Harder, sneller, korter. De nieuwe Pearl Jam is net aan twee minuten, maar dan wel de volledige tijd vol gas. Wat een heerlijke rammer van de mannen! Too Much staat nog in de top 5, maar opvolger DOING IT AGAIN BABY kwam niet verder dan mijn tiplijst. Nu is single #3 er en You Need Me Now? is dan wel weer een voltreffer. Op de nieuwe single roept Marie letterlijk de hulp in van de Amerikaanse Sabrina Carpenter. Een prima combi wat mij betreft.




De samenwerking van Beth Hart met Walter Trout is onderweg richting uitgang, maar Beth brengt met Little Heartbreak Girl een heerlijke pianoballad uit, zoals ze dat zo fijn kan met haar unieke stemgeluid. De muziek van Marathon is het vaak net niet bij mij. Het zou me wel moeten liggen, maar vaak klikt het niet helemaal. Mind vormt hierop nu een uitzondering, deze bevalt me te goed om te laten liggen. Het doet me erg denken aan Generation Game van The Lounge Society, dan is het ook niet gek dat ik het goed vind! Voor Sea Girls is de drempel vaak aanmerkelijk lager, ook Midnight Butterflies stapt, zij het voorzichtig, makkelijk over de drempel van de bovenste 40.

Beste nieuwe track en hoogste binnenkomer van deze week is Thandaza. Opnieuw een fraai staaltje afro house, zoals ik het maar even noem, in de Trotse 30. Keinemusik is de uitvoerende eenheid met de dj’s Rampa, &ME en Adam Port. Verder wordt er nog op meegewerkt door Alan Dixon, die verantwoordelijk is voor de mooie pianolijnen, en de voor mij onbekende Zuid-Afrikaanse producer Arabic Piano. Topnummer! Verder wil ik nog de 90s clubhouse van de Berlijnse dj en producer Cinthie uitlichten. Het origineel van Won't U Take Me komt uit 2023, maar de Dam Swindle remix geeft het nummer nieuw en fris elan. Ook nog nieuw de Amsterdamse indiepop van Loupe. Ze hebben al enkele singles uitgebracht, maar ze halen nu voor het eerst mijn lijst met het fijne Forest Of Our Memories.

- Maruja is een band uit Manchester met zo te horen een fijne post-punkattitude, al is het muzikaal veel breder dan dat met postrock-achtige gitaarcrescendo's, saxofoongetoeter en dit alles dan weer rustig en dromerig en vervolgens weer stevig en uitzinnig.
Eerlijk gezegd dacht ik dit allang hoog in de weeklijst zou staan hier (omdat het me typisch een MuMe-ding lijkt), maar ik zie dat ik de eerste ben die dit in zijn eigen lijst zet.
Voor fans van Squid, Black Country New Road, e.d. voor wie het wat avontuurlijker mag wel een aanrader dit.
- Waxahatchee zie ik dan wel weer in allerlei lijstjes terug. Ze is me wel vaker opgevallen, maar nog niet eerder pakte een single van haar me zo als deze. I.s.m. MJ Lenderman die de tweede stem verzorgt heeft ze wel een echte countryparel uitgebracht.
- Julia Holter laat op haar nieuwe single wel een heel bijzonder geluid horen. Het is alsof ze een psychedelische droom in muziek heeft weten te vangen, er gebeurt vanalles en ik weet nog niet of de verbanden wel zo logisch zijn, maar ik laat het graag over me heenkomen zoals je een droom ook gewoon beleeft. Lang geleden dat ik zo door een nummer van haar werd betoverd.
- Lucky Fonz III's nieuwe is dan weer heel andere koek: uptempo synthpopplaatje waarin hij afrekent met zijn ex-geliefde. Tekstueel is het niet per se vrolijk, maar de muziek en de intonatie geeft er een heel andere wending aan.
- Vampire Weekend's Capricorn is een typisch Vampire Weekend-liedje, maar het had wel even nodig om mijn lijst te halen en of het veel hoger komt dan dit moet ik nog maar afwachten. Alles wat ik mooi en goed vond aan VW zit er wel in, maar een echte connectie ontbreekt nog.
- Isobel Campbell zong vroeger bij Belle and Sebastian en dat is goed hoorbaar. Dit had zo een EP-track uit pakweg 1998 kunnen zijn.
- Joost Klein (op Spotify eenvoudigweg Joost genoemd) en Europapa, die moet toch eigenlijk ook wel binnenkomen. Komt hier best vaak voorbij en ik ben het nummer nog steeds niet zat. Vind het pro-Europese en de link naar zijn vader ook wel heel mooi eigenlijk.

Is best een MuMe-ding maar wel op een andere plek. Dit is veel meer Song van het Jaar-muziek. Daar heeft Maruja volgens mij ook al een aantal keer uitstekend gescoord. Geldt trouwens ook voor bands als BCNR en Squid: meer SvhJ-muziek dan MuMeAfrekening-muziek.

Ah, daar zit wel iets in. Helaas kom ik er niet meer aan toe dat topic te volgen, al leverde me dat altijd wel wat bijzondere tips op. Had wel het idee dat BCNR hier een paar jaar terug ook goed scoorde, maar misschien klopt dat ook niet helemaal.

Klopt zeker wel herman; BCNR scoorde tussen 2019 en 2022 acht keer, allemaal top 10

Een fijne Britse rockband aan Liverpool staat stevig aan het front. Het album ''Afraid of Tomorrows'' ligt vanaf juni in de schappen. Tot dan toe, zijn we nog wel even zoet met dit.

''Zin in de zomer'', is een veelgehoorde kreet momenteel! Dat zit met deze nieuwe van Vampire Weekend wel goed. Wat laten de mannen het zonnetje uitbundig schijnen hier.

De mede-collega's van dit topic over 1999 kunnen trots zijn: de jaren '90 tellen 25 jaar later nog gewoon mee, met nieuwe songs van Travis, Elbow en Pearl Jam.
Prettig dat deze bands niet alleen nog meetellen maar ook nog steeds prima muziek afleveren.

The Amsterdam Red Light District is geen Nederlandse band maar een Franse. En ze maken herrie als de beste, alleen neigt het dan wel naar grunten. Dusdanig, ze steken er zelfs Bring me the Horizon er mee naar de kroon.

L'Objectif en Jaws the Shark zijn dan de bands van de afgelopen jaren die vol op stoom liggen. Dat wil zeggen, het allereerste album van Jaws the Shark ligt pas 19 juli in de winkels en L'Objectif heeft pas twee EP's achter de rug. Ja, dan ben je pas een broekie. En dan al zulke goede muziek...
