Nieuw:
- A Dream Of You And Me: Future Islands doet misschien niet veel anders dan bij Seasons, maar wel weer een goeie. Leuk ritme.
- Running: Lang getwijfeld of ik er iets van Eurosong zou laten inkomen. Aram MP3 vond ik op plaat net iets te slap, maar dit is toch echt een goeie R'nB-plaat.
- Sun Kills Moon: Mooie ontdekking, deze Japanse shoegaze. Klinkt heel episch, zou zo in de ontknopingsscene van een film kunnen.
- Fame: Dat de combinatie van de breekbare vocalen van Ry X met electronica werkt, wisten we al van wat hij samen met Frank Wiedemann heeft gedaan. Fame is niet zo straf als Howling van die andere samenwerking, maar zeker niet mis.

Oud, ouder, oudst.

Paul McCartney (1942) hoeft zich niet te schamen voor het experimentele Appreciate, net zo min als de prachtige, haast met ouderwetse schoonheid gemaakte videoclip. Driewerf hulde en ik hoop maar dat hij spoedig weer genezen is van het virus dat hij in Japan heeft opgelopen.

Net als Bruce Springsteen (1949) is hij eigenlijk nooit weggeweest. Het is onvoorstelbaar waar beiden de energie vandaan halen maar Bruce rockt er eveneens weer eens ouderwets op los.

Dan verschijnen er op korte termijn ook albums van Morrissey (1959) en van Chicago o.l.v. Robert Lamm (1944). Tja, Chicago geeft elk album een nummer, dus met 36 weten we inmiddels waar we aan toe zijn. De wilde haren zijn al enige tijd geleden (een jaar of 40) verdwenen, maar af en toe smeult er nog wel eens een klein vuurtje.

Morrissey ligt in zijn songs wat betreft tempo behoorlijk achter op zijn oude maatje Johnny Marr maar zijn gloednieuwe single is er niet minder venijnig om. Hij moet even op gang komen, maar dan heb je ook wat.

Gelukkig hebben we ook nog Beck en de bebaarde Revere, die met sterke werkjes op redelijk jeugdige leeftijd nog een beetje tegenwicht weten te bieden aan de krasse knarren.

Drie nieuwe in de top 10 kan moeilijk slecht zijn. Zeker als het niet ligt aan eventuele het mindere niveau van mijn lijst vorige week, maar aan de nieuwe binnenkomers. Alledrie band waar ik al een tijdje fan van ben.

Nieuw:
- Song For Five & Six: Veel meer vergelijkbaar met ouder materiaal dan The Riverbed en voor mij om die reden ook beter. Duidelijk dat dit, zoals hij zegt, "the loopy one" is van het album.
- Without You My Life Would Be Boring (Shaken-Up Version): Na die geweldige plaat van vorig jaar, wordt deze aangepaste versie van Without You My Life Would Be Boring met als leuke extra een hoofdrol voor het soms tribaal aandoende ritme.
- Brighter Days: Mijn vrijwel favoriete IJslandse band die tevens zowat mijn favoriete feestgroep is. Deze electropop-knaller is er weer boenk op!
- The Ballad For Mr. Steak: Deze tourviolist van ooit ondermeer Regina Spektor en of Montreal heeft een opgewekte popsong uit die het midden houdt tussen Owen Pallett en Mika of zoiets.
- The Blinds And I: Straffe, blijkbaar Nederlandse band die goeie shoegazy postpunk maakt
