Teveel mooie muziek dus ik breid de lijst maar uit; even wat vet kweken voor wellicht toekomstige magere tijden.


Fijna ballad van deze band/zanger die mij verder nog onbekend is, behalve dat ik weet dat er net een debuut-ep is verschenen. Mooie opbouw die tegen het eind wat openbreekt. Prima stem!

13. Tsja, ik kan er niet omheen; Weyes Blood zal voor mij het album van het jaar uitbrengen en elk nummer is raak. Na haar live optreden afgelopen donderdag waarbij ze haar prachtige stem geëtaleerd heeft, is dat nog eens dubbel onderstreept. 3 singles in de top 20 heb ik niet eerder gedaan, maar ik beloof dat het ook de eerste en laatste week is dat dat zo gebeurt.
17. Harlea, er is nog weinig te vinden over deze dame. Dit is haar debuutsingle en ze is Engels. That is all. Dit nummer smaakt naar een vleugje Arctic Monkeys, een vleugje Garbage en een vleugje The Kills. Prima debuut!
21. Ik ben al 4 jaar lang erg gecharmeerd van de space rock/industrial rock/prog rock (give it a name) van Broken Hands. heerlijke lawaai met een dijk van een stem. Deze single begeleidt de wereldwijde release van hun debuutalbum afgelopen maand. Wie deelt mijn enthousiasme?
22. Dat Klangstof al een tijdje mooie singles uitbrengt is al langer bekend, maar dit vind ik denk ik nog wel de mooiste. Warme klanken die mij een beetje aan de intro van Miami Vice doen denken, dat ik vanmiddag voor het eerst sinds 20 jaar weer eens op tv zag. Ik houd het gerucht in de gaten of Klangstof volgend jaar daadwerkelijk op Coachella staat, in de gaten.
23. Dit is weer zo'n voorbeeld wat ik laatst ook al benoemde; een heel fijn nummer en als je er dan verder in verdiept, blijkt het gewoon Nederlands te zijn. Wederom het bewijs dat we prima muziek af kunnen leveren.
24. Zella is een beetje aan het fröbelen de laatste tijd. Zo vlak na haar debuutalbum komt ze met wat singletjes die niet heel sterk zijn. Maar ik heb nog steeds de verwachting dat ze ooit hele hoge ogen gaat gooien.
25. The Duke Spirit is een band dat ik liefheb vanwege hun fantastische single Surrender, een paar jaar geleden. Dit nummer overtreft dat niet, maar klinkt lekker in het gehoor; beetje spannend, beetje zweverig.

Leonard staat nog altijd fier op kop, maar daarachter is er aardige beweging te zien. Liv en The xx gaan erg hard, en zullen vermoedelijk gaan strijden om de koppositie zodra You Want It Darker wat inzakt. Ook vinden we drie nieuwe nummers in de top 10, waaronder een heuse danceknaller van Bicep. Altijd tof, zulke afwisseling, vooral omdat het totaal contrasteert met bijvoorbeeld Jan Swerts.

Bear's Den scoorde eerder dit jaar al een vrij grote hit met Auld Wives, en komen nu hoog binnen met de opvolger. Het is duidelijk dat ze de folk en de banjo wat achter zich hebben gelaten, want de muziek is wat vlotter en steviger, maar bovendien enorm pakkend.

Bonobo is een Engelsman die vooral instrumentale muziek maakt in de hoek van de instrumentale hiphop. Relaxte, sfeervolle, dromerige composities die uitstekend als achtergrondmuziek dienst doen maar toch ook genoeg te bieden hebben. Zijn nieuwe album heet Migration en de eerste single daarvan heet Kerala, wat een staat is in het zuiden van India. Het lijkt er dus op dat hij op zijn nieuwe album op wereldreis gaat, en voor Kerala door het Oosten is geïnspireerd. Geinig clipje ook, al lijk ik de enige te zijn die hem niet irritant vindt.

Tot slot Findlay, een 'stoere rockchick' (en stoer is ze, dat bewijst ze wel aan het eind van de clip) die ik vooral met Sunderland associeer. Volgens mij volgt en promoot hij haar namelijk al jaren. Toch is ze op MuMe nog niet erg bekend, maar daar kan in dit topic verandering in komen, want ik denk toch dat nummer velen wel kan aanspreken. Ze wordt wel vergeleken met The Kills, en het heeft ook wel datzelfde rauwe gevoel. En dat met een akoestische ipv elektrische gitaar!

Ik had voldoende nummers voor een Top 50, zag er later toch maar weer van af.
Een grote waardering, ik kan niet anders zeggen, dan wat er op ons af komt. Oud en nieuw. De Rolling Stones oogsten dan nog de meeste lof: een prima bluessong van een nieuw album. Pink Floyd "openbaart" (veel) opgenomen sessies, die uiteindelijk moesten leiden tot het legendarische Echoes, van het album Meddle. Die sessies noemden ze "Nothing" en één daarvan is nu uitgebracht. Ik kende het helemaal niet maar ben als liefhebber van Meddle natuurlijk direct verkocht.

Ongekende lof voor Highly Suspect, de band die met Wolf op fabelachtige wijze laat horen méér in z'n mars te hebben dan alleen een prima indie geluid.

De Eigenwijze 30 blijft in de rouw voor de dood van Leonard Cohen, zijn donkere afscheids-soundtrack staat nu voor de 4e week nu op nummer 1!
Wardruna​ haalde deze positie nog niet, maar stijgt heel snel naar nummer 2. Delve stijgt de meeste plaatsen en dat voor zo'n puur volksmuziekje, leuk dat dit nummer zo gewaardeerd wordt. The Breath komt als hoogste nieuw binnen.

Deze week stijgt ze door naar plek twee, daar ze haar meerdere nog moet erkennen in de nog net wat hyperdere Estrons. Tevens de eerste keer dat een volbloed rocknummer mijn lijst aanvoert. Charlotte Carpenter stijgt naar drie en weet de vrouwelijke dominantie nog goed in stand te houden, ook bij de vijf nieuwkomers is het trouwens girlz girlz girlz wat de klok slaat. Sunderlands invloed gaat hier nog even door, want van deze vijf zijn er weer drie afkomstig uit zijn lijst.

Een heel fraai dromerig popliedje met een subtiel donker tintje, bovendien is de gehele EP nogal yummy. Rob en Katy Pearson zijn een tweeling om in de gaten te houden.

Pitou - Debt of a Lover
De rustige herfstfolk wordt langzaam dominanter in mijn hitlijst en deze Nederlandse heeft daarin ook een prachtig aandeel. Wat een heerlijke groeier, betoverend mooi.

Jessy Lanza - VV Violence
Ik blijf nog altijd nummers ontdekken die in pre-poetertjestijden al rondparadeerden in dit topic. Jessy Lanza is er één van, en na drie weken tippen voor Oh No is mijn oor nu zeer gewillig gevallen voor de hierop voorafgaande single. Lekkere uptempobliepjes, en wat heerlijk om er af en toe een “I say it to your face but it doesn’t mean a thing NO!” uit te gooien. Verrekte jammer dat dit geen radiohitje is geworden.

Harlea - Miss Me
Niet alleen de meisjesfolk is alom vertegenwoordigd in mijn lijst, zoals al benoemd mogen de rockchicks er ook zeker zijn. Ook Harlea brengt een onwijs sterk geluid terwijl ze goed subtiel blijft in de vocalen. Nu nog even kijken of de Londense onderscheidend genoeg is om Findlay, Zuzu en de Estronsdame achterna te gaan.

Deze verscheen in m’n Discover Weekly en met zo’n achternaam-titelcombi val je al snel op. Het liedje in kwestie is een leuk, lief gitaarliedje met lichte bluesinvloeden en nog een leuke kleine uitbarsting richting slot. Gabriella is niet echt een goede zangeres maar ze weet het wel op een leuke manier te brengen.

L.A. Salami - Going Mad As The Street Bins
Zelfs als een Sunderlandtip me even ontglipt, komt dezelfde artiest later met een kleine omweg toch weer op m’n pad. Deze knaap maakt heerlijke funky folk die in het verlengde ligt van Lewis Del Mar

LIINES - Disappear
Hyperactieve drumlijn en een gitaarloopje dat me erg doet denken aan het debuut van The Rakes. Eigenlijk heb ik van dit nummer dan ook liever de stem van Alan Donohoe dan van het meisje dat nu de vocalen verzorgt, maar het is zeker niet slecht.

Rusangano Family - Lights On
Zo’n nummer is weet toch weer duidelijk te maken dat 1. Ik toch kan vallen voor hiphopnummers en 2. Ierse makkers toch toffe nummers kunnen maken. Niet zo gek natuurlijk, want ze zingen daar aan één stuk door.

Sailor & I - Black Swan
Het viel me op dat ik de afgelopen weken weinig overlap vertoonde met Arries lijst en niet geheel terecht want er staan toch wel wat nummers in die de moeite waard zijn zoals Smerz, Jessy Lanza en dus ook Sailor & I. Dit duistere stukje noisedance (bestaat dat woord?) wist gelijk mijn aandacht te trekken en geeft bovendien aan waarom dit toch zo’n tof topic is: in elke lijst is wel iets leuks te vinden!

A Tribe Called Quest: waardige comeback van deze hiphopveteranen, rust in vrede Phife Dawg

Living: uit mijn Discover Weekly-lijst op Spotify geplukt, doet me ergens denken aan psychedelische rockbands als The Vryll Society en PAUW, maar dan net anders en minder met de nadruk op rock. Dit zou zomaar kunnen aanslaan in dit topic.

How to Dress Well: lag altijd precies in m'n straatje (PBR&B) maar greep me nooit, nu heeft de man een album uit dat niet goed ontvangen wordt, en weet ie me voor het eerst wel te grijpen. Zelfs het over de top einde werkt voor mij.
