Dat is wel flauw, want volgens mij kreeg je er dan helemaal geen punten voor.

Chengue heeft daarin de leiding overgenomen van Paap_Floyd. Ondergetekende staat stijf onderaan ...maar mijn 4 halve finalisten en finalisten zitten er nog in en ze ontmoeten elkaar voor die tijd ook niet meer onderweg


England and Germany through, Slovenians and Serbs heartbroken after elimination.

Football fans,

Both England and Germany secured in their last group match a place at the last 16 and a classic clash between the two big football nations coming sunday.

The day started with the final matches of Group C. England responded well to the immense pressure of the home nation after two disappointing games and produced a much-improved performance. Jermain Defoe was the match winner but the score should have been higher than just 1-0. England looked in control of the game and Lampard, Defoe, Gerrard and Rooney all got chances to double the score. It gave Slovenia hope and left the English fans sweating till the end. But at the end they could celebrate a fully deserved win.
In the other match between USA and Algeria both teams needed to win. USA did get the best chances but it looked to become the story of inspired saves of the Algerian goalie, poor American finishing and a linesman's error which denied an clear American goal for the second time this tournament. And we had to wait untill stoppage time when Landon Donovan secured the goal the American needed so desperately for a place at the last 16. Incredible, USA left it until almost the last kick of the game to break Algeria's hearts and to break Slovenia's hearts too. And with that goal they jumped over England in the ranking finishing top of the group as well.

In the evening the closing matches of Group D were played. Also here all 4 teams could still survive the group phase.
Germany played Ghana in Johannesburg and had to win to be sure of a place with the best 16 teams of the world, while Ghana only needed a draw. Bot teams managed to waste some fine chances in an entertaining goalless first half. In the second half it was playmaker Mesut Ozil who, with a delicious, dipping left-foot shot from the edge of the area, provided Germany the goal they needed. In the last half hour a second German goal looked more likely than the equalizer from Ghana but no goals were scored anymore. Germany was finishing first by this result and Ghana had to hope on the result of the other match.
In the other match between Serbia and Australia the Serbs had the best chances first half but in the second half it were the Socceroos that stroke...and not just once. Via Tim Cahill and Brett Holman they took a 2-0 lead and hope was rising in the Australian hearts since they only needed 2 more goals to qualify. But Marko Pantelic's goal for Serbia brought them back in the match and the Serbs were then only one goal away from qualifying for the next stage. But Serbia's late flurry proves too little, too late. It were some horribly nervous moments for the Ghanaians after the whistle as they waited for the result from Australia - Serbia but once they heard they made it, the party could start.

Two more 1/8 finale matches are known now, on saturday it's USA vs Ghana and on sunday the classic world cup cracker England vs Germany.

The first price winning intermediate ranking is almost there, only 2 days left to go...and it's close at the top.

Topscorer of the day was Elise Matthijs scoring 43 points, followed by Filip Goyvaerts - also the biggest mover in the ranking gaining 84 positions) and Gabi von Trotha both with 41 points scored. Richard Rovers - 40 points, Christophe Rahier and Hans Dijkstra - 39 points also did have a good day just as Anja Plasschaert, Guy de Bruyne, Martien Jans and Raymond Laarhoven with 38 points.
For Ann Brouckmans, José Cutileiro, Pedro van Dorst and Ton Verbakel with 7 points, Christophe Mamolo with 6 points and Bjorn Hansen and Raimon Laan with 5, it's a day to quickly forget. .

We have a two leaders at the moment with 171 points. Alex Gosselt (aaain a member of the family Gosselt on toip) and Stefan Rijnders yesterday already sitting on the tail of the number one, took over the topposition. But Hans Dijkstra is just one point away, Richard Rovers is 4th on two points, Bart Tubee 5th on 4 poins. The top 10 is completed by Miguel Alvariño Gil, Stefan Moons, Martin Roqueiro, Christophe Rahier, Koen Rubens and Pieter Reijven.

Jeroen Delmeire is still at the bottom of the ranking. He scored 13 points today, and has already a gap of 30 points to close to leave the red lantarn behind.

In Group F all 4 teams still have a chance to qualify, in Group E the last qualifier comes out the match Denmark vs Japan.
We will start the day tomorrow with the group F matches.
An important day for Italy tomorrow as the Squadra Azurri has to secure qualification for the next round in the last group match. Paraguay is leading group F at the moment and they are facing the team that surprised us already twice, the All Whites. For Paraguay a draw is enough to qualify, only if the lose they depend on the result of the other match.
New Zealand and Italy starting both at the last round with the same number of points and the same goal difference. For either of these teams we can state, the team that get's the best result survive's and it might be if both teams draw with the same score that we get a drawing of the lot to decide which team goes to the last 16. For Slovakia it's simple, they need to beat Italy and hope New Zealand doesn't win from Paraguay.

Looking at the predictions for the group F matches, for Slovakia - Italy the majority of you think Italy will win, 119 participators to be precise. From the remaining 62 only 9 believe in a victory for Slovakia, the other 53 settle for a draw.
In the other match Paraguay - New Zealand it's even more explicit, 153 go for Paraguay, 12 for New Zealand and 16 for a draw.
If we look at the endranking predictions for Group F, we see that 142 people have put Italy on 1. For the second place Paraguay is favorite among 92 participators while7 go for New Zealand and 48 for Slovenia on place 2.

In the evening Group E is played. For Holland and Cameroon there's not too much at stake. Cameroon is already out, Holland is already qualified. At the moment they are qualified as group winner, with a bad result against Cameroon they might end second in the group. The big match in group E is Denmark and Japan. In a direct confrontation these two teams decide which team joins Holland to the next round. Japan has the advantage and only need a draw, Denmark has to win.

The match predictions for Group E are that for Cameroon - Netherlands 7 people think Cameroon will win, 111 put their money on Netherlands and 63 on a draw.
For the match Denmark - Japan, the Danish are favorite amongst 117 of you, 21 go for Japan and 43 for a draw.

Was USA - Algerije echt maar door 13 deelnemers goed ingevuld als toto?

Ik kan het me voorstellen. Ik heb al moeite om alles bij te houden (wil ook zoveel mogelijk van de praatprogramma's zien).

Chengue heeft de leiding nog steeds in handen in de MuMeter ranking en staat in de algemene ranking op plaats 9. Rgr44 en Paap_Floyd handhaven zich eveneens bovenin en Woody is ineens opgerukt naar plaats 4. Ondergetekende staat nog steeds stijf onderaan.


World Champions Out !!!

Another shocking surprise at the World Cup 2010 when reigning champion Italy was knocked out by Slowakia. In a match with a spectacular last quarter Slowakia beated Italy with 3-2. Italy started sluggish and again the lack of creativity was painful to see. The Slowakians took a deserved lead in the first half and also in the early stages of the second half Italy never looked as if they were going to score. Somewhere half way the second half, after Pirlo was brought in the team, Italy was getting their first chances and they were unlucky when Fabio Quagliarella's right-foot volley was hacked off the line by Martin Skrtel. And when Robert Vittek scored his second goal a quarter before closing time, the match was played....at least we thought. But it was the set up for a spectacular last 10 minutes. First Di Natale brought Italy back to 2-1 and a few minutes later Fabio Quagliarella scored the equalizer - only for the assistant to raise his flag and break the hearts of the Italian nation...it was really a close call whether it was offside or onside and it could have gone the other way. Then in the 89th minute Slowakia scored again and with 3-1 it looked over and out again for Italy. But a magnificent goal of Quagliarella 2 minutes into injury time brought back hopes in the Italian hearts...would it still be possible...and yes, they had the chance to make it 3-3 and qualify, but no, they didn't. Simone Pepe gets his volley all wrong from six yards and screws the ball wide. Game set and match for Slowakia and Italy finishes last in Group F, who would have thought that at the start of the tournament.
In the other match of Group F Paraguay met New Zealand and the match ended as it started, 0-0. Paraguay finishes first, New Zealand third. But three draws from three matches and finishing one place above 2006 tournament winners Italy means the All Whites travel back east from Polokwane with both pride intact and reputation enhanced.

In group E Denmark and Japan had to decide in a direct confrontation which team would join Holland to the second round. Two stunning free kicks of Japan gave them a comfortable and fully deserved 2-0 lead half time. In the second half Denmark came back into the game in the 84th minute when Jon Dahl Tomasson converted an easy given penalty in two times. But some brilliance of Japanese Keisuke Honda who set up the goal for substitute Okazaki made an end to the Danish hopes.
In the other match Holland played Cameroon and both teams could play free without pressure. Holland was already qualified and Cameroon was already out. The dutch fans were hoping to see a better playing team then in the first two matches....they did play a little better but for sure not good yet. Robin van Persie, after a beautiful combination with vd Vaart, gave Holland the lead at half time. But Holland had a sloppy start in the second half and halfway the second half Cameroon deserved a penalty that was converted by Eto'o. Then a big moment for Holland 15 minutes before they end. Arjen Robben, getting injured just before the World Cup - looking to be ruled out but fought back, came in as a substitute to make his first World Cup 2010 minutes. And it had immediately impact when he curled a shot against the post with Huntelaar to slot into an empty goal.

Two more 1/8 finale matches are known now, on monday it's Netherlands vs Slowakia and on tuesday it's Paraguay vs Japan.

Topscorer of the day was Edward de Roo scoring 37 points, followed by Cristina Graça and Myranda Braal with 35 points, Kurt Huysmans with 34 and Peter McGoldrick with 33 points. On the downside Herbe van de Merbel managed to score 0 points, but also Martien Jans with 1 point, Karel Bloemen with 3 and Jean-Pierre Nolet and Emilio (Negro) with 4 points were not succesfull.

Tomorrow :

Tomorrow the final matches of Group G and Group H are played resulting in the last 3 teams for the 1/8 finales joining Uruguay, Mexico, Argentina, South Korea, USA, England, Germany, Ghana, Holland, Japan, Paraguay, Slowakia and Brazil.

In Group G Brazil already qualified and North Korea is out. The second qualification place will go to either Portugal or Ivory Coast. Without any doubt Portugal have the best cards here due to their massive 7-0 win over North Korea. If the Portugese win or draw against Brazil the job is done but even if they loose Ivory Coast have a huge job to do holding up a 9 goals goal difference.
A Portuguese win over Brazil would mean that Portugal finish on top of the group...maybe important in order to avoid Spain in the next round (providing Spain wins Group H of course).

Looking at the predictions Brazil is favorite in the match against Portugal. 89 Participators go for a Brazilian win, 20 go for Portugal and 72 for a draw.
For North Korea - Ivory Coast it's also clear that almost everybody thinks Drogba and his team mates will win, 154 to be precise. 10 people go for the surprise of a North Korean victory and 17 for a draw.
If we look at the endranking predictions for Group G, we see that 156 people have put Brazil on 1. For the second place Portugal was favorite for 124 participators and 34 believed in Ivory Coast for place 2.

For our Spanish participators it will be a tense day. Are they able to fully whipe out their first match defeat against Switzerland and earn a place in the knock out phase by beating Chile. Looking at group H all 4 teams still have a chance to qualify.
Honduras has the biggest job to do, they need to win with at least a 2 goal difference against Switzerland and hope that Chile beats Spain. With a draw at Switzerland - Honduras, Honduras is out, Chile is qualified and Switzerland must hope that Spain loses. If the Swiss manage to win it's becoming interesting and more complex. In that case Spain has to beat Chile to survive, if they do they always end above Chile in the ranking. And then it's all about goal difference between Chile and Switzerland for the other place. It might be that the Swiss jump over both Spain and Chile and the South Americans are out but it also can result in a draw of the lot between Chile and Switzerland.


Spain is favorite in the match against Chile for 141 of our participants, 36 go for a draw and 4 put their money on Chile. And the Swiss are favorite against Honduras. We see 132 times a prediction for a Swiss win, 15 times a Honduras win and 34 draws.
If we look at the endranking predictions for Group H, we see that 179 out of 181 people have put Spain on 1. For the second place we see 66 times Switzerland being mentioned, 10 times Honduras and 103 times Chile.

Gaat lekker in de pools. Gisteren in de vriendenpool 2-1 voor NL voorspeld en 2-1 voor Japan, 'jammer' dat Japan er op de valreep nog eentje maakt.

Bij die van El Ninjo stijg ik 41 plaatsen en bij de MuMe-pool nog maar 5 punten van de eerste plek verwijderd.

Ik had 2-2 bij NL gisteren

Ik had eerst 2-1, maar had het veranderd naar 2-0 . Altijd dodelijk, wijzigen. achteraf

Ah, in mijn poules kan ik niet wijzigen. Gewoon voor het toernooi invullen en dan zien waar het schip strandt.
