Op de bekende hits na brachten The Zombies tussen 1964 en 1968 aan de lopende band kwaliteitssingletjes die weinig tot niets deden in de lijsten. Het jazzy I Want You Back Again is hier een voorbeeld van.
Na Go Now vind ik From The Bottom Of My Heart, geschreven en gezongen door medeoprichter van Wings Denny Laine, weer een fantastisch nummer.
The Byrds werd langzaam maar zeker een band met wereldfaam. All I Really Want To Do was een waardige opvolger van Mr. Tambourine Man.
Jackie Wilson van het bekende Reet Petite laat hogeschool zangkunst horen met No Pity (In the Naked City).
Billy Joe Royal, ook bekend van Hush uit 1967 had met Down In The Boondocks een grote hit.

Destijds had het een re-release nodig om twee jaar na de opname een bescheiden hitje in Amerika te worden, maar 50 jaar later haalt het op Musicmeter een nummer 1 positie. Terecht, want het is een geweldig nummer.
Er zijn niet veel veranderingen. Waaruit blijkt dat we met topnummers te maken hebben. Na vele weken in de top verdwijnt Mr. Tambourine Man van The Byrds om plaats te maken voor Bob Dylan's Maggie's Farm. Keer op keer blijkt dat de deelnemers de echte goede nummers op juiste waarde weten in te schatten. Maggie's Farm gooide 50 jaar geleden ook geen hoge ogen. Verder dan een 22e plek in de Britse charts kwam het niet. Bob Dylan komt anno 2015 op 6 binnen.

Top 40: week 26 van 1965.

33. The Byrds - Mr. Tambourine Man
Hun eerste hit waarbij ze een Dylan-nummer voorzien van hun kenmerkende samenzang en gitaarsound waarmee het toch al sterke origineel wordt overtroffen. Vaak gehoord maar blijft fris klinken.

36. Donovan - Colours
Deze man is ook duidelijk door Bob Dylan geïnspireerd maar zijn accent is anders. Ook een fijne akoetische folksong vooral door de tekst en het heerlijke gitaarwerk.

38. Ronny - Darling, Good Night
Duitsche schlager met country in verwerkt. De (landelijke) sfeer zit er wel in maar het klinkt in zijn geheel te bezadigd.

40. Cliff Richard - On My Word
Minder bekende maar sympathieke popsong met een tikkeltje mysterieuze sfeer. Slim om het akoestisch te houden waarbij de blazers het geheel nog opkrikken.

The Fortunes was een grote band in de sixties. You've Got Your Troubles werd hun eerste hit. The Ivy League maakten met Tossing And Turning hun beste nummer. Ze waren het grote voorbeeld van The Buffoons uit Twente die iets later een aantal hits hadden in hetzelfde genre. Op 29 hele leuke R & B van Lee Dorsey. The Searchers scoorden alweer hun 12e hit en Gary U.S. Bonds maakte het origineel al in 1960, maar Eddie Hodges maakte ook iets leuks van het nummer New Orleans. Tot slot Tom Jones, groot entertainer maar niet zo mijn cup of tea, had met What's New Pussycat toch wel een aardig nummer.

Flinke vernieuwing in de lijst. Eruit vliegen 4 platen die er samen al 38 weken in stonden. Erin komen 4 grote artiesten.

Eerst The Miracles, met een van de mooiste Motown-liedjes. Prachtige tekst ook. Alleen die openingszin al en dan de manier waarop hij wordt gezongen... schitterend.

The Byrds en The Who komen vervolgens ook (eindelijk binnen met toch weer sterke singles.

The Lewis Sisters' He's An Oddball kwam uit op Motown, maar klinkt niet zo. Je zou eerder zeggen dat iemand als John Barry zich hier met de productie heeft bemoeid. Grappig nummer (maar geen novelty plaatje ofzo).

Elektische folk van Richard & Mimi Fariña met Reno Nevada. Het nummer kreeg pas een paar later bekendheid toen het door Fairport Convention werd opgenomen.
Herman schreef het al; The Lewis Sisters met He's An Oddball klinkt als een vreemde eend in de bijt uit de Motown studio's, maar ik vind het een uitstekend nummer.
Met het voor het merendeel zoetgevooisde geluid van The Miricles heb ik niet zoveel. The Tracks Of My Tears is echter één van de betere nummers van deze band. Daarom een plek in mijn lijst.
Tot slot heb ik op de valreep The Last Time eruit geknikkerd om plaats te maken voor een EP van The Rolling Stones, genaamd: Got Live If You Want It! Onze vaste recencent LucM, heeft in zijn bericht hierboven, zoals wij dat van hem kennen, een waardevolle mening gegeven over deze release.

Ik ben altijd fan geweest van het orchestrale intro van California Girls. Na Help Me Rhonda sowieso weer een voltreffer, deze single van de Beach Boys. Hoewel de Beach Boys liefst 3 albums uitbrachten in 1965, lijkt Pet Sounds niet heel ver meer weg.

De Four Tops lijken al hun piek te zitten. I Can't Help Myself wordt afgelost door It's The Same Old Song. Wellicht hun twee bekendste singles.

De hitmachine van The Animals draait ook op volle toeren. We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place werd geschreven voor de Righteous Brothers, maar de producer van de Animals kreeg al eerder een demo in handen, waardoor zij het als eerste op konden nemen en uit konden brengen.

I Want You Back Again is weer een typisch zoet Zombies-liedje met die mooie stem van Colin Bluntstone.

26. The Hollies - I'm Alive
Beslist één van hun beste singles, opmerkelijk hoeveel vitaliteit dit nummer uitstraalt (wat de titel belooft). Naast de samenzang moeten ook de drums en het sublieme einde vermeld worden.

36. Peggy March - Mit 17 Hat Man Noch Träume
Charmant liedje met mooie stem maar wel vrij simpel. In dit genre is dat nog best te pruimen, het klinkt net niet belegen.

38. Manuela und Die 5 Dops - Küsse Unterm Regenbogen
Dit is op vocaal gebied merkelijk minder en het nummer is meer niemendallerig dan simpel en vrolijk.

39. Claudia Sylva - J'ai Pleuré
Een Franse smartlap die ik steeds wel leuk heb gevonden, zij heeft eveneens een mooie stem en Franse liedjes lijken mij over het algemeen beter te liggen dan Duitse.

Een aantal bekende nieuwe (Beach Boys, Four Tops en vooral Animals) maar ook een aantal bands die niet eens in de UMD terug te vinden zijn.
The Termites en The Starlets zijn typische Sixties Girl Group-en. Tell Me is een lekker rommelig cover versie van de Stones track. You Don't Love Me heeft een lekker stoere fuzzy garage sound met licht psychedelische ondertoon.

Een meer rauwe sixties girl sound komt van Toni McCann & The Blue Jays. Dubbele a-kant, twee keer de moeite waard. Tommy is dan weer typische inwisselbare girlgroup sound van Reparata And The Delrons. Tommy is een Chip Taylor compositie. Vaak een garantie voor een zekere kwaliteit. Ik ben bang dat dit leuk is om een keer te horen maar snel verveeld

De no hit sound van Sons Of Fred lijkt in de verte op de Animals. Lekkere, typisch orgel gedreven R&B. Raar dat dit helemaal niets gedaan heeft.

The Skatalites gooien er de ene na de andere ska hit uit. The Cats starten met Juke-Box (If I Didn't Have A Dime To Play The Juke-Box) en Goodbye My Love hun enorme single carriere. Dit doet nog weinig.

Het nummer kwam op 8 mei binnen in de HOT100. Het hield het in mijn lijstje 5 weken vol. Jij was de enige die het in z'n lijst opnam (2 weken). Nu dus een re-entry?

Je let beter op dan ik. ik zit te slapen. Het gaat om de opvolger van Tommy: Reparata - A Summer Thought. Thnx. Overigens ook al weer een paar weken oud. Maar ik ben links en rechts wat achterstallig onderhoud aan het plegen.

Eric Burdon van The Animals is weer onnavolgbaar op dreef in We've Gotta Get Out Of This Place. Misschien wel de beste song van The Animals ever.
Dave Berry was altijd in het zwart gekleed en door zijn trage bewegingen vonden sommigen hem zelfs een griezel, maar hij was dankzij This Strange Effect toch heel populair in de Lage landen. Zelfs de B-side Now werd een veel gedraaid nummer op de radio.
Sonny & Cher scoorden met I Got You Babe één van hun grootste hits.
The Beach Boys bleven met California Girls nog even in het surfgenre voordat ze zich in 1966 met Sloop John B overgaven aan een breder reportoire.
Sons of Fred met Sweet Love is het enige onbekende singletje voor mij.
