Jawel, maar betreft een debuut en wordt daarom ook niet zomaar bedacht. Ik ben het nummer bij RYM niet tegengekomen en heb daarom bij specifiek deze band geen releasedatum opgezocht. In mijn achterhoofd zit dat ik het t.z.t. dan wel tegen kom.

Maar ik had het op 17 januari nog niet verwacht. Hier bleek jij voor mij al het voorwerk te hebben gedaan. En dat is juist prima, dat we hier elkaar zo mooi kunnen aanvullen.

Het album Stormbringer heb ik altijd redelijk terzijde laten liggen, de titelsong kende ik al jaren van de verzamelaar Deepest Purple, stond daar fraai te wezen tussen alle andere cracks van Deep Purple.

En dank uiteraard allemaal weer voor deze mooie inspanning die is geleverd, 50tracks, Martial, ranboy en johan de witt.
En LucM natuurlijk voor de bespreking van de Tipparade.

Poeha krijgt nog een weekje rust maar zijn laatste lijst levert nu geen punten meer op.
En dat leidt altijd tot aardige schommelingen in onze gezamenlijke lijst. Zoals blijkt met zes nieuwe binnenkomers aan de ene kant en aan de andere kant, nummers die zijn verdwenen wat nog niet had gehoeven.

Dat het Electric Light Orchestra z'n eerste plek zou verliezen stond al wel vast. Desalniettemin toch een keurige prestatie, tot nu toe.

En of Yes dan net zo lang op één blijft staan in onze gezamenlijke lijst als dat ranboy doet vermoeden dat het nummer op één in z'n eigen lijst blijft staan, is nog te bezien! Er is voldoende concurrentie (ook op komst).

Tipparade-lijst van week 5, 1975 - top40.nl

Eigenzinnige en originele popsong, met name de intro met de misthoorn en de aparte instrumentarium zoals de nickelodeon. Weet inderdaad perfect de zeemansfeer te creëren.

14. Jack Jersey And The Jordanaires - I Wonder
Heeft een zekere meligheid maar anderzijds heeft het ook een romantische sfeer door de begeleiding en achtergrondkoor.
Cijfer: 6,5

22. Lemming - Queen Jacula
Glamrock van eigen bodem waarbij de beoogde griezelige sfeer niet uit de verf komt, daarvoor is het te poppy met matig refrein.

23. Freddy Breck - Mit einen bunten Blumenstrauß
Klinkt als zijn vorige hits en dus totaal niets nieuws onder de zon, verder laat ik dit liever over aan bejaarden.

24. The Stylistics - Heavy Fallin' out
Dit soort softsoul kan ik meer verdragen en vocaal is het prima maar het is mij iets te glad mede door de orkestratie.

25. Stevie Wright - Evie
Was eerder actief bij The Easybeats (legendarische hit: Friday on my Mind). Ligt tussen glamrock en blues maar deze song springt er op geen enkel vlak echt uit itt. voornoemde hit.

26. Arne Jansen & Les Cigales - Mooie meisjes
Zoals de meeste schlagers erg clichématig, is wellicht een vertaling van een Duits nummer.

27. Timmy Thomas - You're the Song that I Always Wanted To Sing
Deze man kennen wij nog van Why Can't We Live Together. Dit nummer beklijft merkelijk minder dan die klassieker al is de zang uitstekend.

28. Grand Funk Railroad - Some Kind Of Wonderful
In deze band heb ik mij nooit verdiept maar maar dit plezierige nummer is mij bijgebleven vooral dankzij het erg aanstekelijke ritme.

29. Derek & Cindy - You Bring Out The best Of Me
De vocalen zijn op zich niet onaardig maar het nummer zelf is te zoutloos en te vlak en kan op geen enkel moment beroeren.

30. Gordon Lightfoot - Carefree Highway
Sommigen kunnen met enkel een akoestische gitaar en zang meer dan een heel orkest. Aangename, warme singer-songwriterspop.

Het is wel te verwachten dat Make me Smile van Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel uiteindelijk een sterke stempel op 1975 zullen hebben gedrukt. We zijn net de eerste maand voorbij maar ik denk niet dat het nummer (en terecht) veel tegenwind zal ondervinden, een echte klassieker.

Iets anders is, en dat is iets dat ik in het geheel niet zag aankomen, dat bijvoorbeeld een man als Tom Waits in zijn eerste jaren toch ook prachtige pareltjes kon schrijven en produceren. Je hebt altijd een bepaald beeld van zo'n man en het is dan altijd weer boeiend als uit zijn muziek blijkt dat, in ieder geval in zijn eerste jaren, dat niet klopt. Of in ieder geval dat een man als Waits ook een prachtig kleinood als Blue skies heeft gemaakt.

Ik zie nu wel steeds meer songs in de lijstjes verschijnen die naar mijn gevoel pas over een half jaar of later zouden moeten komen. Dat was de afgelopen jaren ongetwijfeld ook al zo, maar daar viel het mij niet zo op omdat ik die tijd onbewust heb meegemaakt. Nu begint het mij wel te storen, dat het nu zo'n anachronistische lijst wordt. Voorlopig blijf ik nog wel met de lijstjes meehobbelen, maar als ik later dit jaar mijn eigen historische top 10 heb, ga ik die ook volgen, qua tijd. Dan loop ik maar wat maanden achter op de rest...

Ik loop steevast een paar weken achter op de rest, daar ik meestal wacht tot ik een nummer ook daadwerkelijk in een hitlijst heb zien staan (Billboard/UK Hits/NL Top 40).

Fijne verrassing, lekker nummer. Geen echt bekend nummer. Hier houd ik wel van, van die mooie kleine ontdekkingen. Nu ben ik nogal (disco) soul minded. Kan me voorstellen dat anderen dit wat nietszeggend vinden.

Hollands Glorie dat binnen komt knallen op 18 in de vorm van The Shoes met The Hour Comes Nigh tel daar nog de geweldige strot bij op van Theo Van Es en je krijgt een prachtplaat te horen

The Drifters komen ook met een leuke single waar je wel vrolijk van wordt al zeg ik het zelf.

50tracks kwam vorige week met Blue Skies van Tom Waits op de proppen en blijkt een mooie ontdekking te zijn, goed gedaan jochie
Het had overigens ook zomaar een nummer van Springsteen kunnen zijn als je zijn stem er bij denkt imo.

De Guys & Dolls gaan de komende jaren de hits aan elkaar rijgen in Nederland en There's A Whole Lot Of Loving is de eerste daarvan.

Het is nog een hele sprong, met 39 punten nu naar eventueel dik in de 70 punten volgende week. Maar het zou kunnen voor Make me smile van Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel. De plaat heeft de potentie door te groeien naar de eerste plaats maar weten ze dan ook Yes volgende week te verdrijven.

En vlak ook Sailor nog niet uit, de band weet de nummers 2 en 3 van vorige week met gemak te achterhalen en stevig door te stoten naar de tweede plek.
Al met al een spannende aangelegenheid en een Top 5 die geheel uit Engelse artiesten bestaat.

Hun enige (grote) hit maar wel een voltreffer. Pittige, vitale soul dat door het onweerstaanbare ritme lichtjes naar disco lonkt.

16. Carl Douglas - Blue Eyed Soul
Tot mijn verbazing een instrumentaal nummer dat uit de Philly-stal lijkt te komen. Leuk als herkenningstune maar wat te lang uitgesponnen.

18. Mike Rondel - I'm Sorry Sir
Een vergeten nummer, niettemin een best aardige novelty-hit mede door de telefoonstem en licht jazzy toets.

19. Ohio Players - Fire
Eigentijdse funk met vette blazers die het nummer kleuren. Het geluid is wat vlak, de productie had dynamischer gemogen.

26. Gilbert O`Sullivan - You Are You
Deze man is aan het eind van zijn Latijn, dit is teveel een doorslag van eerdere hits. Zijn zang en blazers doen mij wel nog een voldoende geven.

Kende dit nummer niet, een niet onaardig maar ook niet bijzonder funky nummer met soul waarvan ik eerst twijfelde of dat door een man of een vrouw is gezongen.

28. Sandra & Andres - Oh Nous Sommes Tres Amoureux
Het wisselen van Frans en Engels werkt hier niet en het klinkt ook vrij klef door de vocalen en de uitspraak.

Een instrumentale, licht jazzy versie van een nummer dat vooral bekend is door Roberta Flack. Zonder twijfel vakkundig uitgevoerd maar wat langdradig.

Degelijke lichtvoetige akoestische pop met meerstemmig refrein maar melodisch wat eentonig al zorgt die gitaarsolo wel voor afwisseling.

De man op de foto van de hoes van de nieuwe single van Chicago is inderdaad Harry Truman. De oud Amerikaanse president, die in het Witte Huis zat tussen 1945 en 1953. De president die én Amerika na de oorlog uit het slop trok én door de Marshall hulp zorgde voor de wederopbouw van West Europa, dat natuurlijk volledig in puin lag in 1945.

De leden van de band van Chicago waren van de generatie dat ze toch haast niet bewust Truman kunnen hebben meegemaakt. Maar als kind zullen ze een een mooie tijd hebben gehad, eentje in ieder geval waarnaar ze met nostalgie kunnen terug kijken na alle perikelen rond en de impeachment van Richard Nixon in 1974 en de laatste restjes van Vietnam in 1975.

Virigina van Bill Amesbury was al eerder in de lijst een keer aan de beurt geweest. Maar toen werd het niks en ik had mij al voorgenomen het nummer terug te laten keren als het in Nederland een hit zou worden. Dolly Parton bleef hier onbekend maar bracht prima singles uit in de VS getuige The Bargain Store.

Wie deze week voor mij volledig door het ijs zakte, en zo'n single kun je ooit hebben, was Mike Oldfield. Ik zet zijn nummers graag in mijn lijst maar Don Alfonso deed mij echt pijn aan mijn oren. Volstrekt onbekend wat Oldfield hiermee wilde.

En voor Poeha, die vorige week Silver Convention ook al leuk vond, nu dan Jim Gilstrap. Wie geen genoeg kan krijgen van deze muziek kan zijn hart ophalen in het gevarieerde 1975!

Ja die gaat bij mij ook binnenkomen als ik hem spot in een van mijn bronnenlijsten. Lekker nummer.
