Such Great Singles - week 40: met als hoogste binnenkomer het mooiste (Zuid-)Afrikaanse nummer van het jaar (thx OnweerwolfAlice voor de tip). Zaria van Jaarsveld is haar naam en ze is in deze contreien en op spotify (< 1000 plays) nog schandalig onbekend. Ik zie dat Eigenwijze 30 haar al wel ontdekt had Ook nieuw & hoog in de lijst staat de meest recente single van Big Thief, die weinig fout kan doen dit jaar. M'n fave Schotse synthpoppers (aka de Kerkjes) zijn ook weer terug met nieuw werk, even catchy als altijd! ?? ? consolideert met gemak de koppositie en het Amerikaanse Queen of Jeans (een van dé ontdekkingen van het jaar) stijgt met stip door naar #2.

Ah ja, dat was voor mijn tijd. Ik volg De Eigenwijze sinds 2015 en de jaarlijsten vanaf 2013. Ik weet niet of ze er in de tussentijd nog in heeft gestaan, maar haar naam kwam me niet helemaal onbekend voor en dat zou wel moeten als ze sinds sinds 2013 niet meer in De Eigenwijze heeft gestaan.

Op zoek naar een opvallend nieuw geluid bij de new entry’s, deze week? die hebben we effe nie.
Wat we wel hebben is een stevige hoogste entry. Met Blankenship heeft ook DIIV de Shoegaze ontdekt, en geef ze eens ongelijk. Dacht deze NewYorkers niet te kennen dus het leek eerst een fijne kennismaking via DE lijst. Maar even door hun euvre scannend blijkt dat ik wel naar vorig album geluisterd heb, maar er nu niets meer van kan herinneren. En dat kan wel kloppen want geloof direct dat ze niet op zoek zijn naar eigen onderscheidende sound. Maar meer diverse PostPunk invloeden absorberen, waarmee ze muziek kunnen maken, die lekker uit de boxen knalt. En dan is de conclusie al snel dat hun nieuwe album stuk geslaagder is dan de vorige.

Is de nieuwe DeathCabForCutie wel een single? Nee hoor gewoon laatste track van recente EP. Een gierende gitaar na een subtiele opbouw doet wonderen. Niet vernieuwend, wel erg lekker en tercht in de lijst.

Wat een productietempo, 2 volwaardige albums in 5 maanden tijd. Dat is nog een eens Big. Of het gestolen ideetjes zijn maakt dan ook niet uit. Met Forgotten Eyes wil Big Thief bewust niet al te mooi zingen, ze zwalkt rond de microfoon als een dronken tor, lijkt het, wat het natuurlijk alleen maar interessanter maakt. Want probeer maar eens vast te stellen hoe vals zingen klinkt. Goedgekeurde folk en ja hoogste indie factor deze week.

Na her-match geadviseerd door Mausie staat Gang Starr met en zonder ft. / Feat / & toch maar mooi in de lijst. ten koste van Clario.

Sarah van Portland zingt zo dromerig mogelijk over haar Killer’s Mind. Studio Brussel heeft strakke promotie gedaan, anders waren deze Belgen vast niet DE lijst binnen gewandeld.

Iets moet er veranderen dacht Amber, maar wat? De nieuwe Japanese House klinkt mij meer als een restsong van haar debuutalbum, dan een echte Change. Maar alright als het prettig voor de oren is hoeft dat toch ook niet echt?

Zoontje Bono komt met een half gesmolten ijsje, een vederlicht popliedje dat met ruim 44pnt blijkbaar goed genoeg is om Inhaler zn 2de MuMe-hit te geven.

We spreken elkaar in week 41 vast weer.

Ja, de leden van de band hebben de leeftijd dat ze zich willen gaan noemen naar een Pokemon, ongetwijfeld hun favoriete spel op de gameboy 10, 15 jaar geleden. Dan mag de naam van het superspook Gengar officieel niet maar dan zet je er gewoon een letter tussen.
Aan de muziek is niets mis, maar het venijn zit 'm in dit geval vooral in de staart.

Misschien dat een kleinzoon van Roger Daltrey ook met zijn pokemonkaarten langs komt. De Who zanger neemt hem op zijn schoot en gaat misprijzend de kaarten langs. "Kijk opa, een mooie glimmende" probeert het joch. "My generation, This is my generation, baby" repeteert Daltrey de oude song. "I hope I die before I get old", verschrikt kijkt hij om zich heen. Het was gelukkig niemand opgevallen. "Dit is een geëvolueerde, opa". De jongen toont een wat gekreukte gele kaart.

Week 41

blur8, volgende week moet het sowieso goedkomen met Gang Starr. Bij mij deze week met stip doorgestegen naar de eerste plek. Heb je advies notatie gevolgd Maar kan je de week 40 weeklijst niet meer aanpassen?

- Tunnelvisions met weer een ontzettende banger. Tropical Hotline doet de temperatuur stijgen met diepe kicks, zware bassen en tropische melodieën. Dim, let je op?
- Onweerstaanbare britpop van Declan McKenna. British Bombs is catchy as hell en barstend van jeugdige energie en onbevangenheid.
- The New Pornographers noteren hun tweede entry in mijn lijst. The Surprise Knock doet totaal niet onder voor de eerste entry, indiepop oorwurm van de bovenste plank.
- Where Is The Man van Zoot Woman heb ik opgepikt uit de lijst van herman. Erg frisse synthpop single.
- Ik begin inmiddels toch aardig warm te lopen voor Georgia. Never Let You Go is de ijzersterke nieuwe single, wellicht een voorbode voor een erg fijn synthpop album.
- Blankenship van DIIV is een van de meest spannende gitaarplaten die ik dit jaar heb gehoord. Hij is nog niet volledig geland, maar ik verwacht dat dit een groeibriljantje is.

20. Storken - Lille Vals: Puntgave italo / electro van Gerd Janson's Running Back label. Mag wat mij betreft een moderne klassieker worden.
26. Jacques Renault - Don't Wanna Stop [DJ Boring Remix]: Zonder herman had ik deze dikke housetrack niet opgepikt - waarvoor dank!
27. Boards of Canada - XYZ: Deze had ik al wel op de radar, maar Herman geeft hem in de post waarin hij hem nomineert wel een goeie introductie mee.
30. Blockhead - Life Support: Overtuigende instrumentale hiphoptrack van deze veteraan.
32. Danny Brown ft. Run the Jewels - 3 Tearz: Een droomteam, maar de derde single van Danny's nieuwe album vind ik vooralsnog de zwakste.
33. Om Unit & Djrum - Ruins: Nog een droomteam, zowel d&bveteraan Om Unit als Djrum (die een unieke mix van dubstep en techno maakt) brengen hun A-game. Deze track heeft flinke groeipotentie, verwacht ik.
35. Will Saul - Room 9: Het beste wat ik tot nu toe van deze producer gehoord heb, deze wollige ambient housetrack. Het klinkt een beetje als de muziek van Lone.
38. Romare - Gone: Romare maakt downtempo techno met hiphopinvloeden, en voegt hier op Gone wat dubstep aan toe. Misschien wat minder spannend dan zijn oude werk, maar wel lekker.
39. Clipping - Blood of the Fang: Nog niet zo vaak gehoord, maar ik laat deze van Clipping / clipping. alvast binnenkomen, want het is duidelijk weer een knaller van heb ik jou daar.

Ik dacht dat ik een beetje klaar was met The Slow Show. Toch pakt dit nummer mij weer zodanig, dat het de hoogste positie van Alex The Astronaut heeft overgenomen. Hopelijk volgende week in Utrecht genieten. Vorig jaar was een drama, maar het was daar toen ook snikheet. Ging bijna van m'n houtje.
Binnenkomers deze week van "clipping." uit de lijst van Dance Lover, heerlijk nummer. Verder een tweede single van Creep Show (met John Grant), die in juni al de derde plek haalde met "Safe and Sound" en ook van flor die al een bescheiden notering had met het nummer "ley lines". Ook nieuw Thom Yorke en Bat for Lashes en als hekkensluiter Mal Blum met See Me

week 41 van 2019 met een nieuwe nummer 1 en 5 binnenkomers (waarvan 3 nederlandse bands, dat kon de lijst wel gebruiken na het wegvallen van een aantal langenoteerde, nu staan er weer 8 in).
EUT bracht vorig jaar hun debuutalbum uit, heerlijk album. De nieuwe single nu doet daar weinig voor onder.
Donna Blue is een duo dat al eerder in mijn lijst ston; hun muziek blijft spannend en broeierig met Gainsbourg en Twin Peaks invloeden
Honeyblood was op de eerste 2 albums een duo, maar mede door wisselende drummers besloot de zangeres dat ze ook wel als soloact verder kon. Het eerste album daarna viel me echter wel tegen. Nu is er alweer een nieuwe single en die gaat veel meer verder waar ze als band gebleven was.
Mooon heeft recent hun 2e album uitgebracht vol 60s pop. In December ga ik ze nog zien in Ekko.
Seaside komt uit Austalie en speelt pop/rock met duidelijke dreampop invloeden.

- Weer een nieuwe nummer 1. Deze week ging het tussen twee nummers van twee verschillende artiesten die hun album deze week uit hebben. Ik ben deze week voor Elbow met Empires gegaan, maar dat kan volgende week ook weer anders zijn.
- De hoogste nieuwe binnenkomer is van een oudgediende in de vorm van The Who. Ik vind All This Music Will Fade echt een heerlijk nummer.
- Verder een tweede nummer van Big Thief met Forgotten Eyes. Weer een prachtig nummer en wat hou ik van de stem van Adrianne Lenker.
- Ook een tweede notering voor Elbow. White Noise White Heat heeft prachtige lyrics en is een van de hoogtepunten van het nieuwe album.
- De grootste stijger deze week is van Taylor Swift met Lover. Het was al mijn favoriete nummer van het album, maar werd echt omver geblazen tijdens haar vertolking van dit nummer bij SNL. Voor het optreden zie de video onderaan dit bericht.
