Ik bedoelde eigenlijk van hetzelfde nivo.
Stranded is ook top.
Favoriete RM album van Eno trouwens.
Dat was het 1e album zonder hem.

The Floyd staat bij mij niet in de top 20. Benieuwd wat het verschil zal zijn met de nummer 1.
For Your Pleasure van RM op nummer 4.
The New York Dolls helaas vergeten. Zou bij mij op nummer 5 terechtgekomen zijn.

En dit resultaat is toch op zijn minst opzienbarend. Kwam voornamelijk tot stand omdat ie erg vaak is genoemd, maar Berlin grossierde ook in hoge ogen. Bleef in de verwoede strijd vanaf dinsdagmiddag steeds aan kop.

Het album is een tragische rockopera over een getroubleerd paar, Jim en Caroline, en richt zich op thema's als druggebruik, prostitutie, depressie, huiselijk geweld en zelfmoord.
In The Kids vertelt Caroline over haar kinderen die haar zijn ontnomen door de overheid; het nummer is voorzien van de geluiden van huilende kinderen om hun moeder. The Waterboys ontleent zijn naam aan een zin in dit nummer. 

Muzikaal verschilt Berlin sterk van het grootste deel van Reed's werk, als gevolg van het gebruik van zware orkestrale arrangementen, hoorns en top sessiemuzikanten. Instrumentaal draagt Reed zelf slechts akoestische gitaar bij.
Het geluid van Berlin is verwant aan de Alice Cooper platen uit die tijd. Geproduceerd door Bob Ezrin, die zelf ook bijdraagt op toetsen en twee sterke gitaristen: Steve Hunter en Dick Wagner.

Net als bij Reed's vorige twee studio albums, stelt Berlin opnieuw verschillende songs op die eerder waren geschreven en opgenomen. De titeltrack verscheen op Reed's solo debuut album, maar is hier vereenvoudigd, van toonhoogte veranderd en opnieuw gearrangeerd voor solo piano. Oh, Jim gebruikt de Velvet Undergroundouttake Oh, Gin. Caroline Says II is een herschrijving van Stephanie Says van VU (hoewel de laatste niet werd vrijgegeven tot 1985). The Velvet Underground registreerde ook een alternatieve demo van Sad Song, die daar een veel mildere tekst had. Man of Good Fortune was ook gespeeld door de Velvets, al in 1966...

Prachtig mooie plaat. Bijna mijn nummer 1 van dit jaar. Gaat door merg en been.

Ook weeral niet op mijn lijstje.
Deze Lou moet ik dringend eens beluisteren, maar betwijfel of hij beter dan "Metal Machine Music" zal zijn.

Geen moeite mee met deze nr.1
Indrukwekkend werkje.
Pas recent ontdekt.
Floyd in de loop der verwachting natuurlijk in de top 3.
De magie is er echter bij mij wat af in de loop der tijd. Wel in de top 20.

Leuk album van Lou, al kan het niet tippen aan z'n Transformer. Wel goed genoeg voor mijn top 10. Dit is mijn volledige top 20:
