Oke, dan pas ik me daar ook aan aan. Bovenstaande lijstje was dan mijn laatste van 1984.
Volgende week ook mijn top 100 van 1984, en over twee weken mijn eerste lijstje voor 1985.

De laatste week van het jaar overslaan vind ik een ware gruwel, maar ik ben dan ook een beetje bizar op dat vlak

De mooiste Top 40 was die natuurlijk van

31-12-1977

De eerste carnavalsplaten van 1978 schalden al door de ether en de nog alleen zingende Ome Joop reageerde legendarisch op Meneer De Groot toen deze opmerkte "Eh, Ome Joop" "Wat is er joh?" "De plaat is afgelopen. De muzikanten zijn al naar huis" "Ik ga door tot het gaatje!!"

Rattlesnakes alweer 4 weken op 1; hoe lang nog?

Drie kerstplaten dit jaar (The power of love uiteraard niet meegerekend); Band Aid op 5, Paul McCartney op 7 en Eeuwige Kerst op 16. Wat valt hieraan op? Dat Last Christmas van Wham! het niet gehaald heeft.

Weinig binnenkomers in deze releaseluwe periode. Op 28 The Kane Gang met een strijdbaar Respect yourself. Goed gedaan, maar originaliteit is ver te zoeken.

Op 29 een typisch VARA-bandje dat alleen in de Verrukkelijke 15 scoorde: Grin met You'll need a gun (de tekst gaat verder: to blow my mind. But you hit me with a feather all of the time). Helaas geen Youtube clip dus geen herbeleving.

Op 33 een vrolijk new wave liedje van The dB's uit de VS, ook Verrukkelijke 15. Vanaf dat de single uit kwam, stoorde het mij dat het refrein wel erg zwaar leunde op dat van The show must go on van Three Dog Night ('someone should tell you').

Op 38 komt Prince zeer bescheiden binnen met I would die 4 U (bij mijn weten was dit de eerste titel die tekens bevatte waar gewoonlijk woorden gebruikt worden). Na het uiteindelijk irritante Purple rain kwam Prince niet meer zo vanzelfsprekend in mijn top 40, en ook deze nieuwe is weer op het randje van verdraagbaar, zo overdreven aanstellerig gezongen. Gelukkig wel wat meer pit dan Purple rain...

Hierbij mijn top 100 van 1984. Opnieuw met de aantekening dat songs die eind 1983 al binnenkwamen, hier geheel ontbreken, en songs die eind 1984 binnenkwamen, ook de punten die in 1985 behaald worden, al meekrijgen. De nummer 1 van de lijst illustreert wat ik bedoel.

Een behoorlijk aantal onvergetelijke nummers en natuurlijk ook wegwerphits (voornamelijk schlagers en in mindere mate formulematige dance/disco) zoals de vorige jaren. Prince was de grootste hitleverancier in 1984 en lijkt de fakkel van Michael Jackson overgenomen te hebben. De new wave is meer naar de mainstream verschoven (The Cure, Stranglers), synthipop, dance en Nederpop deden het in 1984 ook nog goed. Een opmerkelijke verschijning was Frankie Goes To Hollywood die bewees dat synthipop ook brutaal kon klinken en de zeer excentrieke Cyndi Lauper.

En dit was dan laatste weeklijst van dit jaar en zoals u ziet een vrij rustig weekje met maar 1 nieuwe binnenkomer The Sound met One Thousand Reasons.

Frankie Goes To Hollywood toont zich een zeer waardige nummer 1 met over de honderd punten, The Smiths en The Waterboys stijgen ook goed door in hun 2e week en wachten we met z'n allen op wat het jaar 1985 allemaal gaat brengen, 1985 zal o.a. het jaar zijn waar Nederland in de ban zal geraken van Bruce Springsteen

Zo, weg met die zooi
Het is nu weer lang genoeg Kerst geweest met ook teveel Kersthits.

Dan maar even wat mindere binnenkomers. Hoewel sommige dan toch wel weer fout eighties zijn. Wat te denken van Stewart's vertolking van "All right now". Hij zal er zelf ongetwijfeld ook spijt van hebben. Maar goed hij is dan nog een artiest waar van kan worden gezegd dat hij betere tijden heeft gekend en ook zeker nog betere tegemoet kan gaan zien. Met een beetje geduld.

Yah mo be there werd een hele grote hit maar bewijst zich wat mij betreft ook nergens.
Misschien dat ik met Rock and roll eindelijk eens eer ga bewijzen aan een rustige Status Quo.

Eigenlijk ben ik het meest gevallen voor Rainforest van Paul Hardcastle. De man die later dit jaar alles en iedereen op zijn kop gaat zetten met '19'. Zover zijn we nog niet maar het hier onbekend gebleven Rainforest vind ik ook best goed.

Wat betreft Yah Mo B There dat zijn 2 geweldige stemmen tezamen, productioneel (Quincy Jones) is het ook nog eens dik in orde en luistert dit nummer ook nog steeds zeer prettig weg en je snapt het dus al ik ben het niet helemaal met je eens + dit de nummer 28 is in mijn Top 100 van het afgelopen jaar die straks geplaatst gaat worden.

Ja, Rock 'n Roll is uitgebracht als track van de compilatie 12 gold bars volume 2 (1984).

Yah Mo B There heb ik pas nu, omdat het recent in de Tipparade van de Top 40 staat.
Heel erg dol ben ik er niet op, zonder je te willen beledigen
Maar het is natuurlijk nogal gladjes van aard en staat vol met de mindere eigenschappen van de eighties.

Nou beste mensen, dit is hem dan geworden alle 52 weeklijsten samengevat in deze Top 100, waarbij The Blue Nile met Tinseltown In The Rain als glorieuze winnaar uit de bus is gekomen, het verschil met de nummer 2 China Crisis was overigens 4 punten die heel lang aan kop gingen met Wishful Thinking.

De populariteit van The Smiths en Lloyd Cole And The Commotions kent geen grenzen in deze jaarlijst, waarbij o.a. ook de Simple Minds, Alphaville en Bronski Beat met 3 singles goed boeren in deze lijst.

Het product uit eigen land bleef wat achter met slechts 3 noteringen, Secret Sounds met State Of Sound is dan nog de hoogste notering op nummer 44, misschien dat in 1985 het Nederlands product er beter vanaf komt?
