Ik ben gek op jaren tachtig muziek, het is tenslotte het decennium waarin ik opgroeide en interesse kreeg in popmuziek. Het is in tegenstelling tot de 60's en 70's ook een decennium waarin ik meer interesse heb in singles dan albums. Veel albums van mijn favoriete artiesten van nu waren in die tijd niet om aan te horen terwijl veel artiesten die ik destijds leuk vond en nog regelmatig draai toch vooral van enkele hits erg leuk waren. Zo vind ik nog steeds Level 42 en de pet Shop boys geweldig maar om nou te zeggen dat ik een heel album volhoud...

385 albums uit de 80s bestemd, weer 60 meer dan 2 jaar terug. Wel vooral door het album top 10 per jaar topic waar we onlangs de jaren '80 hebben afgerond. Enige serieuze 'nieuwkomer' is Suzanne Vega. Ik denk dat ik het album misschien al wel 15 jaar ken, maar heb het in aanloop naar een optreden van haar begin dit jaar regelmatig gedraaid en ben het zo nog een stukje meer gaan waarderen.

Ik was vergeten dat The Pogues natuurlijk hun beste albums in de jaren tachtig uitbrachten. Een aangepaste lijst...

Totaal anders dan de jaren 70, maar wel een heerlijk bont en gevarieerd decennium, waar door veel mensen iets ouder dan ik vaak wat op neer gekeken wordt ("teveel synthesizer" en zo..).
Voor mij het decennium van de laatste supersterren, indrukwekkende concerten, creatieve videoclips, al "wat oudere artiesten" die nog steeds mee mochten doen in contrast met nu, en gevarieerde geluiden van Prince's mix van funk, pop en rock, The Cure's rare mix van gothic rock met lekkere basloopjes, uniek klinkende bands als Talk Talk en Depeche mode, sterke muziekfilms als Ratlle and Hum, Bring on the Night en Sign o the Times (de beste concertfilm ooi), grote projecten als Gaceland en Live Aid, mooie unieke stemmen als Tina, Sade, Michael McDonald, Tracy Chapman, Grace Jones, Chaka Kahn en Luther Vandross, disco soul, en de opkomst van de hiphop met zeer uiteenlopende sound van de jazzy Jungle Brothers tot aan de snoeiharde Public Enemy.
De jaren 80 waren geweldig!.

De eerste helft van de jaren 90 waren ook nog vol creativiteit en vernieuwing. Rond 95 was imo wel een soort breuklijn. Als het nu gaat om hiphop (drastisch veranderend), R&B (neo soul tot dan en daarna patserige r&b), triphop (eerste helft jaren 90) of de grunge of rock. Het leukste was grotendeels die eerste helft. Of ik werd op m'n 22e al oud.

Ik zou ook niet anders durven te beweren Minneapolis, ze zijn zeker geweldig. Alleen niet zo voor mij. Verder helemaal top dat mensen er veel plezier uit kunnen halen .

p.s. ik zie de jaren 70 als de gouden periode. Nostalgie speelt ook mee in de jaren 80.

Op papier zouden mijn nostalgische gevoelens uit eind jaren 90 begin 00's moeten komen, maar ik geloof niet dat daar mijn favoriete muziek gaat zitten Minneapolis .

Ik heb de pech dat zowel de punk, als de hiphop, als de new wave me grotendeels nog niet weet te raken in een decennium dat grotendeels hierom draait. Langzaam bij beetje begin ik meer pareltjes te ontdekken, maar het blijft een beetje sprokkelen in dit tijdperk. Hierna begon het daarentegen echt mooi te worden!

Weet niet of jullie het herkennen overigens, maar nooit heb ik zin om zoveel muziek tegelijkertijd te luisteren als wanneer ik door de lijstjes hier scroll haha

Heel straf dat je Stop Making Sense niet noemt. Voor mij is dat de beste concertfilm ooit, maar SOTT komt er wel vlak na/achter. Bring on the Night nog nooit van gehoord, is die de moeite?

Ik beweerde niet compleet te zijn.
Stop making sense had er zeker bij kunnen staan want die vind ik ook te gek. Niet zo sterks als Sign O The Times, maar toch.
En ja, ik vind Sting's Bring on the night reportage een aanrader. Het toont met name de repetities (maar ook wat concertbeelden) van zijn eerste solo werk in een kasteel iets buiten Parijs met een paar goede jazz muzikanten. Overigens is één van de achtergrondzangeressen, die je ook nog kunt zien op het 15 jaar latere All This time, de verbindende factor tussen Sting en Talking Heads, al twijfel ik nu wel of zij één van die vrolijk dansende dames in Stop Making Sense is. Moet ik even induiken.
