De Dopegezinde Gemeente had ik ook iets van beluisterd, zit ook een beetje in dezelfde hoek.

Jammah Tammah is ook wel bekend, maar Nederlands dus niet zo gek (ska/pretpunk met één van de Boegies).
Ik was trouwens in 1995 op Lowlands, in 1993 1 dag maar in 95 het hele weekend (94 niet). Er waren toen nog maar 3 podia trouwens.

Pigment en David Kennedy zeggen me zo wel iets, de rest niet.

Björk's Isobel na 4 weken op 1 nog stevig in het zadel, eigenlijk is er nog geen concurrentie. Nu is volgende week 'the battle of Britpop', dus er staat wel wat op stapel.

Maar wie weet hoever Tindersticks komt met hun fraaie nieuwe single Travelling Light, waarop Carla Torgerson van de Walkabouts meezingt. Beide stemmen zijn bloedmooi, die van Carla zelfs zo schitterend dat ik me afvraag waarom ik nooit iets van de Walkabouts heb geluisterd. Maar misschien nog wel mooier is de tussentijdse climax na het tweede refrein, als het strijkorkest ineens flink aanzwelt en ons het volgende couplet in werpt.

Na twee relatief rustige singles laat Radiohead op Just de gitaar weer eens ronken. Tof nummer weer, met een van hun bekendste videoclips.

Evil Stig had ik nog nooit van gehoord en is een ontdekking via ranja. Het verschrikkelijke verhaal achter het nummer (de oorspronkelijke zangeres van de band werd vermoord) bleef hangen en het nummer met gelegenheidszangeres Joan Jett viel met de week beter op zijn plaats. Geweldige garage rock/power pop song waar de energie langs alle kanten vanaf spat.

The Charlatans komen direct binnen met hun sterkste single sinds Jesus Hairdo. Bij RYM schrijft iemand dat de ritmesectie erg op die van Sympathy for the Devil lijkt en daar zit wel wat in.

Sweet Water's Superstar was ik compleet vergeten, en dat terwijl het zo'n enorm aanstekelijk nummer is. Ik zie dat de single niet eens op RYM staat, dus ik ben niet de enige. Maar wie van Amerikaanse bands als Posies en Lemonheads houdt kan dit best eens proberen.

Eens met herman inzake de aantrekkelijkheid van de nieuwe single van Radiohead. Er wordt, in deze vruchtbare vinyl tijd, met enig gemak gewonnen van Oasis, Blur en de Charlatans.

En dan nog gezwegen over wat de lijst allemaal niet zou binnen komen. De concurrentie is moordend en ik zie het ook nog niet snel afnemen. Mooie tijd!

En daar komt Summer van Buffalo Tom zomaar op 1 bij mij; na Taillights fade al zijn tweede; maar van deze was ik het al totaal vergeten... Wel een goeie song, gelukkig.

Dat ik toen op vakantie was, heeft wel gevolgen voor de lijst: maar twee binnenkomers, en al 10 songs met 10 of meer weken. De hoogste nieuwe is Live op 31, met All over you. De singlevolgorde van deze band is wat rommelig, maar in mijn lijst is het de opvolger van de succesvolle hits Selling the drama en I alone. All over you heeft dezelfde sound, maar mist het extra wat de eerste twee hadden. Desalniettemin een puike rocksingle.

En op 33 Blues Traveler, een Amerikaanse rockband, met Run-around, een behoorlijk uptempo maar toch lichtvoetig nummertje waar niemand zich aan zal storen. Volgens wiki is het hun doorbraaksingle; maar ook deze was ik inmiddels weer vergeten. De band was in Amerika erg succesvol, maar in Nederland werd nooit een hitlijst bereikt.

Week 32 voor 1995, geen verrassing dat Hole op 1 komt lijkt me. Kijken of ze oa Ash van zich af kunnen houden.
De hoogste nieuwe is die van Ash, met hun vorige singles scoorden ze achteraf ook goed maar dit zal het eerste geweest zijn wat ik destijds van ze kende, en ik vond het meteen geweldig. Het album 1977 staat vol met lekker springerige pop/rock; ik noem ze wel eens de 'mannelijke letters to cleo'. Niet helemaal maar het is wel de band met mannelijke zang die het dichtst in de buurt komt denk ik.
Garbage met Vow was natuurlijk een hoofdpijn plaatje qua timing, wanneer zou ik die hebben leren kennen? In de Oor van 1995 kwam ik de naam tegen in #17, klein artikel, in hetzelfde nummer ook de albumrecensie en vorige week kwam de single binnen in de US charts. Dan leek dit me wel een mooi moment. Verder is alles al wel eens gezegd over de band of het nummer In de UK was inmiddels ook Subhuman al bekend maar ik weet zeker dat ik dat destijds nooit als single heb gekend dus die offer ik nu ten faveure van Vow en de nu volgende singles.
Live had ik voor over 2 of 3 weken klaar staan maar als ranboy het nu al kende dan ik zeker ook. Overigens ben ik het het niet met zijn commentaar op het nummer eens, voor mij is dit altijd een favoriet geweest van het album, meer dan Selling the Drama.
Levellers begint behoorlijk ruig maar na het harde begin is het meteen erg herkenbaar als Levellers. Ik had dit nummer niet eerder meegekregen als single overigens maar was in de UK toch een aardig hit (even opgezocht, opvallend hoeveel van hun singles net geen top 10 haalden - deze #12)
Over Letters to Cleo-achtig gegsproken, Dirt Merchants met hun 2e single van hun enige album. Overigens lijkt het feitelijk meer op oa That Dog of Liz Phair, maar ze komen - natuurlijk - wel uit Boston.

Hoewel Oasis mijn voorkeur had in 1995 tov Blur, moest ik toen - en ook nu - toch eerlijk bekennen dat Blur met de betere single kwam. Ze wonnen de battle of Britain dan ook terecht, al verloren ze de oorlog .

Tijd voor de gezamenlijke dan met toch 11 nieuwe lijsten. We staan aan de vooravond van de Battle of Britpop - volgens sommige bestaat dat al sinds de 80s of 60s of zelfs nog langer maar over het algemeen wordt daarmee toch de jaren 90,en dan een specifieke muzieksoort uit met name 1992-1997, bedoeld. De Battle of Britpop dus, in de UK moesten ze tot 20 augustus wachten op de uitslag, nummer 1 en 2 leek zeker maar welke volgorde? Eens kijken hoe dat bij ons gaat, dat zal volgende week toch wel duidelijk worden. Ook binnen op 1 en 2? Of op 1 en bv 8? Of minder spectaculair bv op 11 en 14? Maar ook dan, in welke volgorde? In elk geval lijkt de tijd voor een opvolger voor Pulp wel rijp want voor het eerst sinds - eigenlijk mensheugenis want met deze hitte is de heugenis niet zo lang, komt Pulp onder de 100 punten en dat zonder halve punten lijstjes. Maar misschien is Paul Weller wel lachende derde. Of Ash.
Ash is in elk geval de hoogste binnenkomer, zelf rekende ik ze niet echt tot de britpop maar qua land en tijd klopt het wel, het is alleen wat punkier dan de meeste soortgenoten. Ze hebben onze lijst al vaker gehaald maar zo hoog nog niet. Het was dan ook wel hun doorbraaksingle, bijna top 10 in de UK.
Naast 2 re-entries dan ook nog een tweede britpop plaatje nieuw, Cast met Fine Time. Dat heeft wel alles waar je bij britpop aan denkt. Hun debuut in de britse charts, net top 20.
