Nog enorm bedankt voor het weekje ethiojazz en alle informatie daar omheen, Titmeister.
Ik zag aan jouw presentatie dat mijn voorkeur nóg meer in de neo-ethiojazz ligt dan ik al dacht en dat ik het hardst ga op internationale artiesten die er een eigen sausje overheen smeren, maar ook diverse originals konden mij prima bekoren. Moedig dat je zo'n niche hebt beetgepakt - de onbekendheid was ook te zien aan de bescheiden opkomst - maar ik voel me verrijkt na alle klanken en teksten. Thnx!

Ik heb ook wel nummers waarvan het me verbaasd dat ze de eerste plek hebben gehaald, zoals Dolce Vita. Dacht dat hooguit een top 10 hit was. Zelfde trouwens bij Paul Hardcastle.

Sam Brown's Stop vind ik trouwens best okay, maar kwam niet in de buurt van de nominaties gelukkig, dus ik kan nog veilig over straat

Ja, tijdelijke naamsaanpassing vanwege de golfoorlog. En dan wordt dat net de grootste hit

Ik had 'm al genoemd vóór de tip van pureshores

Het is nu al een leuke editie. Zelf medio 1993 aan de Top 40 begonnen (toen Haddaway - What Is Love op 1 stond) en eind jaren '90 had ik semi-permanent het Hitdossier-boek uit de bibliotheek (waar het overzicht van alle nummer 1 hits uiteraard ook in stond). Na een paar jaar in het nieuwe millennium met steeds meer focus op andere muzikale voorkeuren, maar vooral ook op het albumformat, de Top 40 uit het oog verloren. Als ik nu, decennia later weer eens systematisch door zijn lijst heenloop, valt me op dat er toch ook nog wel een paar MusicMeter-bekenden zijn waarvan ik nooit vermoed had dat het een (Nederlandse) nummer 1-hit geweest was, met De Wilde Boerendochter van Ivan Heylen als glorieus hoogte- danwel dieptepunt.

Globaal zit het voor mij een beetje als volgt verdeeld:
- jaren '60 en '70: er zitten diverse gekende toppers tussen. Ook wel een hoop nummers die me niks zeggen. Ik ga er gemakshalve maar even van uit dat het gros daarvan terecht vergeten is.
- jaren '80: hier vallen favoriete muzikale periode en het daadwerkelijk opleveren van hits daarin toch wel samen. Twilight Zone, Private Investigations en State of Independence direct achter elkaar... ik wou dat ik het actief meegemaakt had.
- jaren '90: het begint nog wel oké... maar ik weet nog dat ik indertijd al zo na 1-2 jaar Top 40 / Mega Top 50 wat kritischer op de lijst werd (niet in de laatste plaats op de nummers 1) en de knipperende ogen vanaf eind 1994 / 1995 zijn er dertig jaar na dato nog niks minder om. Het jaar van Different Class, (What's the Story) Morning Glory, Garbage en Mandylion leverde nummer 1 hits van Irene Moors & de Smurfen, Linda, Roos & Jessica, Gompie, Höllenboer en, vooruit, slechts eentje van de onvermijdelijke Marco Borsato.
- daarna: tot 2005 ben ik nog een klein beetje aangehaakt, daarna is er beduidend meer niet dan wel bekend

Enfin. Ik had een longlist van 40. Volgens opdracht teruggebracht tot 20, daarbij geprobeerd alle decennia een beetje recht te doen, als ik kon kiezen tussen een curiositeit en een wel heel erg geijkte / MuMe-fähige klassieker die eerste te nemen (enkele echte obvious toppers staan er alsnog gewoon in, maar het heeft wel onder meer Go Your Own Way, Take on Me en Jeanny een nominatie gekost), het jeugdsentiment (recent jeugdsentiment mocht ook) niet te schuwen en te accepteren dat ik vast over een paar verplichte nominaties heengelezen heb.
