En dank uiteraard allemaal weer, 50tracks, Martial en ranboy.
En LucM natuurlijk voor de bespreking van de Tipparade.

Het ligt niet alleen aan de tijdelijke absentie van Poeha, die op dit moment moet afhaken in verband met drukte op het bedrijf, maar de grote schoonmaak is desalniettemin behoorlijk.

De zomerhits van Peter Koelewijn en de Rolling Stones worden zonder pardon aan de kant gezet.
En hoewel nog een warme week in september voor de boeg, worden de hits van Abba, Gary Shearston en Leo Sayer door mij ervaren als de hits van de laatste weken van 1974, begin 1975, dus meer de winterse periode. Zoals eerder gezegd, wij konden als natie behoorlijk achter lopen in verschijningsdata van de diverse nummers.

Wij maken deze tekortkoming uit die tijd met onze lijst meer dan goed.

1. Spooky & Sue - Swingin' On A Star
Een moderne versie van de aloude evergreen van Bing Crosby en eerlijk gezegd hou ik iets meer van de oude versie wegens zijn gezellige nostalgische sfeer al is de versie van Spooky & Sue beslist niet slecht.
Cijfer: 6,5

13. Alvin Stardust - You You You
Je zou beginnen te wensen dat het gedaan werd met de glamrock, dit klinkt gewoonweg als een light versie van Gary Glitter.
Cijfer: 4

20. The Spinners - Then Came You (with Dionne Warwick)
Deze samenwerking levert wat te gladde softsoul maar over de vocalen heb ik niets op aan te merken.
Cijfer: 6,5

28. Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting
Zijn enige hit - denk ik - maar mag ik steeds graag horen. Prima krachtige soulvolle zang die het plezierige nummer de nodige punch geeft.
Cijfer: 8,5

29. The Intruders - She's A Winner
Duidelijk afkomstig uit de Philly-stal aan de productie te horen en degelijke samenzang maar toch te weinig eigenheid om boven het maaiveld in deze stroming te komen.
Cijfer: 6,5

30. Ricky Gorden - Such a night
Tot slot een aardige cover van een nummer die vooral van Elvis bekend is maar het voegt daar niets aan toe.

Nogal wat nieuwe binnenkomers, ook nog van artiesten die behoorlijk van naam zijn, maar ik heb uiteindelijk niet het idee dat zij over drie weken de volledige top 10 zullen bezetten.

Hoewel ik voor Longfellow serenade van Neil Diamond altijd wel een zwak heb gehad en ik ook de zwartgallige humor van Randy Newman zeker kan waarderen en hij een goede song heeft geschreven.

We moeten het even afwachten. Ik heb alvast zitten spieken maar in de komende weken komen er wel wat meer interessante singles uit die kunnen uitgroeien tot topper.

In 1974 maakten we voor het eerst kennis met het zeer fijne stemgeluid van Paul Carrack in de groep Ace met het prachtnummer How Long dat uiteraard geen hit werd in Nederland en een nummer dat nog niets aan glans heeft ingeleverd.

Dit nummer is o.a. ook gecoverd door Lipps, Inc. en Rod Stewart, maar komt geen seconde in de buurt van het origineel al zeg ik het zelf.

Paul Carrack is nog steeds actief met een onlangs uitgebrachte nieuwe cd (These Days) en een tour in Nederland die in oktober start.

De formatie Brother To Brother kon ik niet, maar In The Bottle klinkt erg fijn met dank aan het gezellige fluitje

De opvolger van Rock The Boat heet Rockin' Soul en dan hebben we het over The Hues Corporation en is een leuk feel good plaatje al borduurt het wel behoorlijk voort op Rock The Boat, maar alla …...

Zat er inderdaad aan te komen. Kunnen we eindelijk in Nederland corrigeren dat het nummer alleen in de VS is uitgebracht!

Ik ben wat aan de vroege kant, maar ben een weekendje weg en het maken van een lijst met 50 nummers ter plaatse blijft wat aan de ingewikkelde kant.

Maar de ontwikkelingen zijn overduidelijk. De nieuwe binnenkomers zijn degenen die allen de potentie hebben om de komende maanden te overheersen in de top. Waarbij ten opzichte van de nummers die vorige week al door jullie waren aangedragen ik het verschijnen van de nieuwe singles van Roxy Music, Doug Ashdown, The Shoes en David Essex nog wil vermelden.

Er wacht ons de komende weken veel meer goede nieuwe muziek en in zulke hoeveelheden moet het ook altijd weer teleurstellend uitwerken voor andere singles. En dat gebeurt dan ook, gezien de grote schommelingen omlaag of juist het gebrek aan stijging voor andere recente nieuwe nummers. Het is niet anders....

5. Johnny Hoes - Friet Met Mayonaise
5. Mike Vincent - Friet Met Mayonaise
Twee Nederlandse covers van Gigi L'Amoroso over een Belgisch gerecht waarvan de versie van Mike Vincent nog enigszins te pruimen is.
Cijfer: 3,5 / 5

18. Claude-Michel Schönberg - Le premier pas
Een minder bekende Franse zanger met een nummer dat een beetje wegheeft van Ne Me Quitte Pas. Een beetje theatraal en niet erg bijzonder maar geloofwaardig gebracht.
Cijfer: 6

19. Redbone - One More Time
Niet onaardige funkrock maar het vet was wel van de soep, dit lijkt teveel een doorslag van vroegere werk.
Cijfer: 5,5

21. Boudewijn de Groot - Ik ben Ik
Van het Nederlandstalig werk in die tijd stond Boudewijn de Groot aan de top. Hier heb ik ook niets op aan te merken met even vlotte als meezingbare melodie en tekst.
Cijfer: 8,5

22. Corry - Adieu Cherie, Auf Wiedersehen
De coupletten mogen er zijn maar het erg melige refrein doet de deur dicht.Zij heeft duidelijk ook geluisterd naar Zangeres Zonder Naam.
Cijfer: 3,5

23. Sweet Sensation - Sad Sweet Dreamer
Gladde maar charmante softsoul met melancholieke uitstraling en mooie samenzang. Die saxofoon maakt het nummer af.
Cijfer: 7,5

24. Julien Clerc - Ce n'est rien
Franse nummers kwamen die tijd wel regelmatig in de hitlijsten. Julien Clerc vind ik een fijne, aangename stem hebben en dit vlotte nummer luistert lekker weg.
Cijfer: 8

25. Gloria Gaynor - Honey Bee
Dit neigt naar de latere disco maar beschouw ik nog als soul. Lonkt duidelijk naar de Philly-soul door het ritme en arrangementen maar de prima zang van Gloria Gaynor geeft het een eigen tint.
Cijfer: 7,5

26. Rufus & Chaka Khan - Tell Me Something Good
Dit reggae-achtig nummer klinkt voor die tijd nog wat moderner en gewaagder maar de melodie spreekt mij hier minder aan.
Cijfer: 6

27. Octopus - I'm So In Love With You
De eerste band van Paul Michiels met een cover van Paul Severs dat enkele jaren terug een grote hit in Vlaanderen werd. Niet onaardig maar het klinkt nu wat belegen, zeker in vergelijking met zijn latere (Soulsister)werk.
Cijfer: 5,5

28. Spirit Of St. Louis - Down By The Radio
Aardige, vlotte countryrock in de lijn van Poco en Eagles maar te weinig onderscheidend of origineel. Ik vind niets van terug van deze band op MuMe en zelfs niet op Allmusic.
Cijfer: 6

29. Donna Summer - Denver Dream
Een weinig bekend nummer van Donna Summer, nog voor haar disco-periode. Nochtans geen slecht nummer met drama en haar zang was toen al sterk.
Cijfer: 7

30. Amsterdam - Mary Lou
Simpel en vrij banaal glamrocknummer, deze stroming begon duidelijk aan bloedarmoede te leiden. Ik hoor ook iets in van Status Quo.

Prachtige nieuwe single van The O'Jays! Ik hoorde hem nu voor het eerst door dit overzicht, ik had niet durven hopen dat er ooit nog eens een origineel zou zijn van Now that we found love. Ik zou werkelijk gezworen hebben dat het nummer origineel van Third World zou zijn en had dus geen idee!

Je gelooft nog steeds niet dat het origineel van de O'Jays is musician hebt hier boven Third World als uitvoerende vermeld

De titel hóórt gewoon thuis bij Third World, het is puur automatisme!
