Ach, zo'n onschuldig nummer van de enig overgebleven Bee Gee. Hij heeft ze bovendien slechter gemaakt.
Zie het als een hernieuwde aanmoedigingsprijs, voor een man die ook al weer vanaf halverwege de jaren '60 aanwezig was.

Het is natuurlijk geen Placebo.
De nieuwe van ABC is ook van buitengewone klasse. Die oude band (1982) verrast door met dezelfde sound, gewoon één op één, 1982 weer te dupliceren.

Slechts vijf dagen tussen mijn vorige Afrekening en deze, maar pôh, wat een vijf dagen! Ik heb het idee dat dit voor mij persoonlijk mijn meest lucratieve week is sinds het begin van mijn Afrekening op MuMe. Zes nieuwe binnenkomers zijn het resultaat. Het hadden er misschien wel meer kunnen zijn maar om mijn lijst nog een beetje consistent te houden heb ik enkele nummers even in de wachtkamer (lees: Tipafrekening) gezet. En ik zou ook niet weten welknummer ik er dan uit had moeten halen, waardoor ook mijn Tip deze week een hoog niveau heeft. Vind ik dan, beauty is immers in the ear of the beholder. Mijn inspiratie dee week komt weer uit andere lijstjes, mijn Discover Weekly en wat nieuwe singles van oude bekenden waarvan ik niet nog wist dat ze nieuwe singles hadden.

Ook wel geinig: Van de week heb ik even het het-wat-luister-je-nu-topic op Wielerfits benoemd. Deze week was ik m even opnieuw aan het doorspitten en toen stuitte ik op dit: Sofi was daar al benoemd, in oktober! En dat voor een wielersite. Destijds compleet over het hoofd gezien, maar gelukkig heeft Sunderland dat recht gezet. Drinkee is na een weekje Tip ook mijn één na hoogste binnenkomer.

Nieuw
BOY - Hit My Heart
Ik heb de afgelopen weken twee grote muzikale liefdes. Dat Beau daar één van is mag na 5452346 keer wel duidelijk zijn. De tweede is BOY, een Duits-Zwitsers duo dat enkele jaren terug een mooie zomerhit had met de ultieme handjeklapsong Little Numbers. Maar hun andere werk doet daar zeker niet voor onder; hun debuutalbum behoort inmiddels tot mijn favorieten. Zoete popliedjes, maar wel stuk voor stuk fenomenaal georkestreerd. Ben nu driftig aan hun tweede album begonnen, waar dit hun meest recente single van is.

Compact Disk Dummies - Silver
Na een paar weken begin ik er toch achter te komen ik zo’n beetje de halve afrekening van Sunderland overneem. Sommige blijven steken in de Tip, anderen maken in één keer een flinke klapper. Zo ook CDD, weer eens uit België. Heerlijk donkere bak synthesizers maar wel in een aanstekelijk hoog tempo.

KMF - May God
Heel prettig zomernummer van een Noors bandje dat ik nog niet kende, maar blijkbaar gaan ze al wel even mee. De lichtvoetige zang en instrumentatie doen me sterk denken aan the Whitest Boy Alive. Leuke trivia: KMF staat voor Kakkmaddafakka. Verdere interpretatie laat ik aan jullie over.

Wat moet ik hier nou mee? En vind ik het goed of toch weer niet? En is het nou hiphop of iets ander kopie-indieachtigs? Veel vragen, da’s vaak ook het teken dat het toch wel fascineert. En deze shizzle is toch elke keer weer een klein feestje als ik hem opzet.

Indian Askin - Better One
Indian Askin, één van de meest wisselvallige Nederlandse bandjes van dit moment. Answer vond ik goed, Really Wanna Tell You fantastisch, geweldig, super. Maar Candles was maar zozo en Asshole Down en Islands tegen het matige aan. Better One hoort gelukkig weer bij de sterkere helft. Weer gewoon uptempo rammelrock met aanstekelijke zanglijntjes, dat kunnen ze toch het beste.

Rudimental ft. J Angel - Healing
Twee weken terug was ik met mijn broers en Belgrado (misschien wel mijn nieuwe favoriete stad, maar dat terzijde), en een beetje per toeval was oen ook het Belgrade Beer Fest gaande, één van de grootste festivals van Zuidoost Europa. En tussen de tientallen bierkraampjes (waar halve liters het minimum waren) en Balkanbandjes met hun valse zang en nog valsere violen was het Londense Rudimental de headliner. En het was me een showtje: ook in Servië zijn ze ongekend bekend. Of ze dit nieuwe nummer ook gespeeld hebben durf ik eigenlijk niet te zeggen, hun repertoire lijkt nogal veel op elkaar. Maar het is toch allemaal wel lekker.

Usé - Respire
Hier moet je even voor gaan zitten. Dit Franse nummer vat paniek, ongemak en achtervolgingswaan samen in een muur aan opzwepende synthesizers en een in-your-face praatzang. Geen idee of dit ook de richting is die het nummer uit wil, ik heb namelijk geen idee waar de tekst over gaat.

Volkova Sisters - Bianco
Ook deze is ontzettend duister en bouwt meesterlijk op. Het feit dat het Engels met een zwaar Hongaars accent is gezongen dikt dit zelfs nog een beetje aan.

Wie mijn lijst volgt, weet dat binnenkomen op 7 erg zeldzaam, misschien wel uniek is. Cities of glass is ook een heel bijzonder nummer. De titel zou kunnen verwijzen naar componist Philp Glass. Het begint met een lekker ritme, maar in de loop van de songs komen er steeds nieuwe onverwachte (klassieke) elementen bij en tegen het eind heeft het met popmuziek weinig meer te maken.

Mick Jenkins: dé ontdekking van de week. Jazz-collectief BADBADNOTGOOD heeft al veel toffe dingen gedaan, zelfs al eerder met een rapper samengewerkt (Ghostface Killah) maar hier overtreffen ze zich wat mij betreft. Zowel qua compositie als instrumentatie is Drowning een enorm spannend nummer, een spanning die ik wellicht mis in hun andere werk. Mick Jenkins kende ik nog niet, en ondanks dat Wikipedia hem een rapper noemt zingt hij meer dan dat hij rapt, maar hij lijkt een fraaie chemie met BADBADNOTGOOD te hebben of in ieder geval het beste in ze naar boven te halen. Tof!

Phillipi & Rodrigo: twee Argentijnse producers die zich laten beïnvloeden door bezwerende Zuid-Amerikaanse muziek, met een fijne rol voor inheemse trommels.

Romare: ik heb Rainbow en Love Song grijs gedraaid, en dan klinkt dit meteen heel herkenbaar; Romare heeft een heel duidelijk eigen stijl gecreëerd, met lang uitgesponnen nummers waarin hij soulvolle vocalen gebruikt, zich op de groove richt, en er af en toe een wending in gooit. Op Who Loves You vind ik hem eigenlijk net wat te veel in herhaling vallen maar een goed nummer is het wel. Ik dacht eerst eventjes dat ie in het begin Flight of the Bumblebee van Rimsky-Korsakov samplede.

Julee Cruise: zomaar ineens weer een nieuw nummer van deze Twin Peaks-zangeres, afkomstig van een single waarop zij en King Dude nummers van elkaar coveren. Ik ken het origineel van King Dude nog niet, maar als Julee iets zingt ben ik al snel verkocht.
