Ik loop nu mijn bronnen na op zoek naar tips, waaronder ook de laatste weken aan afleveringen van de John Peel Show op de BBC.
In de laatste anderhalve week van 1981 zond Peel zijn ‘Festive Fifty’ in etappes uit. Misschien leuk om hier te delen. Grappig detail: wie de volledige lijst wilde hebben, kon een gefrankeerde retourenvelop opsturen en kreeg hem teruggestuurd. Het zijn lang niet allemaal singles, en sommige nummers komen in meerdere jaarlijsten terug.

Het is volgens RYM de hoogstgewaardeerde Stones-singles uit de jaren '80 en eerder vond ik hem ook best mooi. Maar op de een of andere manier voel ik deze ook helemaal niet en dat terwijl ik de Stones altijd wel kan waarderen. Heb hem nog aardig wat kansen gegeven, maar bij mij gaat hij het ook niet meer halen.

Flashback vind ik ook minder dan de vorige paar singles. Eigenlijk was Body Talk veruit de beste en wordt het daarna per single ietsje minder. De latere singles ken ik nog niet volgens mij.
En FWO pakkende R&B-grooves, dat klopt inderdaad niet helemaal. Die klinken wat elektronischer waar Imagination soulvoller klinkt. Maar beide songs hebben voor mij wel dezelfde gevoelige verlangende sfeer en lopen qua tempo ook niet erg uiteen. Het voelt in ieder geval heel logisch ze back-to-back te draaien.

week 51 voor 1981 waarin Kim het stokje overneemt van de Go-go's, maar met een snelle stijger in de top 10 en 2 binnenkomers in de top 15 is de vraag voor hoe lang. Dat zien we volgend jaar wel.
Hoogste nieuwe is van The Bangs, een lekker janglepop plaatje. Jawel, niet heel erg veel later zou de band zich hernoemen naar Bangles waarna ze nog grote hits zouden gaan scoren. Zo ver is het nu nog lang niet, ook de bezetting nog niet aangezien op bas nog Anette Ziilinskas speelt. Die doet tegenwoordig live ook weer mee aangezien Michael Steele er mee gestopt is. Later dook ze nog op in de eerste versie van noiseband Medicine trouwens, heel andere muziek. Daar was ze wel weg voor het eerste album (net als bij de Bangles, op de EP deed ze nog wel mee)
Ideal laat ons kennismaken met de zusjes Humpe, nou ja eentje dan, de ander, Inga, kwam een poosje later met haar Neonbabies waar Annette ook nog in begonnen was maar al vertrokken voor de eerst release. Niet dat ze ruzie hadden, ze zingen bv in 1983 samen op Codo van Döf.
Die Doraus und die Marinas zijn eigenlijk vooral de Marinas, Andreas Dorau moet zo'n 2 minuten wachten voor hij z'n vervormde stem laat horen. Niet zo gek dat hij hier niet meer aan herinnerd wil worden maar het heeft toch wel wat onweerstaanbaars door de dwingende synths en damesstemmen. Ontdekt een aantal jaar geleden in het wel vaker door mij genoemde NDW programma op Arte van wat haren geleden, aan elkaar gepraat door Stereo Total.
Kirsty MacColl komt dan nog met een beach boys cover, erg rustig maar het blijft toch Kirsty...

Een nieuwe New Order, die ik toevallig ook al in de 90's op 12" heb gekocht. Ik had toen alleen nog een midprice-verzamelaar en wist niet eens het verschil tussen Blue Monday '83 en Blue Monday '88. Maar een gouden zet, want het is een ijzersterke single. B-kant Cries and Whispers is misschien wel mijn favoriete New Order-nummer überhaupt, wat een onwaarschijnlijk goed nummer is dat.
Kraftwerk's The Model werd ruim 3 jaar na de release van The Man Machine alsnog op single uitgebracht, waarschijnlijk omdat er wel wat momentum werd gevoeld na de release van Computer World. Goede zet, want het is een prachtig nummer en het past ook naadloos bij de synthpop van de jaren '80.
Get Down On It vond ik vroeger altijd zo'n belegen discoklassieker, maar nu kan ik hem wel goed hebben eigenlijk. Best straf ook dat Kool & The Gang over zo'n lange periode zoveel prima singles hebben gemaakt, net als stijlverwanten EW&F overigens, die momenteel wel hard richting uitgang gaan.
Anti-Nowhere League's Street of London is een punkcover van het origineel van Ralph McTell uit 1969, al heb ik jarenlang gedacht dat het een Simon & Garfunkel-nummer was. Beetje een culthitje in mijn studentendiscohol waar ik zo rond 1999/2000 vertoefde.
Onderin nog meer fijn spul uiteraard, waaronder nog een kersthit van Cristina, al lees je dat aan de titel niet af.

The Model werd opnieuw uitgebracht, want is in 1978 ook al op single verschenen. In week 44 van dat jaar kwam de plaat in je lijst binnen.

Dat was geloof ik de Duitse uitgave. Maar verdraaid. Ik kwam hem niet tegen in mijn administratie, maar er stond per ongeluk een filter op het jaartal waardoor 'ie niet meekwam. Hij kwam toen al op 1, dus om hem nu weer een complete chartrun te laten doen... ik begeleid hem de komende weken wel weer richting de uitgang.

De laatste lijst voor 1981! Ik wilde dat ik kon zeggen dat er geen eind aan kon komen aan het afgelopen jaar maar ik vind het letterlijk voorbij gevlogen.
En dan uiteindelijk met een hele spannende finale met de Top 3 en vijf nieuwe binnenkomers.
Hoewel ik blij ben met Frank Zappa, moet er het meest gelet worden op de nieuwe van E.L.O. (+27) die blijkbaar de meeste indruk heeft gemaakt.
Ook Starlette van de B.B. & Q. Band doet hele goede zaken.
Ik wilde eveneens zeggen dat The Model van Kraftwerk een paar jaar terug ook al een hit was, maar ik hou bij een heruitgave uiteraard niemand tegen.
Ik ga rekenen en kom vanaf 26-12 met onze eindlijst, die dan in plukjes gaat worden geplaatst, zoals dat bekend is. Ik heb zelf 26-12 nog een eigen lijst en eindlijst over 1981. Het staat uiteraard iedereen vrij er voor te kiezen ook nog zelf de eigen weeklijst te plaatsen of een weekje vakantie te nemen. Maar ik ga er toch van uit dat iedereen z'n beste nummers over 1981 nog even laat weten.
Dan is de eerste gezamenlijke lijst er weer voor de datum 2-1-1982.

Grote dank Hans voor weer een jaar runnen van dit topic. Knap hoe je dat al vele jaren doet met het nodige enthousiasme. Als we op MuMe lintjes uitdeelden kwam je zeker in aanmerking.
Voor 1982: ik zag dat Discogs een API heeft. Met een script heb ik inmiddels alle relevante singles (minimaal 1 stem en een gemiddelde score van 3 of hoger) opgehaald en naar Excel geëxporteerd. In totaal gaat het om ongeveer 18.000 regels, met grofweg 10.000 unieke singles; de doublures ontstaan omdat dezelfde release per land als aparte uitgave meetelt. Aantal stemmen, gemiddelde score en genres staan er ook bij, dus je kunt vrij gericht filteren op smaak (want 10.000 singles luisteren gaat zelfs mij wat ver). Als iemand interesse heeft, wil ik het bestand best mailen. Nu nog een API voor RYM en 45cat.com en het werk wordt nog makkelijker.

Je vergeet wel een belangrijk detail te vermelden en wel deze:
In 1981 bracht EMI een heruitgave uit met "The Model" als A-kant, wat leidde tot wereldwijd succes en dat Kraftwerk eindelijk zijn welverdiende erkenning kreeg en zich vestigde als één van de meest invloedrijke bands in de elektronische muziek en synthpop, een genre dat ze mede hadden gedefinieerd.
Voor mij is The Model sowieso het Kraftwerknummer bij uitstek en al zou het bij wijze van spreken elk jaar uitgebracht worden dan zou het elk jaar weer in mijn lijst verschijnen dus een "hit" geweest of niet in 1978 ook in het 'nieuwe' jaar verdient Kraftwerk wederom een hitnotering in de diverse lijsten.

Ik zie dat precies andersom, als een nummer in exact dezelfde versie jaren later later (nu dus bij The Model en Money) nog eens uitgebracht word ga ik die niet nog eens of ineens wel in mijn lijst opnemen. Als het een andere versie is zoals bv een remix, akoestische of live versie is dat anders.
Maar goed dat is ook precies de bedoeling in een topic als deze waarin iedereen zijn eigen samengestelde lijst maakt

XTC gaat een voorspoedig 1982 tegemoet, net als de Stranglers. Ze lijken allebei wat meer klantvriendelijk voor het grote publiek geworden en gaan, zeker voor hun doen, zelfs in de hitlijsten groot scoren.
Journey presenteert één van hun grootste tearjerkers uit hun carrière, ook dat waren de jaren '80.
Max Werner had nog een volgende Phil Collins imitatie maar wist er niet meer de Top 40 mee te halen.

Volgens mij is dit de "van te voren te verwachten klapper maar bij niemand echt een klapper geworden" plaat van 1981, was ook snel weer weg

Ik had dan meer bijval verwacht voor de nummers van Daryl Hall & John Oates.
En bij het nummer van Shalamar had ik de namen van pureshores en Martijn Jonkers eigenlijk al als zekerheidje opgeschreven. Ten onrechte, na later bleek
The Quick hadden de pech dat het nummer uitkwam in een periode met veel persoonlijke favorieten. Daardoor hebben ze mijn lijst net niet gehaald. Ze stonden wel lang op mijn shortlist. Doekje voor het bloeden?

6 uit het genoemde lijstje van nummers 1 uit mijn lijst (waarbij Divinyls - Boys in Town net verkeerd om staat qua titel-band).
