Tijd voor de gezamenlijke dan, kleine verschillen onderling tussen plaats 2, 3, 4 en 6-11 maar uiteindlijk net alle gelijke standen voorkomen. Opvallend, een hele verse top 4, alles staat er maximaal 3 weken in wat ook nog geldt voor plaats 5 en 7 overigens. Je zou denken dat we daar een poosje mee vooruit kunnen, maar ja, er komt nog zoveel aan....
Deze week maar 2 binnenkomers; als hoogste alweer een nieuwe Oasis. De vorige keldert daardoor behoorlijk, maar he, die heeft al 2 weken op 1 gestaan dus dan mag het. Eens kijken hoe hoog de opvolger zal gaan komen.
De andere nieuwe is - he dat is toevallig, ook van nogal eens ruziënde broertjes. In dit geval uit Schotland en als neutraal middelpunt doet ook Hope Sandoval mee, van Mazzy Star die een poosje geleden nog met haar band in de lijst stond.

Bovenin houdt Pavement nog steeds stand, terwijl de andere toppers die de afgelopen 2/3 maanden hooggenoteerd stonden nu eindelijk wegzakken. De een na de andere potentiële #1 komt nu opzetten. Deze week is dat Juicy van The Notorious B.I.G., niet zijn eerste single maar wel de grote doorbraak (al werd het in Nederland dacht ik geen hit). Geweldig nummer waaraan alles klopt. Muzikaal retecatchy, tekstueel gevat en zeker ook qua voordracht sterk gebracht; meeslepend, humoristisch en toch ook wel openhartig tegelijk. Voor mij één van de beste hiphopsingles van het jaar.

Future Sound of London's album Lifeforms heb ik laatst weer eens gedraaid. Met name de eerste cd is echt een fantastische luistertrip. De singleversie van het titelnummer is dat ook; het is net alsof je in een bootje door de jungle dobbert, tot een goddelijke stem je toezingt en je naar het paradijs loodst. .

Oasis mag ook hier niet ontbreken, maar ik moet zeggen dat LF wel een beetje doodgedraaid voelt. De sensatie van toen voel ik er niet meer bij.

Global Communication is er eentje voor de FSOL-liefhebbers. Prachtige ambienttechno, gebaseerd op een sample van een oud-Depeche Mode nummer (Oberkorn). Maar waar de track van DM een gewoon instrumentaaltje is, gaat het hier kilometers de diepte in. Of de ruimte in.

Het is weer file en behoorlijk dringen in deze lijst. En aan de hoogte van het binnenkomen van de entrees zou je het nog nog niet bevroeden.
Maar ik denk dat de oudjes een behoorlijke coup poging voornemens zijn. Dat ze het, als oude concurrentie, er niet bij laten zitten.

Stevie Nicks had, eerlijk is eerlijk, juist één van haar minste solo albums afgeleverd, Street Angel. Maar heeft aan de andere kant met Blue denim juist één van haar allerbeste Fleetwood Mac-achtige werkjes geschreven en uitgevoerd, zonder uiteraard de rest van de band.

Ze was in deplorabele staat: verslaafd aan pillen, liep verslavingskliniek in en uit, had Fleetwood Mac dus officieel verlaten en deed met Street Angel haar schrijverstalenten behoorlijk veel geweld aan.
Gelukkig was er dus nog een kleine groene strohalm als hoop voor de toekomst: Blue Denim.

Pink Floyd?

Edit: Hmmm in maart '94 als promotional cd-r uitgebracht voor USA-rockradio

week 34 voor 1994.
Terwijl het er op lijkt dat Madder Rose net als Senser kansloos wordt uitgeschakeld in het topic van edgar18 van 1994 blijven ze mij gewoon op 1 staan. Overigens blijft de hele top 5 weer staan met als gevolg dan andere in de wacht blijven voor topposities. En dan komen er ook al weer nieuwe bij.
Hoogste nieuwe is niet meer Live met I Alone.
Na de post hieronder van ranboy doe ik mee met Selling the Drama.
Hoogste nieuwe is nu voor Sugar. Ondanks de titel was ik Your Favourite Thing al bijna vergeten, maar het is natuurlijk wel gewoon een erg goed nummer, helemaal in Sugar-stijl met de karakteristieke stem van Bob Mould.
Mazzy Star dan, bij anderen al op de weg terug of weg maar ik had 'm voor augustus staan. Fade into You, erg rustig, mooi gezongen.Na beluistering vanochtend hoorde ik qua stijl duidelijke overeenkomsten met het Nederlands Donna Blue, maar die zijn 25 jaar later
Ash dan, die deed toen al waar ze later bekend mee werden, uptempo punky popsongs. Dat houden ze ook vol tot en met het huidige decennium.
Veel verder naar onder dan Pale Saints, een 4AD band en dat weet je al redelijk in welk hoek je het moet zoeken. Pale Saints varieert overigens nogal eens qua muziek, Fine Friend laat ze van hun meest dreampoppige kant horen waar ze eerder ook wel shoegazig klonken. Lush is qua sound dan ook nooit ver weg.
Adorable dan, tja, ze hebben 1 geweldige single (Sunshine Smile) en de rest komt toch niet echt in de buurt. Ook deze Vendetta niet al proberen ze het wel, de echte shoegaze met zang die verzuipt in de gitaren is toch ver te zoeken. Overigens haalde ik deze uit de lijst van musician, had deze release nog niet scherp staan.

Een lijst met wat bijzonderheden, maar niet op 1, die blijft gewoon staan.

Op 34 vinden we One van Metallica in zijn laatste week. Deze plaat staat in de puntentelling volgens mijn top 40 (1978-2011) en ook volgens de puntentelling van mijn top 20 (1976-2019) op 1. Wel zo toepasselijk, met zo'n titel.

Een heel bizar geval staat op 14. Vorige week kwam Live in mijn top 40 binnen met I alone (zo staat dat in mijn schrift), en deze week stijgt hij door naar 14, maar nu staat er ineens Selling the drama in mijn schrift. Nog twee weken later staat deze plaat genoteerd als I alone/Selling the drama, maar uiteindelijk wordt het toch alleen maar Selling the drama. En I alone zal pas over enkele maanden 'echt' binnenkomen. Vorige week merkte vigil al op dat ik wel heel vroeg was met I alone, maar nu blijkt dus (ik had het vorige week nog niet door), dat het een soort valse start was. Ik zal deze chartrun alleen als Selling the drama tellen. En hoe dat allemaal zo kon gebeuren? Kennelijk werden beide songs in deze weken op de radio gedraaid, maar uiteindelijk bleek Selling the drama de echte single te zijn.

Bij de binnenkomers ook een heel bijzondere: meteen als hoogste op 20 kwam Jeff Buckley binnen. Toen leefde hij nog gewoon, was het de debuutsingle van zijn debuutalbum Grace en was ik meteen weg van Mojo pin, een song met hevige vocale uitbarstingen maar ook rustige passages, een song eigenlijk die niet echt als single geschikt lijkt want eigenlijk te goed voor de top 40. Het zou ook geen hit worden, maar Jeff vestigde wel direct zijn naam.

Op 26 nog een debuut, ook niet van een kleintje, namelijk The Tea Party. The river deed verder ook niets in commercieel opzicht, maar heeft al alle kenmerken van de band in zich: gedreven zware gitaren, beïnvloed door Led Zeppelin, en al die intense zang van Jeff Martin. Ruim 20 jaar later scoort deze band bij mij een van de grootste hits van de jaren '10 (The ocean at the end).

Op 31 Collective Soul met hun bekendste song Shine. Deze Amerikaanse band maakt een soort (post)grunge, en Shine heeft een erg aanstekelijk refrein waardoor het een grote radiohit kon worden.

Op 33 jaren 80-band China Crisis met een laatste oprisping, en hoewel de sound wat moderner is, heeft het nog dezelfde melancholie en melodierijkheid als hun vorige songs. Iets minder passie, maar wel heel lekker relaxt.

Had ik net in 1988 een nieuwe van Tambourine, in 1994 komt de bekendste song van Moonflower binnen, geen direct verband maar wel een soortgelijke muziek, ontspannen rock met vrouwelijke vocalen. Angel klinkt erg traditioneel van opbouw, maar op een prettige manier.

Overigens maakte ik ook de vergelijking tussen Moonflower en Tambourine Ook niet zo gek natuurlijk, toch wel redelijk duidelijk hoorbaar.

Mojo Pin was ik nog niet ergens tegengekomen, maar die staat nu op pole position voor mijn lijstje van volgende week.

Kan wel. Had ik vorige week ook problemen mee. Je moet bij het bewerken in de verwijzing de identieke usercijfers ook aanpassen.
Of dat weghalen en de user opnieuw benoemen.
