Ik heb zelf geen tijd om tientallen nummers te beluisteren, aangezien ik aan 5 van deze topics meedoe en andere dingen nog op MuMe, vandaar dat ik vaak de bekende releases van de anderen overneem..

- 'Don't Bring Me Down' van The Animals is goed maar er is in 1966 juist teveel goede concurrentie om mijn top 20 te halen (zoveel zelfs dat bij mij de langst genoteerde single slechts 7 weken in de top 40 staat).
- Het is soms ook opvallend hoe groot de overeenkomst is tussen de Veronica top 40 en onze lijstjes. Er staan maar vijf nummers in de top 40 van 11 juni 1966 die (nog) niet in onze lijstjes zijn doorgedrongen. Van deze vijf haalden er maar twee geen voldoende bij LucM (Corsica d'amore en Ella Ella) en ik ben het hier met hem eens.

Country Joe & The Fish heb ik door de bandnaam altijd links laten liggen. Ik dacht dat het een country of bluesgrass-band was en dat heeft niet mijn interesse.
Maar Section 43 was een enorme verrassing. Het eerste stuk had zo van Can kunnen zijn, lekker psychedelisch. Vanochtend heb ik gelijk hun debuutalbum beluisterd en dat was zeer aangenaam wakker worden.

Mina is een Italiaanse italopopzangeres. Dit nummer is medegeschreven door Ennio Morricone.

Oei, moeilijke vraag . Ik ben door informatie vanuit allerlei websites en boeken tot een antwoord gekomen.

Alton Scott was DJ die vanaf 1965 zijn eigen singles uitbracht via de platenzaak van Ruth Dolphin die eerder al met haar in 1958 vermoorde man een platenlabel Money records had. Op dat label ging hij verder samen met Ruth vanaf september 1964. Hij had ook nog andere labels zoals Ten Star en had daarmee eind februari een hit in de R&B lijsten met the fat man.
De singles van Money records werden vooral uitgebracht in de periode augustus tot juni want dat viel samen met promotie-radiouitzendingen die hij vanuit de platenzaak deed. Begin 66 was Alton vooral actief op het Ten Star label en werd er minder op Money uitgebracht wat in 1966 ook niet echt zijn naam eer aan deed als het om geldopbrengsten ging.
Uit eerbetoon aan Sam Cooke nam bijvoorbeeld Ted Hawkins in de tweede helft van 1966 twee eigen composities op maar kreeg geen royalties en ging verder als straatzanger.
Er zat enige tijdsruimte in het uitbrengen van de singles (vanwege promotiedoeleinden) en zoals bij veel labels loopt de catologus nummering chronologisch.

Die van Bobby Angelle zijn dus van oktober 1966 en januari 1967 qua release. Bij sommige andere singles moet ik een slag om de arm houden van twee maanden.
Je komt wel weer met een goudmijntje aan, 50tracks .

Zo dat is nog eens een leuke speurtocht geworden, veel mooie nummers. Thnx Marzipaintree en heicro. Overigens wel opvallend dat de "voor de hand liggende bronnen" voor Living Lie meestal 1966 als releasejaar geven.

The Beatles weet The Kinks van zich af te schudden. 'Paperback Writer' heeft bij alle deelnemers een top 10 postitie.
Bob Dylan komt hoger dan verwacht op 6 binnen en de bij de meesten onbekende EP van Country Joe And The Fish weet zich al na twee weken onder de 20 beste te scharen.

Dat klopt. Er zijn een aantal minder voor de hand liggende bronnen die naar mijn mening terecht 1967 benoemen:

Money records liet zijn vinyl persen bij Monarch records. Als je de single hebt zie je een klein nummertje op het vinyl geperst staan, het zogenaamde delta nummer. In cat 45 worden de deltanummers veelal genoemd bij het commentaar zoals hier.

Ik had jullie deze informatie, die eigenlijk voor nerds is , in dit topic willen besparen maar ik had genoteerd bij Bobby Angelle nummer 64594 en dan had je als productiemaand in december 1966 gezeten en als releasemaand januari 1967. Dit was ook logischer geweest gezien de catalogus nummering van Money records die lager is dan bij Bettye Swann.

Het lukte Chris Farlowe met zijn fantastische cover 'Out Of Time' om het origineel van The Rolling Stones naar de kroon te steken. Dankzij de briljante bewerking van het nummer en zijn energieke stem reduceert hij de Stones versie tot een saaie demo.

Na mijn eerdere mislukte poging een paar maanden geleden komt Jacques Dutronc eindelijk binnen in mijn lijstje met zijn buitengewone hippe 'Mini, Mini, Mini' en 'Et Moi, Et Moi, Et Moi'. Heerlijke primitieve en simplistische New Wave. Tien jaar eerder dan deze stroming ontstond. Jacques Dutronc was in 1966 een trendsetter, maar het drong niet door buiten Frankrijk. De Britten en de Amerikanen waren immers toonaangevend.
Het misschien wel nog betere Et Moi, Et Moi, Et Moi mag ik jullie niet onthouden. Luister: Et Moi, Et Moi, Et Moi Punk van het beste soort. Johnny Rotten en zijn vriendjes van The Sex Pistols zaten nog op de kleuterschool.

The Mamas and Papas bleven in totaal maar drie jaar bij elkaar, ondanks het enorme succes.
De mooie zangeres Michelle was getrouwd met één van de bandleden en had een affaire met de andere en het tweede vrouwelijke lid, de corpulente Mama Cass was heimelijk verliefd op één van de Papas. Dit kwam de sfeer natuurlijk niet ten goede. Nadat Mama Cass op een feestje door bandlid John ten overstaan van aanwezigen op een grove wijze werd beledigd verliet zij de band.

Georgie Fame komt weer origineel uit de hoek met zijn jazzy 'Getaway'. Het ligt in het verlengde van 'Yeh, Yeh', maar dat nummer vind ik net iets leuker.

Deze week geen nieuwkomer die niet ook al in een lijstje van een ander panellid voorkomt.

Ik lees hier regelmatig over carnavalsmuziek 50 jaar geleden, maar de echte carnavalsmuziek haalde de hitparade tot 1968 nauwelijks. Je had in 1966 Wiel Verweijst in Venlo met "Den Alde Kleiëerskasen" en Tony Bass uit Eindhoven met "Wij Maken Lempkes Op 't Fabriek" maar zij scoorden uitsluitend lokale hits.
Pas vanaf Toon Hermans en zijn "Mien waar is mijn feestneus" werden met echte nationale carnavalsmuziek geconfronteerd.

Maar je krijgt de indruk dat het toch het hele jaar carnaval is.
Het is fijn dat dit duo een melige afterbeach VVV-versie hebben weten te maken met diverse locaties op Terschelling (Brandaris, Paal negen, Hoorn, etc.).
En we moeten dit natuurlijk ook niet te serieus nemen. Niet voor niets prijken op de hoezen van dit echtpaar regelmatig alcoholische versnaperingen. Dus dit soort muziek moeten we dan ook niet nuchter beoordelen.

Maar zelfs dan wordt ik niet vrolijk. De kater volgt al tijdens het drinken.
Want het had zo veel fijner kunnen zijn:
Een bromnozem op West-Terschelling, Die nam met 'n bloedgang een helling
Hij scheerde de grond, kreeg een gat in z'n kop
En een buil op z'n tweede versnelling
Er wordt hier van een limerick en bovendien van de actualiteit gebruik gemaakt. Want volgens mij wordt hier gerefereerd naar Provo student Bart Huges die in 1965 een gaatje in zijn hoofd boorde.
Maar als je een limerick maakt dan moet het rijmschema a-a-b-b-a kloppen. Grond en kop rijmen niet. Fijner was geweest:
Hij scheerde de top, kreeg een gat in zijn kop. En werd high op zijn tweede versnelling.

Deze single lijkt te passen in de traditie van Willy Alfredo. Een man met hoed die in de jaren 50 en 60 op elk rijmwoord een sneldicht wist te rijmen onder het mom van roept u maar. De la la la la van Max Anders heeft dezelfde riedel als waar Willy gebruik van maakte. Bij Willy moest het ook altijd fijn en gezellig blijven.
Frans Halsema maakte in 1968 hier een persiflage op die niet op single is verschenen:
Roept u maar. Biaffra Wat zegt u? Biaffra!"
In Biaffra, daar heerst honger, dat is een grote ramp
De vrouwen en de kindertjes, die barsten van de kramp
Ze sterven daar bij bosjes, iedereen heeft diarree
Maar, we zitten hier gezellig en we zitten hier oké

Het is fijn op Terschelling. Opmerkelijk dat Max en Betsy Anders hier in de zomer van 1966 een hit mee wisten te scoren. Helemaal met de lage beoordeling van LucM eens.

En dat terwijl in het humoristische en toeristische genre in juni 1966 Margootje van Wim Sonneveld op single verscheen. Hier valt weinig aan te merken aan rijmschema, metrum en voordracht. En een opmerkelijke originele tekst. Max en Betsy hielden het acht weken in de top 40 vol, Wim haalde geen top 40 notering.

Volgens mij heeft LucM nooit eerder zo hoog gescoord met een half jaar top 40.
En er zijn al aardig wat jaartjes geweest. Het lijkt erop dat 1966 wel eens het beste jaar van de top 40 kan gaan worden volgens LucM.
