Beter jaar dan de vorige 3 al zijn er een aantal live-albums voor nodig.

Dat was toch de nummer 7 van de 2002 editie?


Jammer dat Papartis een s'je vergeet. Dat scheelt toch een aantal plekken. Al had een top 15 er dan nog steeds niet in gezeten. Elbow zal wel tot 2008 moeten wachten voor het daar gaat belanden.

Anyway, dit was mijn lijstje, waarin we The Gathering mogen bedanken voor die ene hit:

Na de overweldigende jaren 2001 en 2002 vind ik, met terugwerkende kracht, 2003 net een fractie minder. Vooral omdat ik eigenlijk geen échte 5*-albums heb: ik vind het de minste Opeth-plaat van hun eerste negen platen tussen 1995-2010, maar evenzogoed toch mijn #1.
Daarentegen wel een karrevracht aan 4,5*-platen en nog heel veel meer 4*-platen.
Misschien is mijn #13 de vreemde eend in de bijt: die minimal techno heb ik destijds heel vaak gedraaid. Toen nooit gedacht dat dit genre mij zou kunnen aanspreken, maar het was zó duister, zo claustrofobisch, zó beklemmend. Nog steeds een favoriet, maar op wendyvortex na zie ik helemaal niemand anders deze vreugde delen.

Dat vreesde ik op voorhand ook met de emopunkplaat van #7, toen ik naar het gemiddelde van die plaat keek op MuMe. Die vrees is uitgekomen. Ook opvallend dat Woven Hand met 'Blush Music' weinig enthousiasme losmaakt. Dat was destijds al een klein beetje het geval, maar ik heb 'em nog eens teruggeluisterd en ik begrijp ik die lauwe reacties nog steeds niet: weergaloos.

Tot hiphop de Top 15 van de jaarlijsten wist te halen kende ik bijna alle noteringen wel, al was het soms vluchtig, maar in dat genre ben ik duidelijk een beginneling. Nu luisterende naar Cyne en dat bevalt me meer dan prima. En dan moet ik het mij eveneens onbekende Viktor Vaughn nog luisteren.

Ik zie al dat ik er weer een paar vergeten ben (o.a. Rufus W en A Perfect Circle). Leuk jaar was het sws. Met name The Mars Volta maakte een verpletterende indruk.

En Mew blijkbaar alleen op mij. Maar ben ik bitter? Neen.


Wel licht verrast dat Deense prog-indie niet aan MuMe besteed is.

Er zijn toch weer behoorlijk wat albums her en der in de toplijsten van dit jaar gepubliceerd die ik helemaal niet ken.
O.a The Jayhawks en Explosions in the Sky om maar eens wat te noemen. Dat geef ik mezelf toch wel als een opdracht mee voor deze decembermaand om daar eens kennis mee te maken.
Verder heeft de winnaar Hail to the Thief, dit jaar niet echt een grote indruk op me gemaakt.
Wat wel indruk op me heeft gemaakt is zaaf met zijn unieke manier van presenteren!
