Na 5 jaar weer terug op 1, Street Spirit van Radiohead. En het was halverwege eigenlijk wel al duidelijk dat ie zou gaan winnen. Op een gegeven moment was de voorsprong op nummer 2 zelfs bijna 200 punten. Het is lang geleden dat de finale zo duidelijk was en zo weinig spannend. Maar een terechte winnaar natuurlijk. Als beste uit de startladder de finale ingekomen, dus in de reguliere stemrondes ook het hoogste stempercentage van alle nummers gescoord. En daarbij is het nummer ook maar liefst 40x in de top 5 van iemands lijstje terug te vinden, degene die daar het dichtst bij in de buurt komen zijn the Beatles met 34x een top 5 notering.
Een meer dan terechte winnaar dus.....op naar de 2015 editie.

Hoever zijn wij van de wereld (whatever that may be?) als How Soon Is Now? (whenever that may be?) zo hoog scoort hier in de lijst allertijden? Het album haalde ooit toen ik 20 was plek 13 in de albumlijst en deze single haalde niet eens de tipparade. Dat was in de tijd dat de hitparade nog wel iets voorstelde. Nu zegt dat niet alles, maar wel iets. Zijn wij een soort van specialistenclub geworden hier op MM? Gespecialiseerd in bijzondere species, die wij wel kennen, maar anderen niet?

Zegt meer iets over het uitzonderlijke niveau van de rest... de 3/4 nummers ervoor vind ik met Fake Plastic Trees misschien wel het mooiste van Radiohead.

Ik zei het vorige maand al tijdens ronde 8: Street Spirit gaat het doen dit jaar.
