En graag extra aandacht hiervoor:

De jaren tachtig blijven voor mij een minder decennium. Waarom blijkt wel uit de relatieve eenzijdigheid van deze lijst: dit waren voor mij gouden tijden voor grimmig, veelal aan punk of noiserock gerelateerd gitaarspul, maar daarbuiten valt voor mij tegen hoeveel er te beleven is. Hiphop moest nog op stoom komen, net als de metalsoorten waar ik van hou. De hoogtijdagen van jazz waren voorbij en ook folkmuziek leek even in een dip te zitten. Dit is ook het decennium waaruit relatief veel muziek mij gedateerd aandoet, met name door het gebruik van synthesizers die nog wat ontwikkeling behoefden. Gelukkig is er nog Tom Waits, die wars van genretrends zijn eigen pad koos.

Voor mij het decennium waar mijn muzikale ontdekkingsreis begon (samen met natuurlijk de muziek uit mijn eigen jeugd). Iedereen die zegt dat dit een minder decennium is, vind ik duf: het begin van de hiphop zoals we die nu kennen, het ontstaan van allerlei extreme genres en experimentele stromingen, natuurlijk een hele stapel wave-klassiekers en een heel goed decennium voor de popmuziek. Mijn lijstje is een beetje uit de hand gelopen maar wilde al deze albums een plekje geven. Sorry.

Haha, ja de nineties zijn ook waanzinnig (wie weet wordt die lijst nog wel langer haha), maar de jaren tachtig zie ik toch wel een beetje als een eerste liefde (new wave en synthpop) en ik heb enorm veel interesse in de oorsprong van (mijn favoriete) genres (hiphop en extreme metal maar ook noise/power electronics, drone, neofolk/industrial en minimalisme) en hoe die zich in de loop der jaren ontwikkeld hebben. Ik snap zeker wel het 'nog op stoom moeten komen', maar voor mij zijn er toch al wel een heel pak uitstekende klassiekers te vinden in de eighties.

Ik dacht ook lang dat de 80s het minst interessante decennium waren, tot ik dieper in allerlei niet-Engelstalige muziek ging duiken. In Japan, Rusland, Brazilië, Portugal en vele andere landen bleek het een stuk makkelijker om voor dit decennium aan mijn trekken te komen.

Als ik dan 30 Engelstalige platen in jouw lijst zie staan niels94, denk ik dat er ook voor jou nog een hoop moois te vinden is. : )

Daarentegen heb ik nog behoorlijk veel punk uit deze periode om te ontdekken.
