Intiem met Donny, weet niet of ik daar op zit te wachten...

Haha het worden zelfs 4 Nederlandse shows, grijp die kans om deze levende legende te zien! Amsterdam, Den Haag, Utrecht of Nijmegen.

Ik zeg: met een volledige MuMedelegatie erheen. Met spandoeken enzo. Utrecht op de zestiende heeft mijn voorkeur!

Goed plan! Australisch vlaggetje erbij en gaan. Ik denk dat ik wel minimaal 2 gigs doe, Donny in deze setting zien zal niet heel lang meer gaan. Volgend jaar zal ie immers uitgroeien tot dé festivalhype.

Ik ga ook zeker, denk wel naar Nijmegen.

Hij stond vorige maand nog in het skatecafé in Amsterdam, helaas kon ik toen niet. Maar de ACU is wel een mooie herkansing.

Echt bizar dat hij nu pas zo goed scoort hier, ik zou zweren dat Santorini in maart/april ook al in de weeklijst stond. Ik was hem al bijna weer vergeten.

Ik ben gewoon een beetje een late bloomer die in de lente te weinig naar andere interessante lijstjes heeft gekeken, my bad. Anders had ik hem er vast al eerder uitgevist. Nu was m'n eerste kennismaking met Donny's muziek direct live in concert op een schattig klein podium op Valkhoffestival.

Je gaat gewoon teveel naar concerten om al onze lijstjes te kunnen bijhouden, lijkt me eerder iets goeds.

Ik lees ook nu met interesse de discussie en heb gelijk een paar nummers (dus voor het eerst) van Donny gehoord.
Ik kom zijn naam niet tegen op de lijsten waar ik zoek naar nieuwe releases.

Ik zie op mume ook geen enkel bericht of stem bij zijn voorgaande 3 albums (vanaf 2011). Dus ik geloof niet, dat je jezelf als laatbloeier kunt beschouwen. Al eerder gezegd, het is ook onmogelijk alles gehoord te hebben in het leven.
Maar dit topic helpt je wel een eind op weg natuurlijk.

Je moet Donny Benét vooral niet zien, horen is voldoende. En dan maakt hij best aardige nummers. Maar tonnetje rond, ranzig, kaal, behaard, het is voor het publiek allemaal niet appetijtelijk, eerder afremmend. Het kan ook zijn dat hij graag z'n aangeklede variant Demis Roussos op ludieke wijze wil imiteren zodat het allemaal als pure humor moet worden gezien. Voor mij is de muziek voldoende.

Underworld en Iggy Pop hebben mij weer opnieuw te pakken, dat moet toch een aardig album zijn, als ik dat zo mag afleiden uit hun singles. Het heeft iets beklemmends maar toch ook wat fraais, de vocalen er bij van Iggy. Het heeft iets tegendraads en dan de aantrekkelijke variant daarvan. Ze kijken niet op de lengte van de nummers maar je verveelt je geen minuut.

Dat Pretty Vcious weer eens de hoogste binnenkomer is mag bij mij geen verrassing heten. Maar het blijft een lijst voor jong en oud: op 29 Ian Gillan & The Javelins. De Deep Purple zanger gaat voor een keer terug naar de band waar hij ooit is begonnen, als ik het goed begrijp. En dan wordt er een album uitgebracht dat er destijds niet meer van kwam.
Aangezien Gillan zich in 1968 bij Deep Purple voegde, is het dus nog van daarvoor. En jawel, Gillans Javelins werd alweer opgedoekt in maart 1964. Dus ja, de leden moeten inmiddels wel dik in de 70 zijn....

Grunge uit NewYork. Een vergeten gitaarsound van 25 jaar her, die wel een heel vitale terugkeer krijgt.
Ik weet wel dat de laatste single [Stick] is, maar dit is mijn fav albumtrack.



Zola Blood (UK) maakt een heel aantrekkelijke organische electro-pop. Inventieve beats en breaks, goede zang en songs die bij herhaling alleen maar meer diepte krijgen. Dit is een samenwerking met een of andere DJ producer.



Jonge SingerSong uit het noorden van Engeland met erg goed gekeurde PopRock. Dit is de 7de spotify single, Niet zo krachtig als zn beste [Play God] maar wel overtuigend. Komt naar Paradiso tijdens IndieStadt met eigen band. Ik ga m checken.

Ik heb serieus zitten nadenken om van 25 naar 40 platen te gaan, zoveel nieuwe per week... ik heb het toch maar op 30 gehouden, ja wel een uitbreiding van 5 dus. Aan de top verandert niet heel veel, ok de nummers 2 en 3 wisselen van plek. De single van Sharaya Summers schiet lekker omhoog en ik heb dus heel veel nieuwen (9).




Nieuw op 8: Laur... eh Jade Bird. Stond gister op Lowlands, een van de weinigen die ik wel interessant had gevonden. Dit nummer is een lekkere rocker en nee, ze heten niet allemaal Laura/Lauren/Lauran
Op 15 ex-Howling Bells zangeres Juanita Stein. Vorig jaar had ze al een prima album en daar komt dit jaar alweer een opvolger van en die belooft net zo goed te worden. Lekker meeslepende singer/songwriter met een duidelijk americana/roots randje.
De familie Crutchfield doet het altijd goed bij mij, staat Katie als Waxahatchee nog net in de lijst, zusje Alison komt haar nummer 7 alweer aflossen met de opvolger op 17. Swearin' is een fijne band die misschien nog wel meer dan de uptempo-Waxahatchee aan de Breeders doet denken.
Sophie Ellis-Bextor komt dit jaar met een bijzonder greatest hits album, uitgevoerd met orkest. Bij zo'n album hoort ook een nieuw nummer natuurlijk, hoewel, nieuw, het is een cover van - let op - het nummer dat gesampled werd door dj Spiller in de eerste Nederlandse top 40 hit waarop Sophie te horen was, Groovejet. Love Is You heet het en is orgineel uit 1976 van Carol Williams.
Ladytron bracht dit jaar na lange tijd hun 1e single uit van hun comeback album en verwezen daarmee soortgenoten als Chvrches meteen naar het tweede plan. De 2e single van het komende album lijkt iete meer een groeiplaatje te zijn.
Pale Waves blijft maar nummers uitbrengen, het schijnt dat het album er toch ook echt aan gaat komen. Het nummer Black vind ik weer beter dan de vorige Eighteen vandaar ook dat die vorige er meteen uit ligt en de nieuwe er in.
She Makes War leerde ik kennen via Tanya Donelly van Belly. Zij zingt mee op een nummer van het vorige album van She Makes War. Dat was reden genoeg om die destijds meteen te bestellen. Binnenkort komt er een nieuw album van haar en de eerste single is weer veelbelovend.
Aurora dropte gister ook een nieuwe single, nadat haar eerste album me toch wat tegenviel na de ep daarvoor is dit nummer wel weer een positieve verrassing. Voorzichtig alvast binnengekomen.
Pohgoh is een beetje een goedmakertje, al 2x vergeten geloof ik. Ik leerde die kennen doordat de zangeres op Facebook een reactie plaatste bij een post van Juliana Hatfield. Vervolgens ben ik gaan zoeken wat voor muziek ze zelf maakte en dat beviel prima. Het album komt binnenkort uit.

- Fabiana Palladino - Shimmer: een mix van Haerts-achtige dreampop met een vleugje r&b, geproduceerd door Jai Paul. De eerste paar keer viel het nummer me niet enorm op, maar afgelopen week is het kwartje hard gevallen.
- Pond: de eerste keer dat ik dit nummer van deze Australische psychrockers hoorde wilde ik hem na 2 minuten eigenlijk wel afvoeren van mijn tiplijst. Foute hardrockvocalen is niet echt mijn ding. Maar het nummer intrigeerde me wel en inmiddels ben ik wel helemaal om. Na 5 minuten ontspoort het op een heerlijke manier. Misschien wat minder toegankelijk dan Tame Impala, waarmee ze bandleden delen, maar zeker zo leuk.
- Soap&Skin: rustig, lang meditatief nummer van deze Oostenrijkse zangeres. Wat wil je ook met zo'n titel.
- Milo Greene: vette remix door Tensnake, liefhebbers weten genoeg.
- Gilligan Moss: minder dan de vorige singles, maar nog steeds een lekkere dansplaat.
