Mijn historische top 20 van 24 mei had als rangnummer 100. Ik was dus al bijna 2 jaar bezig (maar daarvoor had ik ook nog een tijd een top 10 en een top 15). In de actuele Mume-afrekening ben ik bij nummer 2395 .
Veel goede tips deze week, ze pasten er niet allemaal in. Sultans of swing dendert meteen binnen op 9; dat lijkt misschien voor de hand liggend, maar destijds kwam diezelfde single maar tot 17. Achteraf te laag dus. In het algemeen is het juist opvallend hoe dichtbij de noteringen in deze top 20 zitten bij de originele noteringen, maar niet altijd dus.

Veel dank voor alle nieuwe lijsten voor het afgelopen weekend van de 20e week van 1978! 50tracks, ranboy, herman, Poeha (lijst van vorige week), Marzipaintree, Justus18, pureshores en johan de witt. luigifort voor support!

LucM had weer een geduldig luisterend oor voor alles wat nieuw was in de Tipparade!

85 singles deze week in alle lijsten en dat aantal is ongewijzigd gebleven.

Even dacht ik dat het niet meer zou gebeuren, een nieuwe binnenkomer. Maar Lindisfarne voorrkomt nog net een unicum: toch nog één nieuwe entree.
Last dance van Donna Summer kwam net nog één puntje tekort.

Toch is er in de lijst heel wat te zien. Er zijn weer eens wat meer punten naar de top toegeschoven. En dat betekent dat een aantal nummers wel puntenwinst had maar toch één of een paar plaatsen moeten dalen.

Dat geldt ook voor Abba, die ik als serieuze kandidaat voor de bovenste plek zou hebben getipt. Maar voorlopig doen de Rolling Stones de beste zaken en voelt Robert Palmer de hete adem van Miss you.

Wat ontbreekt zijn Nederlandstalige platen, voor wie het opvalt. Ik kan mij voorstellen dat het een zware stap is Met de vlam in de pijp van Henk Wijngaard te kiezen. Maar ook Achter de Rhodondenderon van Tol Hanssen blijft ver achter het kleine succes van Big City.

Het nummer van Iggy Pop heet Some Weird Sin, al begaf hij zich ook wel in Some Weird Scene.

Ik weet niet welk woord er bij hem beter van toepassing is....

Het aantal geweldige nieuwe werken neemt weer gigantisch toe. Uiteindelijk 7 nieuwe binnenkomers maar het hadden er ook 30 kunnen zijn. Wat een aanbod.
Ik heb nog nummers laten liggen van o.a. Gerry Rafferty, Cheap trick, Jackson Browne, Billy Joel, Barry Manilow, Gruppo Sportivo, Heart, Meat Loaf en de Rich Kids.

Maar ja. Nieuw plaatwerk van Peter Gabriel en Joe Walsh gaat ook gewoon door. Daarnaast halen andere bands een tweede, derde of zelfs vierde single van hun laatste succesvolle album.

In Nederland hadden we een vrij unieke positie met het uitbrengen van Hold you back van Status Quo. Voor mij in die tijd één van de grootste hits die er in de zomer werden gedraaid. Maar net als de Talking Heads, Kansas en het Electric Light Orchestra komt het allemaal nog niet zo hoog binnen.
Wild West Hero altijd een beetje een vreemde eend in de bijt gevonden van het Out of the Blue album. Wel apart ook.

Ook boven die nieuwe nummers blijft het angstaanjagend sterk en worden er successen nagejaagd. Dat kan een aantal songs helaas in de knop al breken.

1. Long Tall Ernie & The Shakers - Golden Years Of Rock
Hun vorige medley was zo succesvol dat er een opvolger moest komen. Weinig nieuws onder de zon dus maar het is wel erg vermakelijk en daarom toch een hoog cijfer.
Cijfer: 7,5

11. Vader Abraham - Mary Rose
Zijn ballades kan ik doorgaans beter aanhoren dan zijn carnavalschlagers. Wel is het refrein mij te melig.
Cijfer: 5

14. Yvonne Elliman - If I Can´t Have You
Geschreven door de gebroeders Gibb en dan kan het weinig mislopen. Vind ik overigens beter bij haar passen dan bij Bee Gees.

26. Mothers Finest - Piece Of The Rock
Zwarten die rocken, dat zie je niet vaak. Overigens een vooral ritmisch geslaagde song ofschoon dat het enige nummer is wat ik van deze band ken.
Cijfer: 7,5

27. Tavares - More Than A Woman
De impact en succes van Heaven Must Ba en Angel kunnen ze niet meer bereiken maar dit is toch een degelijke en aangename soulsong. Komt net als Yvonne Elliman uit Saturday Night Fever.

28. Don Williams - You're My Best Friend
Relaxte country, wat aan de zoete kant maar goed voor op een late avond.
Cijfer: 6,5

29. Peter Straker - Ragtime Piano Joe
Lang niet meer gehoord en van deze artiest ken ik ook maar dit ene nummer maar het blijft na die jaren een leuk en vrolijk nummer.

30. The Shake Spears - Summertime
Dateert uit de jaren '60, een Belgische band met een ska-bewerking van dit beroemde nummer. Vind ik één van de leukste versies.

Rustig weekje hier, enkel Carly Simon komt binnen. Volgens mij ken ik nog geen 5 nummers van haar, maar toch ben ik wel erg gecharmeerd van die stem. Misschien toch de kennis eens uitbreiden.

Prima zangeres, met toch wel een aantal hits op haar naam. Deze You Belong to Me is een cover. De Doobie Brothers hebben dit een jaar eerder uitgebracht middels het album Livin' on the Fault Line (1977), met die uit duizenden herkenbare stem van Michael McDonald.
Je kent haar vast/mogelijk van nummers als You're So Vain, Coming Around Again, Nobody Does It Better, Haven't Got Time for the Pain en misschien het 1989 hitje It's Hard to Be Tender.

Ten langen leste komt ook Queen binnen, wel wat laat maar dat past wel bij deze single.
Met mijn lijstjes ben ik ook wat laat. Ik heb de afgelopen dagen behoorlijk wat tijd gestoken in diverse relaties.
Om met de binnenkomer van Tod Rundgren te spreken: Things are not always what they seem....

Nou, ik vond heel wat goede links met de zoekopdracht Dildo's Help Me Loving You maar helaas niet de juiste.

Totdat mijn vrouw zich afvroeg waar ik nou weer mee bezig was.
50tracks helpen zei ik nog maar dat hielp niet echt.

Gisteravond heb ik met een Haagse vriend rechtstreeks een voetbalwedstrijd bekeken tussen de derde stad van Nederland en de derde club van Rotterdam. De eindstand na 90 minuten paste wel bij deze clubs. Dat bleek echter een tussenstand te zijn.
Vooraf had mijn vriend mij nog uitgelegd wat een Haags kwartiertje betekent. Vergelijkbaar met een Duitse laatste minuut vroeg ik nog, alleen doen jullie er 15 keer langer over?

Het werd uiteindelijk een hele lange bizarre avond. Ik heb nog heel wat nazorg moeten doen. Kortom veel later dan gebruikelijk is hier dan toch mijn top 40.

De hoogste binnenvlieger, Airport, had ik eigenlijk gepland begin juni,
maar ik kon niet langer wachten, wat eigenlijk niet past bij deze single.

Verder was ik verrast door Steely Dan, vroeger was ik bepaald geen fan.
Maar momenteel hou ik er wel van.

83 singles deze week in alle lijsten, weer twee minder dan vorige week.

De Rolling Stones stijgen door naar de eerste positie, nu dat was wel te voorspellen. Ook de Dire Straits klassieker Sultans of Swing dendert de lijst binnen.
Ik denk alleen niet, dat de eerste plek volgende week al voorhanden is.

Ik had AC/DC eigenlijk al wel verwacht, maar qua positie reikt het nummer nog slechts tot 30.
Donna Summer hikte vorige week al tegen de lijst aan en ook Kraftwerk was wel te verwachten.
X-ray Specs heeft enkele fanatieke aanhangers onder ons. Ruim voldoende om ook binnen te komen in de lijst.

De grootste kanshebber voor volgende week om binnen te komen lijkt mij Airport van de Motors. Die zou nu op nummer 22 staan.

Hoe zou het komen, dat in 1978 het originele Surrender van Cheap Trick helemaal niks is geworden, terwijl volgend jaar, afgehaald van het live album At Budokan, Surrender wél een grote hit gaat worden.
Het zijn van die kleine raadseltjes.
Misschien omdat het de opvolger was van de nummer één hit I want you to want me.

Maar zo heel erg verschillen de beide singles niet van elkaar.

En dan mijn Deliver your children/I've had enough worsteling met Paul McCartney & Wings. Het London town album gaat mij na aan het hart. Maar er gebeurde hier wat merkwaardigs. Ja, ik denk dat I've had enough de oorspronkelijke A-kant was en ja, ik denk ook dat er heel snel werd geswitched naar Deliver your children als A-kant. En terecht.

En dat leidde in Nederland tot wat omzetting ook van de platenmaatschappij. De A-kant van McCartney singles van London town was blauw, de B-kant grijs.

De platenmaatschappij kreeg spijt van I've had enough en veranderde voor het uitkomen de kleur van het papier van de single bij Deliver your children nog snel in blauw:

Daardoor kwam bij de DJ's de blauwe kant automatisch boven te liggen en werd Deliver your children gespeeld.
De tekst, wie alles met een loep goed bekijkt, werd echter niet door de platenmaatschappij aangepast.
En daar weer door ontstond er een boeiende discussie over wat nu als A-kant en wat als B-kant moest worden gezien.

Ik koos zelf onvoorwaardelijk voor Deliver your children. Zowaar gezongen door Denny Laine. Door hem ook geschreven. Een veel betere track. Psychologie van de kouwe grond.
