opener against the Swiss.
But Spain recovered well, mainly thanks to David Villa, already topscorer at Euro 2008 and also leading now the topscorerlist with 5 goals. It might be worrying for Spain that they are really depending on one player since he alone produce the goals. Nevertheless, Spain seems to be improving per match and look to have found their form just in time to be able to beat Germany.
And they will need to be in form since Germany is without any doubt the team that made the greatest impression so far at this World Cup edition. They managed already three times to score 4 goals in a match and that was including teams like England and Argentina. Joachim Low's youngsters look rampant, eager and ready to win Germay 4th world cup title. A big loss for them might be the suspension of new Bayern Munich start Thomas Muller, who is really playing fantastic up till now.
Both teams met each other 20 times with 8 German wins, 6 Spanish wins and 6 draws. It promise to be a close match. For Spain it's their first World Cup semi final, for Germany their 11th. It is 52 years since a side other than the Azurri defeated Die Mannschaft (both in 1970 and 2006) at the semi final stage. A bad omen for Germany is maybe that the Octupus Oracle, Paul - who does have an impeccable, 100% record in this World Cup, which is more than can be said about anyone else, by predicting German victories over Australia, Ghana, England and Argentina, and also, more shockingly, a German loss to Serbia - now predicted a Spanish win in the semi final.
How about the predictions of you? Spain is also amongst you the big faovorite with 102 people predicting a final spot for them, only 24 participators have Germany as a finalist.
Well, that's it for today, CU all tomorrow again with the results of today's semi final.

Puyol heads Spain into final
Footballfans,
Spain won their third straight game 1-0 in yesterday's semi final against Germany and earned themselves a final spot against the Netherlands on sunday. Congratulations for all the Spanish particpators !!! (and for those amongst them that I know personally, for 1 evening we will not be friends but enemies
)
And to be honest, I think It was a deserved victory since Spain was looking comfortable controlling huge periods of the match and Germany, although showing excellent shape and discipline, was not able to play their game as they did before and really hurt the Spanish defense.
Spain started better than Germany who hardly had any ball possession in the opening of the match. After a quarter they had their first real chance with a diving header of Puyol flying over the bar. Spain remained the dominating party without creating too much chances but after about half an hour Germany started playing a bit more comfortabely resultign in their first shot on goal after 32 minutes.
Nevertheless Spain remained the better team and their only problem was that they were sometimes over-playing it, they had so much of the ball but did very little decisive with it. And in the 45th minute they had a real scare when Mesut Ozil fastened on to a pass forward and went down in the box asking for a penalty. Replays suggest Ozil was fouled by Ramos, but the first contact was outside the box.
And also in the second half Spain started brightly with Pedro setting up Xavi Alonso to shoot wide. And around the 60th minute Spain came really close Pedro shot saved by Neuer and Iniesta's cross just evading Villa at the far post.
With 0-0 on the scoreboard Spain still had to be patient and wait for the perfect moment to pass through Germany and the Germans were still waiting for their chance to counter. And Germany almost did get what they were looking for when Lukas Podolski digged out a super cross from the left that landed on the half-volley for the unmarked Toni Kroos, but he couldn't get enough power on the shot and Iker Casillas dived to his left to make the parry. All that Spanish possession and it's Germany who could and maybe should be 1-0 up, what a chance. And just when Germany was getting some more possession it was Spain that stroke. Not the Spanish goal who maybe would expect but Barcelona captain Carlos Puyol climbing the highest at a corner thumping a header behind Neuer.
In the last quarter Germany tried to push and although Spain had to go back a bit Germany didn't get a real good chance of scoring the equalizer. Actually, Spain should have finished it on the counter when Pedro refused to play the ball to the unmarked Fernando Torres leaving the whole of Spain horrified. I think you seldom heard pundits screaming at a player as much as you did when Pedro didn't pass to Torres at the end. Nevertheless Spain made it till the end, a fully deserved win I think. They were definitely the better side, some of their passing again was scintillating - yet the irony is that their winning goal came courtesy of a headed goal from a centre half.
Though also compliments for the German team, they produced some of the greatest football at this World Cup and I think this team was mabye just too young and unexperienced for this tournament to win it. But it will definitely play a major role in the big tournaments in the coming years.

The 63rd match of the tournament, the one no one wants to play and the one often regarded as better to skip, turned out to be, from a football point of view, an attractive game from start to finish, although Germany were lucky that Dennis Aogo wasn't sent off after 5 minutes with a red card for a really horrible tackle. The Germans looked more threatening in the opening and it paid out in the 19th minute when the Uruguayan goalie couldn't control a 30 yard Schweinsteiger shot and Thomas Muller got in quick to score his fifth goal of the tournament, levelling with David Villa and Wesley Sneijder for the Golden Shoe competition.
But the same Schweinsteiger of the shot that led to the 1-0 lost the ball on the midfield in the 28th minute and suddenly Uruguay was breaking with pace and Luis Suarez was feeding Edinson Cavani who scored his first World Cup goal and levelled the match.
In the second half it was Uruguay who forced, after only 3 minutes, the german goalie to make 2 great saves but in the 51th he didn't stand a chance. Arevalo played a cracking - if unconventional - one-two down the right with Luis Suarez and his cross to the edge of the box was acrobatically volleyed into the ground and into the Germany net by who else then Diego Forlan...also scoring his 5th goal of the tournament. But only 5 minutes later the Uruguayan goalie Fernando Muslera again missed a German cross completely and this time with consequence as Marcell Jansen headed into an empty net.
The play was going up and down, very lively and very attractive with chances for both teams. In the end it was Germany that converted one of the chances when Uruguay refused to clear a corner and Sami Khedira headed in the 3-2 for Germany.
Uruguay came very close to the equalizer when they got a free kick from 20 yards in injury time. But, inches from the Golden Shoe, Diego Forlan's right-foot shot crashed against the Germany crossbar.
Results and Points:
Uruguay - Germany 2-3
Germany finished third: 25 points. This was predicted correct by 22 participants.
Uruguay finished fourth, 15 points. This was predicted correct by 3 people.
Thomas Muller made a goal, scores 25 points.
Diego Forlan made a goal, scores 25 points.
Cacao receives a yellow card, scores 5 penalty points.
Scores and Ranking:
Topscorer of the day was Christa van der Wal with 50 points, followed by Olivier van Cauwenbergh, Roy Gosselt and Stefan Rijnders with 40 points scored. There were 34 participators scoring 25 points and the remaining 143 didn't score any points at all.
So, any changes in the top of the ranking? Yep, Stefan Rijnders is back on top again with 827 points coming from the second place. Roy Gosselt jumps from 5 to 2 with 803 points and previous leader Marchal van Lare is third now with still 796 points. On the 4th place we still find Carl Ouweneel scoring 793 points. Nick de Poorter gains one place and finds himself back on the last price winning position with 775 points. Cor de Feijter falls back from 3 to place 6 with 773 points. The second member of the Gosselt clan, Alex Gosselt is still 7th. Tamara Korstanje is 8th now, Willem van der Wind 9th and Richard Rovers 10th.
At the bottom of the ranking no changes, the bottom five are still the same.

Today:
This evening the moment we have been waiting for, the final: Holland versus Spain. Personally I am not so confident in a dutch victory since I think Spain is the better side...but I hope of course to be wrong and history has proven that it's not always the better side that wins.
At least we will get a new World Champion and also a new number one in the FIFA World Ranking.
Both teams have impressive track records with Spain only losing 2 out of the last 32 matches and Holland being unbeaten for 25 consecutive matches. Holland can also be the second team, of course Brazil was the first one, becoming World Champion by winning all World Cup qualifications matches and all matches at the World Cup tournament.
If we look at the head to head encounters, they are completely in balance, both teams winning 4 out of the 9 matches they played against each toher and drawing once.
Actually I am already too nervous to be able to write much more about the match so I am going to stick to listing the predictions.
Spain was predicted to be World Champion by 63 participators, Netherlands by 31 participators (must be all dutch participators
). There are 39 people who have Spain as runner-up and 17 have the Netherlands as losing finalist.
But from the 24 people that had the final correctly predicted we see that 16 have Netherlands as winner.
And for the superstituous people...Octopus Paul (damned, the bloody "pulpo" had it right again with Germany - Uruguay and still has a 100% score) says it will be Spain, I prefer to go for Mani the Parakeet from Singapore who picked Holland
Also all the "extra" parts of this footballpool will be clear.
These are some intermediate rankings so far. Country of the topscorer of the tournament can still be Spain, Netherlands, Germany or Spain with David Villa, Wesley Sneijder, Thomas Muller and Diego Forlan as the main candidates, with the first two names still one match to play.
David Villa was predicted 59 times and Diego Forlan once....all the other players are not mentioned by anyone of you. Spain was mentioned 72 times to deliver the topscorer of the tournament, the Netherlands 21 times, Uruguay 1 time and Germany not.
For the number of goals of the topscorer 36 people gambled on 5 goals, what it is now, 55 people on 6 goals and 44 people on 7 goals.
Most scoring team so far and probably the winner is Germany - predicted by 5 people - with 16 goals. The maybe only other candidate, but I don't really believe that, is Holland - predicted by 16 people - with 12 goals scored so far.
At the moment there are 144 goals scored, 247 yellow cards given and 16 red cards.
Well that's it for the preview.
Whatever the result of the final is....THE FINAL MAIL WITH THE ENDRANKING WILL COME MONDAY EVENING !!!!
Only thing left to say now and that is to wish both the Dutch and Spanish participators a lot of success this evening.
Normally I would say, may the best team win and actually I still do and when it is Spain (which I think it will be) they fully deserve it, great great team and I really love the way they play, it would be a victory for football.....but to be very honest, for once I wouldn't mind if Holland wins this one in a very very ugly way
Ciao Ciao,

E VIVA ESPAGNA !!!! CAMPEONES DEL MUNDO!!! .... AND THE WINNER IS
Footballfans,
Well, a heartbreaking evening it was sunday for all the dutch supporters but FELICIDADES to SPAIN and the spanish participators for a well deserved victory and WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP !!!
What an evening, what a tension...unfortunately not "what a match " since it was definitely not one of the best finals from a pure football perspective...and that's an understatement. Spain wanted to play and Holland did everything (allowed and not allowed) not to let them play.
Spain was the better starting team and already after 4 minutes they could have taken the lead with a Sergio Ramos header that was well saved by the dutch goalie Maarten Stekelenburg. Holland was definitely not itself at the first half and were extremely physical in their attempts to break up Spain's passing game - an approach that led to deserved yellow cards for van Persie and van Bommel (could have been red also) and should definitely have led to a red card for Nigel de Jong for a stupid karate kick agains Xabi Alonso (first crucial mistake of referee Howard Webb...unfortunately many more to follow). And although Holland was fighting itself a little better in the match, leading to a small chance but Joris Matthijsen completely missed the ball after a studied corner, Spain remained the better team without creating too much.
Also in the second half Spain started well with almost immediately a chance for CapdeVilla out of a corner but he completeley miskicked the ball. The game became a bit livelier and Holland was getting a bit back in the match. And in the 62th minute a beautifull pass from Sneijder puts Arjen Robben alone for Casillas who makes a brilliant save with the tip of his foot. Should have been a goal for Holland. But 8 minutes later Spain should have scored, Heitinga misses a Navas cross and now it's Villa who fails to score from close range.
Shortly after van Bommel should definitely have got his second yellow card after again a dirty foul on Iniesta at the side line but also Iniesta reaction should have been a red card. But Webb again missed both actions, gave no cards at all and instead of playing 9 against 10 we were surprisingly enough still playing 11 against 11.
Towards the end of the match Spain was cranking it up a bit and looked the likelier of the two teams to nick a late winner. Some gaps were starting to open up for them and Iniesta was only stopped in the dutch area by an excellent challenge from Wesley Sneijder.
But also gaps in the Spanish defense with Arjen Robben burning past Puyol with the spanish defender trying to haul Robben back. Robben however didn't fall but now he's been penalised for staying on his feet there. Puyol outbalanced him enough to lose the ball and not be able to score and since "the advantage" was gone the referee should have given a free kick and a second yellow card to Puyol but, after missing de Jong's red card, again a critical mistake of Webb.
So the match went into extra time. Almost immediately Spain was furious to get a penalty kick for a Heitinga foul on Xavi, and although it was not very clear to see, it might have been one, but again the referee missed it. And a few minutes later Fabregas had the decision on his foot when he suddenly appeared alone for Stekelenburg but again a brilliant save of the dutch goalie.
Spain was still the more threatening team in the extra time. And then in the second half of the extra time the inevitable happened finally someone sent off. Heitinga just puts his hand on Iniesta's back but no push and were Puyol did make a foul and Robben was trying to stand on his feet earlier in the match, here not much happened but Iniesta was professional and smart enough to immediately dive like a dying swan to the ground. It meant a second yellow and thus red card for Heitinga.
And then the crucial minute of the match. Sneijder gets a free kick that takes a big deflection off Cesc Fabregas, but Howard Webb gives a goalkick???. Casillas immediately takes the goal kick and from that attack Iniesta shoots Spain to eternal fame.
Deserved, yes, fully deserved looking at the match but it's only a bit hard that the goal had to fall from a situation coming from a crucial mistake from the referee.
Is the referee to blame for the loss of Holland? No, I don't think so in the end, it's Holland's own fault, they played to brutal at times and not the way they can play and Spain was the better team. Nevertheless I am also convinced that, without that mistake of not given the clear corner to Holland, it would have been penalty shooting and thus yes, how fully deserved Spain's victory might be in the end, the referee had a crucial influence on the result of this game and that never might have happened, not in any match but certainly not in a World Cup final. .

Nevertheless I am also convinced that, without that mistake of not given the clear corner to Holland, it would have been penalty shooting and thus yes, how fully deserved Spain's victory might be in the end, the referee had a crucial influence on the result of this game and that never might have happened, not in any match but certainly not in a World Cup final. .

Inderdaad heer Kegels.
