Thomas Azier blijft mij positief verbazen. Vanaf het moment dat zijn debuutalbum overuren draaide tijdens mijn zomervakantie in Mykonos, 2014 ben ik hem blijven volgen, wat een talent. Ook nu weer een prachtige rustige opbouw, met rond sluimerende emoties die in een heerlijk schuurende climax aan de oppervlakte komen! White Horses en The Girl Beneath The Lion van dezelfde EP zijn ook zeer de moeite waard.

Dan een hele fijne, best melodieuze techno track die ik heb leren kennen dankzij jordidj1

En als er al zoveel materiaal van Gorillaz in mijn lijst verblijft dan is er toch ook zeker plek voor het prachtig, ingetogen Magic City? Het ultieme zomer album van deze zomer!

Dan op #18 een re - entry. Een nummer dat al even in de onderste regionen van mijn lijst vertoefde. Echter daar zou ik dit fijne nummer zwaar mee tekort doen. Sinds Down the Rabbit Hole lijkt het wel alsof iedereen in mijn nabije omgeving dit nummer draait. Ben hem voorlopig nog niet beu, vandaar dat hij terug komt in mijn lijst, sterker dan ooit tevoren.

En dan een van de meest gehate bands door mij; Blof, tot ze met dit nummer op de proppen kwamen. Rammelde al langer op de toegangspoorten van de lijst, maar kan er nu niet meer omheen; komt nu overtuigend binnen omdat ik dit nummer zelf ook actief aan het draaien ben. En Zoutelande is gewoon een prachtig stukje Nederland natuurlijk, mooier dan het overhypte Scheveningen of Zandvoort.

Meer zomer met St. Lucia, die ik vooral ken van hun heerlijke hit Elevate, liefst in de Passion Pit remix gegoten. Zag hem vorige week al binnenkomen bij Vince vega dus kon deze week rekenen op flink wat airplay bij mij en dus zeker niet onverdienstelijk.

Op #33 wederom een nummer met een zomerse vibe, Break Thru haalde mijn lijst net niet. I Feel Energy doet dat wel, lekker eigenzinnige mix van pop, afrobeat en funk.

Anna Calvi blijft ook een interessante dame om te volgen. Je moet er van houden, maar die ferme uithalen van haar kan ik altijd bijzonder goed verteren. Fijne poprock met vederlichte tintjes electronic die onder het nummer verborgen zitten.

Laatste binnenkomer komt van een Engelse band met een voorliefde voor electronic. Ze hebben hun strepen al lang verdiend en menigeen zal het nummer ''You Loft my Acid'' wel kennen van reclame en ''Dirge'' kennen we dan weer als muziek ''door populaire media'' bij voorbaat gemonteerd onder gebeurtenissen met een afglijdende schaal. Perfecte doemdenkerij muziek. Honey werkt net zo hypnotiserend als zijn voorgangers.

23. Brockhampton - Wildfire 1999
Brockhampton is terug met hun eerste grote single sinds de SATURATION serie (Tonya is volgens mij alleen nog in de liveversie te horen geweest), en sinds Ameer uit de groep is getrapt wegens vrouwonvriendelijk gedrag. Zo te horen heeft de groep er muzikaal niet onder te lijden, wat op zich niet gek is met zo'n enorme groep creatievelingen. Wildfire 1999 is een heerlijk onbezorgd pop/hiphop nummer, met die fijne typische Brockhampton productie en het Outkastachtige refrein.

30. Melatonin Man - My Head Is a Tornado
Het Rotterdamse label Nous'klaer is verantwoordelijk voor een aantal interessante electronic artiesten, waaronder de hier eerder opgepikte upsammy, Matheis en deze Melatonin Man. Het is een label dat qua geluid een klein en ietwat alternatiever broertje is van underground legendarisch label Giegling, met een diep, zacht geluid met veel verwijzingen naar ambient en breakbeat. Deze track, met de naar 90s neigende bubbelende synths, is voorlopig mijn favoriet van des Mans laatste EP.

34. Joe Goddard - Human Touch [Dub]
Joe Goddard, houseproducer en muzikaal brein van Hot Chip, blijft mijn interesse steady vasthouden met iedere nieuwe release. Na zijn sterke album van vorig jaar brengt hij nu een knappe dubbele A-kant single uit, waarvan de tweede zijde, Human Touch, een vol, dubby housenummer met mooie melodieën, mij voorlopig het meest weet te overtuigen. Naar aanleiding van Arries nominatie van de eerste zijde ben ik die ook maar wat meer gaan luisteren, en wie weet gaat die het ook nog redden.

36. Gorillaz - Humility [DJ Koze Remix]
Eigenlijk ben ik er geen groot fan van om zowel een origineel als een remix in mijn lijst te nomineren, maar als je het origineel zó respectvol je eigen kleur en klank kan geven als DJ Koze steeds weer opnieuw weet te doen, zonder het geluid van het origineel te verloochenen, kan ik dat alleen maar toejuichen en belonen met een nominatie. Alsof dat hem wat boeit.

37. Perel - Alles [Red Axes Remix]
Eigenlijk ben ik er geen groot fan van om zowel een origineel als een remix in mijn lijst te nomineren, zeker als ze qua sound en stijl erg op elkaar lijken, maar als je er zoals de heren van Red Axes de intensiteit van het origineel een paar tandjes omhoog weet te schroeven en er een échte clubbanger van weet te maken, kan ik dat alleen maar toejuichen en belonen met een nominatie. Dank aan Arnout voor de tip.

38. Kelly Lee Owens - Bird [Prins Thomas Diskomiks]
Prins Thomas is een artiest die vooral naam heeft gemaakt met zijn dikke remixes, dus toen ik deze in het lijstje van herman zag verschijnen was ik geïnteresseerd. Het duurde even voor ik hem echt ging waarderen, mede dankzij de speelduur die met dik 17 minuten nogal aan de lange kant is, maar het is een heerlijke, zorgvuldig opgebouwde psychedelische discotrip.

40. Ólafur Arnalds - saman
Voorlopig de minst indrukwekkende single van Arnalds, dit lieflijke, korte solopianonummer. Zeker prima, waardoor hij mijn lijst nog haalt, maar veel verder dan een erenotering zie ik niet niet komen. Wie weet bewijst saman mijn ongelijk nog in de komende weken.

Ik luister de laatste tijd weer opvallend veel K-pop en J-pop, J-pop luisterde ik vroeger ook wel naar, maar K-pop leerde ik de laatste tijd pas beter kennen en ik heb best wel een zwak voor dingen als BTS en Blackpink. Maar nu komt er voor het eerst K-pop mijn lijst binnen, namelijk Loona. Het valt heel erg goed als een luchtige zomerhit. Hoe ik het nummer precies in mijn lijst moet zetten, is wel lastig: de groep brengt ook allemaal solonummers van de leden uit, terwijl het tegelijkertijd ook aan de groep wordt toegeschreven. De groep heeft trouwens ook nog drie subgroepen, om het nog ingewikkelder te maken.

Met de Prins Thomas Diskomiks van Kelly Lee Owens hebben we één van mijn langste hits ooit, met zeventien minuten, maar of het de langste is, durf ik niet meteen te zeggen... Moet ik eens uitzoeken!

Ik viel laatst zowat van mijn fiets toen ik Lizzo op 3FM hoorde. Ik werd er ook ontzettend blij van. Ook haar samenwerking met ‘queen of bounce’ Big Freedia is een groot feest.

- Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek: geen idee meer waar ik dit heb opgevist, maar waarschijnlijk is dit in mijn Spotify-tips beland nadat ik wat Turkse 60's psych heb uitgeprobeerd. Dat beviel niet zo, maar dit 2018-equivalent dus wel. Geweldige Turkse psychpop met orgel, een snaarinstrument dat ik niet kan benoemen en een prachtig klinkende zangeres, al versta ik geen woord van wat ze zingt. Ik ga zo meteen het hele album opzetten, ik ben benieuwd.
- The Golden Filter veroverde zo'n 10 jaar mijn hart met een paar fantastische nu-disco platen. Na een tijdje afwezigheid gooide ze het eens over de industriële technohoek, wat ook niet slecht was, maar ik ben blij dat ze nu weer een beetje terug keren naar hun begingeluid. In het begin klinkt het nog als enigszins kille ebm/new wave, maar als er halverwege een hartverwarmde synth bij komt ben ik verkocht.
- The Mary Onettes gaat een beetje verder in hetzelfde straatje, maar dan wat zanger ipv zangeres en een stuk dromeriger. Ook een band die ons al jarenlang trakteert op mooie dreampop-/wave-muziek en iig mij blijft boeien.
- Kölsch en Tiga komen dan met een lekkere zomerse dansvloerknaller. Het nummer is instrumentaal op de vocal sample van 'Hallelujah' na, die het nummer een mooi euforisch tintje meegeeft (en mij erg doet denken aan het housegeluid van eind jaren '80/begin jaren '90).
- Chaka Khan, van deze 65-jarige zangeres wist ik niet eens dat ze nog muzikaal actief was. Dit nummer is rete-funky en rete-dansbaar, het zou mooi zijn als dit de mainstream wist te bereiken. Mooie rol ook voor Switch als producer, ook alweer een paar jaar terug dat hij met iets echt boeiends kwam.
- Ross From Friends: toffe lo-fi outsider house. Eind deze maand komt zijn debuutalbum, ben benieuwd!

LLLL LLL LLLLAURAN! Meisje Hibberd, van de week nog jarig geweest, presteert het schier onmogelijke door Jerry vervroegd van de eerste plaats te stoten. En da’s niet omdat ik het zo zielig vond dat zij, zoals ik vorige week al meldde, als praktisch enige sneeuwpoptopper was die nog nooit op één had gestaan. Nee, Call Shotgun is oprecht mijn met afstand meest afgespeelde nummer van de afgelopen anderhalve week en hij is ook zoooo goed. Na een kleine contactwisseling met Lauran heb ik nu ook weer de beschikking over een geheime link naar haar oude materiaal dat ze van alle streamingplatformen heeft gehaald, waardoor ik nu één van de weinige Nederlanders ben die haar debuut-EP terug kan horen, hiphip! Verder was een vrij rustig weekje tussen al dat sportkijken en zonnebaden door, maar er viel muzikaal desondanks wel het één en ander op in positieve zin. Na drie weken achter elkaar een binnenkomer op resp. 1, 3 en 2 krijgen we er nu één op 4, waardoor mijn Afrekening nu echt volledig wordt aangevoerd door zomerse releases. Roosevelt schuift door naar 5 om het compleet te maken. Verder twee entrees uit de Tip, waaronder Sims 2 dat als nummer bijna net zo briljant als het spel blijkt te zijn. Door het mooie weer had ik trouwens totaal geen zin om het Spotifyplaatje te verLauranen of de Tip uit te werken, dus daarover later meer.

Pi Ja Ma Party! Het was bij het onwijs schattige Radio Girl dat ik voor het eerst de term ‘sneeuwpop’ bezigde, waarmee de Avignonse Pauline dus aan de wieg staat van het inmiddels succesvolste genre in mijn Afrekening. Jup, ik zei ‘Avignonse’ dus ook de Frankrijkpop is aanwezig, wat zich dan weer uit in de creativiteit die ze om haar nummers heen uit. Op JijBuis heeft Pauline namelijk nu Le Pi Ja Ma Show lopen, en die staat bol van slaapkamerliedjes, tekeningen en knipselwerkjes die een kijkje geven in Pi Ja Ma’s uit miljoenen kleuren bestaande geest. Het resultaat is één van de schattigste, grappigste en vooral meest hartverwarmende dingen die ik ooit heb gezien. Ook weet ik nu dat ze van meloen houdt, haar broertje Felix heet en, niet onbelangrijk, ze in oktober met een debuutplaat komt. Nice! Als in de Engelse, niet de Franse. Nog nicer: dit najaar speelt Pauline meerdere shows in Nederland in het voorprogramma van SuperFUCKINGorganism. Omg!

LAKSHMI - Wars
Ook Lakshmi heeft inmiddels een dusdanige status bij me opgebouwd dat hr nummers direct na release in mijn hoofdlijst terechtkomen. Een release die trouwens lastig te missen is als je haar ook maar passief volgt op de sociale media, ze is daar namelijk hyperactief. En dt mag ze zijn, want ik vind ook dat iedereen haar nummers mag horen. Die zijn namelijk, stuk voor stuk, best wel awesome. Haar debuutplaat bevat aan de ene kant euforische Chvrchespop maar tevens bezwerende slowburners en duistere, soms keiharde elektronica. Wars, een midtempotrack bevat een beetje een mengeling van dit alles en voegt daar een subtiel dreampopgitaartje aan toe, waardoor het meisje uit Wijchen haar kleurenpalet nog mooi uitbreidt. Eén van de meest beloftevolle Nederlandse popartiesten van dit moment.

Niet al te veel verschuivingen deze week, maar wel een fijne aankondiging: Bon Iver en Aaron Dessner (The National) gaan samen een plaat maken (beide grote favorieten van mij). Eén van de vier voorproefjes van dat album komt deze week als hoogste binnen en het valt niet uit te sluiten dat er volgende week nog één volgt.

Ik luister nooit meer 3FM, maar dit is toch best een hitgevoelig nummer? Doet me een beetje denken aan Janelle Monaé (al is dat ook niet echt een hitkanon).

Leuk trouwens om die Prins Thomas remix toch nog bij een paar mensen te zien binnenkomen.

Wow, toffe ontdekkingen, Herman! Verwacht veel veranderingen in mijn lijst volgende week, haha!

Grappig om te zien hoeveel overeenkomst we hier hebben, ik heb vrijwel al die nummers ook veel gedraaid.

En die track van Lizzo is wel catchy ja, was vooral dat ik haar als artiest niet op 3FM had verwacht.

Geen dank! Ross From Friends stond alweer een maand tussen mijn tips, heb ik zelf opgepikt via panjoe volgens mij.

Wat betreft lange nummers dacht ik zelf nog aan Re Run Home van Kamasi Washington, bij mij de tweede plaats gehaald, maar die is 14 minuten.
