Beste Stones album wat mij betreft, heb hem zelf op plek 6.

Rustig maar vastberaden koerste Bowie met zijn vierde album van randje top 10 naar de eerste plaats. Niet te stoppen maar misschien toch een verrassing? Inmiddels niet natuurlijk, maar ik had het niet voorzien. For What It's Worth.

Bowie doet hier een stap richting Ziggy: hij vervangt Tony Visconti als bassist en completeert zijn Spiders From Mars met Trevor Bolder. De productie wordt waargenomen door Ken Scott ("assisted by the actor" - aka Bowie zelve).

Het album, aanvankelijk opgenomen zonder recorddeal - RCA nam hem na wat opnames beluisterd te hebben voor een 3 albums deal onder zijn hoede - deed voornamelijk iets na het succes van Ziggy Stardust.
De stijl van de muziek en de teksten krijgen de vorm waar Bowie zich wel bij voelt in deze jaren. Oh You Pretty Things is tekstueel zelfs een voorloper van Starman met referenties naar het gedachtegoed van Nietsche.

De stijl van de cover is ingegeven door een foto van Marlene Dietrich die Bowie meenam naar de shoot met fotograaf George Underwood.

En wederom een topplaat in deze top 10. Van de beste 14 volgens men heb ik er 12 in mijn top 20. Je mag me ook hofleverancier noemen (dit jaar dan).

Cohen had ik wel in de top-10 verwacht. Mooi dat Bowie wint. Dan kunnen we in '72 wel weer voor een andere artiest gaan. Alhoewel, geen van de favorieten spreekt me echt aan. EDIT: Het is echt armoe troef qua klassiekers in 1972. Alle veelbestemde albums zijn of niet geweldig of interesseren me niet genoeg voor een luisterbeurt.

Het is een grof schandaal, eerlijk waar.

1972 voor de deur.

Ik meen het jaar dat ik bewust werd van popmuziek.
Kon ook niet anders met een stuk oudere broer en zus.
Uit elke slaapkamer galmde muziek en Pa draaide ook wel eens een plaatje.

Naast de zekerheidjes, ondertussen weer op ontdekkingstocht.
Ben benieuwd.

Ik heb er dan ook flink voor moeten dokken Graf.

Met maar 5 verstandige deelnemers is een fatsoenlijke eindlijst een utopie.
