Resultaat van jammen á la Fela Kuti met Byrne die als een predikant zijn tekst debiteerde. De song werd bijna geskipt omdat het te hypnotiserend was en er geen onderscheidende melodielijnen in aan te brengen waren. Door een refrein dat door Eno werd geneuried en waar Byrne tekstueel wat mee kon werd het de lead single van Remain In Light.

Nee hoor, ik weet sowieso niet welke versie op die 12" staat dus ik hou me gewoon aan de commerciele release.
(het is ook de nummer 1 van 1981 op RYM dus wie weet nemen mensen 'm toch alsnog op.... ok deze versie was ook nummer 3 van 1980)

In Smith's hoofd stond deze song model voor The Cure's nieuwe (gothic) geluid. Fiction directeur Parry zag er een goedverkopende single in, mits het geluid 'radiovriendelijk' zou worden gemaakt. In de geest van het eerstgeschrevene weigerde Smith dit natuurlijk pertinent.
