Het mooie van nieuwe nummers is een soort van automatische verplichting om het weer even tot je te nemen. Goed of slecht, het loopt allemaal door elkaar heen.
Nieuwe namen ook waar je nog nooit van hebt gehoord als Josef K (absoluut het beluisteren waard) en Joachim Witt (Deutsche Welle).

Tony Basil, de Tom Tom Club, Odyssey en Depeche Mode daarentegen waren door 1981 allemaal bekend. Uiteindelijk hebben we met zes nieuwe namen een behoorlijke grote schoonmaak gehouden.

Nummers met echt heel veel punten in onze lijst komen we steeds minder tegen. Dat betekent maar één ding: we zijn het momenteel niet echt eens over gezamenlijke grote hits. De Specials stijgen dan bijzonder genoeg van 7 naar 1 (toevalliger wijs werd precies dezelfde sprong gemaakt bij ondergetekende en pureshores (de kans dat dit onbewust voor komt, drie keer, is vrijwel nihil).

Maar hoewel de Specials drie keer op één staan zijn er slechts 7 noteringen. En dat is met twaalf medesamenstellers weinig. Tien of elf stemmen krijgen is niet uitzonderlijk.

De Tom Tom Club en de Specials deden deze week hele goede zaken, terwijl qua inleveren Kim Wilde (-36), Elton John (-30, verdwenen) tot de grootste verliezers behoren.

Wat ik ook bijzonder vindt, is dat Talking Heads-leden vlak na hun topper Remain in light voor solo projecten direct de studio in zijn gedoken en de Talking Heads even links lieten liggen. Niet alleen voor de Tom Tom Club. Maar ook David Byrne meldde zich voor deelname aan een album met Brian Eno. De solo-projecten moesten duidelijk luchtiger. Maar of het ook beter is.... dat laat ik aan de beoordelaars.

Joe Jackson vond het tijd een album te maken met de muziek waar hij écht van hield: jazz/big band/beat.
En dat betekent dat je daar van moet houden. Maar zo ja, dan is Jumpin' jive een prima single.

En soms komen artiesten zo maar weer eens onverwacht aanwaaien met een sterke song: Jean Michel Jarre heeft een prachtige instrumentale, in het Frans ook nog, Les Chants magnetique.

En dan twee Nederlandse artiesten. Zowel Boeijen als de Amazing Stroopwafels zouden enkele keren sowieso terug keren in de lijsten. Maar leuke muziek en grappige teksten.

Wie van James Bond houdt kan zijn hart ophalen met een ijzingwekkende For your eyes only. Ex Rolling Stone Wyman komt met een pop-single, het Frans had hij beter kunnen overlaten aan Jarre.
Styx heeft een volgende (weer interessante) single van Paradise Theatre en wie Only crying van Keith Marschall goed vond, Silver and diamonds is daar het tweelingbroertje van.

Elkaar net gemist

week 26 voor 1981 met Kim en Kirsty aan de top, vier nieuwe.
Bram Tchaikovsky heb ik het eerste album van, deze single is van de derde die ook zeker ok klinkt. Ondanks dat ze brits zijn heb ik deze uit de US charts. Dat geldt minder verrassend ook voor Prince die ook nog geëerd wordt met een cover door Bette Bright die daarmee echter geen enkele chart haalde.

We zijn halverwege het jaar, en ik weet niet of dat vooropgezet was, maar er heeft toch wel een behoorlijke slachting plaatsgevonden.

Ik zag dit niet aankomen, maar misschien was iedereen naarstig op zoek naar zomerplaten. Ik kan het plotselinge succes van Maywood anders niet verklaren. Zelf draai ik ook een zomerse jaren '50 collectie

(de compilatie staat niet op onze site).

Maywood racet naar boven met +28 en stond de vorige keer net niet genoteerd. Dat verklaart niet alleen die vierde plaats. Het gebrek aan punten aan de bovenzijde van onze lijst maakt de schommelingen, zoals we die nu zien in de top 10, veel beter mogelijk. En daarom zijn er ook van deze schommelingen.

Dat neemt niet weg dat de gehele top 7 een prachtige winst maakt en ze het alle 7 prima hebben gedaan. Maar ik sluit niet uit dat het volgende week weer anders is. En ik had al geen glazen bol.

Zo zou ik vorige week ook al niet voorspeld hebben dat Tony Basil (nu plek 31), Oddysey (25) en Imagination (22) deze week al weer zouden zijn verdwenen. Met puntverlies van respectievelijk -12, -4 en -25.

Het verdoezelt nog een beetje het verlies van Kim Wilde (-29) en Grace Jones (-20) ook al hebben die hun carriere met Chequered love en I've seen that face before inmiddels achter zich liggen.

Voorlopig lijken de Specials (doen het prima bij warm weer) nog nergens last van te hebben. Ze staan soeverein aan kop.

Ik heb echt heel diep moeten graven voor bijgaande zes nieuwe songs. Niet dat ze slecht zijn, de liefhebbers van Rheingold kunnen hun hart ophalen met Fanfanfanatisch.

Dexys Midnight Runners beginnen warm te draaien. De Undertones hebben best een aardige opvolger.
Misschien is/was mijn stemming niet al te best: dan erger je je ook al snel aan mindere singles.

Maar je luistert weet ik hoeveel tips af. Juni had ook nog een hele rits aan ongebruikte tips. Juli is net begonnen. Maar het was allemaal niet best en ook wel begrijpelijk dat ik het allemaal liet liggen. Het zogenaamde betere werk, van bands als Bauhaus, Mental as Anything, Palais Schaumburg. Ook Bob Dylan was irritant aan het mekkeren. De aantrekkelijkheid was ver te zoeken.
Het werkte niet sfeer verhogend allemaal.

En zo ga je dan al gauw 30 tips af en kom je uiteindelijk zelfs bij het tweede deel van Stars on 45 uit. Het Abba-deel.
Maar het is voor mij allemaal geen top.
Uit pure frustratie heb ik drie veel te dure singles bij Discogs gekocht.

En dan bezorg je iemand op Discogs dan toch een leuke dag

week 27 voor 1981 met Kim en Kirsty vooralsnog onbedreigd op 1 en 2. Vijf binnenkomers, Bauhaus uit de UK charts en 3 andere uit de tipparade.
Eind 80s/begin 90s ging ik vaak naar tweedehandsplatenzaken en rommelmarkten of platenbeurzen waar de bakken singles met bv 10 voor 5 gulden of 15 voor 10 gulden o.i.d. een grote aantrekkingskracht hadden. Soms vind je dan 7 of 8 die je wil maar wil toch tot 10 komen (of je hebt 11 en wil naar de 15) dan kijk je nog eens of er niks onbekends staat wat er interessant uit ziet. Zo ben ik ook aan de singles van Rayke en Alice's Joy gekomen die nu tegelijk m'n lijst binnenkomen.
Rayke klinkt een beetje als een nederlandse Suzi Quatro, waar ik ook wel op hoopte op basis van de hoes. Ze komt deze week de tipparade binnen met wat volgens mij haar enige single is.Op de achterkant van de singlehoes overigens een complete ingevulde vragenlijst waaruit oa blijkt dat ze uit Amsterdam komt en fan is van Bruce Springsteen en Mork & Mindy
Alice's Joy is meer standaard 80s dance pop, ook nederlands en die hebben maar liefst 2 singles gemaakt, geen tipparade gehaald overigens.

Voor de 5e week op rij een nieuwe nummer 1. Eens kijken of Wordy Rappinghood het langer dan één week gaat uithouden.

Opvallende nieuwkomer op 25 van Roni Griffith. Geproduceerd door Bobby Orlando en dat is goed te horen. Klinkt als een blauwdruk voor Hi-NRG hit Passion van The Flirts. Ik kwam er vandaag achter dat er een sample van Desire zit in de fijne eurodance hit Another Night van Real McCoy.

Jammer dat nico1616 afgehaakt lijkt. Ik vond z’n lijstjes altijd wel leuk. Vind het wel een gemis hier.
