De op zich prima nieuwe binnenkomers staan feitelijk een beetje "geparkeerd", aangezien de rest van de lijst geen stap opzij zet. Die rest gaat allemaal mondjesmaat omhoog en de conclusie is gerechtvaardigd: er is sprake van een fikse file. Van goede muziek, dat wel.

Sommigen sluipen nog even via het benzinestation alsnog wat sneller naar boven. Maar het aanbod van goede nieuwe muziek is te groot om het allemaal een groot succes te kunnen laten worden. Palmsy is in ieder geval wel een terechte hoogste binnenkomer.

Grecio's Top 40 (week 18)

Een heerlijke week voor muziek. Lekker wat gejat uit Mume lijsten hier en spotify. (thanks musician & Sundance).

Half Moon Run was ik al heel erg fan van. Het album Sun Leads Me On is echt een prachtalbum van begin tot eind. Dus toen ik hier zag dat er een single uit was knalde hij gelijk naar 1. Verder de nieuwe van Blink 182, die helemaal niet zo slecht is. Lekker oldschool. Daydreamers stijgt naar plaats 2, ook al hebben ze een schattige <1000 listeners op spotify. Maar naar mijn mening mag dat snel veranderen. Will Varley is ook nieuw in de top 20, op de achtergrond hoor je overigens stiekem Frank Turner.

Wat een week is het geweest voor nieuwe releases: Radiohead brengt een nieuw nummer uit, James Blake dropt ineens een heel nieuw album waaronder de single I Need A Forest Fire, een duet met niemand minder als Bon Iver (!). En ook Local Natives laten sinds lang weer van zich horen met het aanstekelijke Past Lives. En Marissa Nadler zit al aan de derde single van haar nog te verschijnen album: het mooie Katie I Know.

Ja er is een hoop uitgekomen! Een nieuw James Blake-album waarvan hij drie nummers op Spotify als single heeft gezet (leer keuzes maken, James, dit is niet erg handig voor de MuMeAfrekening en kan tot te veel verdeeldheid leiden ), twee nieuwe Radiohead-singles en een nieuwe RHCP-single. Ben benieuwd wat dat allemaal gaar doen in onze charts.

Wow nog een nieuwe Radiohead single Daydreaming, straks eens beluisteren.
En ik stel voor dat we I Need A Forest Fire nemen als single voor James Blake in de MuMeAfrekening maar iedereen is natuurlijk vrij om te kiezen uit de drie

Het werd ook tijd voor wat meer opwinding in de lijst, vond ik. Vond het de laatste tijd iets minder.

Ja, zo nu en dan moet die top 10 toch flink worden opgeschud, en deze week was het zover. Sig:Ar:Tyr? Ik had er ook nooit van gehoord, maar het Maak kennis met Metal anno 2016 levert me regelmatig nieuwe tips (ook al ben ik de enige). Crownless is behoorlijk aansprekend, vooral de melodie; het gitaarspel doet me aan de oude Rush denken.
Verder komen drie bands binnen die hier geen introductie behoeven.

Ik vind die RHCP single echt zoveeel op "Don't Stop" lijken (die bassline). Wel een leuk nummer, maar denk niet dat hij mijn top 20 gaat redden. De Radiohead nummers moeten nog even op me inwerken ook, vind ze eerlijk gezegd een beetje boring.

Ariana Grande en Rihanna, het lijkt de Top 40 wel. Ik hoop dan ook dat beide nummers binnenkort terug te vinden zijn in de landelijke Top 40, want ik vind het heerlijke nummers, popmuziek op z'n best. De popsterren van nu komen wat mij betreft veelal gewoon met sterke muziek, zie ook het nieuwe album van Beyoncé. Voor Ariana is het niet eens de eerste keer in mijn top 40.

Maar naast die grote sterren komen we ook veel onbekendere acts tegen, en dingen die nooit de landelijke Top 40 zouden halen. Neem nou Africaine 808, een eigenzinnig Duits duo dat precies doet wat de naam zegt: Afrikaanse muziek mixen met 808-gerichte electronica. En dat doen ze fantastisch! Awakening vond ik ook ontzettend sterk, maar bleek geen single te zijn. Nu mogen ze dus alsnog in mijn lijst met Rhythm Is All You Can Dance.

Verder zien we ook liedjes die in een betere wereld ook gewoon wereldhits zouden worden. Stranger van MOTHXR en Silhouette van Julia Holter zijn voorbeelden van toegankelijke popliedjes die wel heel vernuftig in elkaar zitten en uitermate sfeervol zijn. Die van Julia Holter is trouwens de vorige, maar het kwartje bij haar recente album is eindelijk gevallen doordat ik Everytime Boots zo leuk vond. En nu kan ik Feel You en dit nummer ook meteen veel meer waarderen. En mag Silhouette in de herkansing.
MOTHXR verwijst weer volop naar de 80s, met een grote rol voor de synthesizers.

Ook Bloc Party komt weer met een prima synthesizer-popnummer, maar die band kan bij veel mensen niets meer goed doen, lijkt wel. Ik blijf de stem van Kele erg mooi vinden. Het surfgitaartje doet me trouwens zelfs wat denken aan Teleman - Düsseldorf, maar dan vind ik Virtue net wat toffer.

Verder hebben we nog wat entries van artiesten die we in een andere context kennen: Ten eerste een wonderschoon folkliedje van Lou Rhodes, de zangeres van Lamb. De electronische kant van Lamb blijft dus achterwege.
Ten tweede een toffe single van de Warpaint-bassiste, met inderdaad flink wat bas, maar verder blijft ze vrij dicht bij het geluid van haar band, en dat is helemaal niet erg.
En ten derde zingt Slowdive's Rachel Goswell ook in Minor Victories erg fijn. Ik merk dat vooral Scattered Ashes wordt opgepikt, maar persoonlijk vind ik Folk Arp mooier. Vooral de eerste, folky helft, al is de opbouw naar een climax ook niet verkeerd.

Nog geen Radiohead of James Blake dus, dat is nog iets te snel, maar wie weet volgende week!

Klopt, zo kwam ik ook bij het origineel terecht. Die Trentemøller-remix vind ik ook tof, al bekruipt me wel wat het gevoel dat ik het allemaal wel eerder van hem heb gehoord. Maar goede remix, kan mijn lijst ook nog halen.

Tussen de kroon op mijn lijst en de neplach onderaan is alles gewijzigd. De lijst is nogal beïnvloed door het zomerse weer deze week. Veel stijgers in mijn lijst hebben een heerlijke lome coole twist. We hebben dus geen enkel recht om gedeprimeerd te zijn. Ik ben benieuwd wat deze lijst gaat doen als het weer weer omslaat.
Bij de zomerse tips buiten de lijst zitten verder nog Spring King met The Summer en The Monkees (ja, diezelfde van 50 jaar geleden maar met een "nieuwe" single): You bring the summer.
Op basis van mijn eigen kijkcijferhoogte van deze clip hoort die eigenlijk in mijn lijstje.

Ik begin me af te vragen of The Orange Monkey van PJ Harvey wel een single is. Ik zou zweren dat het eerst als single op Spotify stond, maar als dat zo is heeft ze dat weggehaald. Lekker verwarrend weer...
